First grow, made a ton of errors already. Started these in a DWC system and decided i didnt like it so transplanted to coco. Obviously this set us back a bit, the plants are smaller than they would have been. This only applies to half of the plants, the morning glory and afghan hash were started in coco. IVe learned about setting EC levels and measuring EC in runoff water as well as how these affect salt levels in the substrate. So much stuff to learn, they seem to be much happier since i dropped the EC and started watering once a day. Have ordered another 600w LED light, once that arrives i will space these plants out some. I also have a couple of younger seedlings starting at the moment which might go in the tent or i might make space buckets for them, we will see.
1st September - Growth in the last week has been great. Today the ViparSpectra 600w led light arrived so i now have 2 600w lights in thee tent. I took the 5 weakest plants out and put them outside, letting these girls have the tent to themselves so they can spread out a bit. We now have one of each of the plants listed above except blue gelato 41 of which there are 2.
3rd September - Went one day without watering and these girls were very very thirsty. Dailiy watering is a requirement for sure, i think they will soon want twice daily, perhaps if they move up to 5 gallon pots. I saw the rootball reached the bottom of these pots so there could be a gain from transplanting now. Stems are thickening up in preparation for some olympic power lifting. Inspected each plant individually while watering, topped one or two, noticed some really good growths coming up with potential bud sites on some. Need more of this type of vigorous growth before i can flip these into flower.
Growth is crazy. Topped all and gave a haircut. Bought a 1000w mars hydro light to go in alongside the viparspectra, have 1600w in there now. |Girls just look super happy although could do with a tent double the size. Adding liquid seaweed to nutrient mix.
First grow, lots of errors, some big and some small. 8 plants is too much for this size tent. I didnt train them early on so that means 2 plants have to go outside so the largest plant (a morning glory) and an afghan hash plant have joined the others outside. I also had no idea how tall these plants might grow and this tent just doesnt have enough height so i have ordered one that is the same footprint but 2 meters tall.
Plants have stretched a lot so have had to get a taller tent. Picture of my gf by the tent for comparison, no she isnt a midget, it's 2 metre tall tent.
All plants starting to flower, Only have 5 plants left in the tent after starting with 16 and for various reasons losing or giving up on the others.
2 x Blue Gelato 41
1 x 8 ball Kush
1 x Peyote cookies
1 x Alaskan Purple freebie seed
I see little white afros popping up everywhere. All plants seem to have got the message, the purple is way behind though and is only starting to flower now. Height really is an issue after the stretch and i had to put in some netting to have something to push the colas underneath to stop them touching the lights. Might need to do away with the drainage boxes underneath to get some height back. If i can get a tray exactly the same size as the floor space i should be ok.
So some stuff happened and i had to leave the country which meant cutting down these lovely plants way way early. I started with 16 plants and finished with 2 (as they got bigger i kept having to discard to make space). Of all of them the BG41 was the most mature, i got a decent amount of bud which has been left curing in a jar until i come back in a few months to see what it is like. Kind of sad and annoying but this was a hobby and growing these plants and watching them flourish kept me sane for more than 2 months while i was housebound due to an injury. Now that i am in my new location i am starting my second grow and will hopefully use what i learned first time round to produce some good results. Gave the jar a goodbye sniff before i went to the airport, it was pungent! asked my dad (who hates weed and would never partake) to open the jar and give me an odor report, his words were 'pine trees and lemon'... nice :-)
@Jwjoh, ive got high hopes for the 8BK, the genetics look good and healthy. I just use the bottle tops as a cheap way to try and get more humidity to the younger plants that still want it higher than the others. I have taken that young alaskan purple out and put it in a new grow space with a bunch of other young plants and seedlings. They should be in a propogator really but i dont have one big enough.
