Starting week 5! I feel like things are getting back on track. Still seeing signs of nutrient deficiencies but i'm hoping that switching to flowering nutes will give these girls what they've been asking for. Some changes for this week: - removed one of two 6400K SunBlaster LED's. (The 2nd one will come out in a few days as I increase the intensity of my main light). - added two 2700K Sunblaster T5HO lights, one at either end of the tent for supplementary lighting. As a reminder, I'm experimenting with 3 different growing/training methods with these autos: - Plant #1: LST, defoliation - Plant #2: topped, minor LST, defoliation - Plant #3: natural, only some minor "leaf tucking" to help expose branching and bud sites. Day 29: - watered with 5.5ml/gal Remo Nutrients flowering combo. - water pH'd to 6.3 Day 30: - no water - cooler outdoor temps causing tent temps between 64-73F. Adjusted mix of intake sources to limit some of the outdoor air intake. - raised Elite 360 LED fixture to 26" above canopy, increased intensity to 55% - raised Sunblaster 6500K LED to 26" above canopy. Will be removed by end of week. Day 31: - no water - pots are dry but not quite light enough. - the untrained, natural growing #3 plant seems to have been the thirstiest since her pot is lightest. Day 32: - watered with dechlorinated tap water, pH adjusted to 6.3/6.4 - continued LST on plants #1 & #2. - did some minor defoliation of lower branches on plants #1 & #2. - turned on small heater in room - tent temp: 70-78F Day 33: - no water - room heater set to turn on during lights off period (4 hrs) and twice during lights on period (for 4hrs ea) to help keep temperature swing within 67-77F - turned off 6500K Sunblaster LED - moved 2700K T5HO's up to approx 8-10" above canopy, at ends of tent. - LST on main stem of plant #1 Day 34: - watered with 6ml/gal (approx 75% recommended amount) Remo Nutrients: Micro, Bloom, Astroflower, Nature's Candy, VeloKelp. - added 8ml/gal (100% recommended amount) of Remo Nutrients' MagNifiCal. - water pH'd to 6.2/6.3 - defoliation on all 3 plants - Temp: 68-76F - RH: 59-65% Day 35: - plant #1 showing progressing mag def - Temp: 72-81F - RH: 58-64%

Grow Questions

Been struggling with leaf issues for weeks. Initially thought lockout due to N toxicity. Plants improved after flush in Week 7 but then promptly started worsening a few days ago. Is this a continuation of a lockout issue? Would you feed? Flush? Advice is welcome! 🙏

Hello VanBrando, i think there are alot of thing you could have done different but thats the past. Lets talk about the future. How i see it you cant do alot to bounce them back up at this stage, so my only advice is to flush them a few days until all the leaves almost are dead or yellow and brown. After that you just cut them, dry them and cure them and hope for the best of it. I do also wanne give you some extra tips on your next grow. Maybe you can train your plants next time a little bit more and train them till the end of harvest. I would open them up much more so theres more light penetrating more buds and also better airflow throug your canapy. I'd also recommend that you defoliate and remove the lower growth that cant or almost has light to improve the buds that are under the light. Hope it was an helpfull answer, i wish u much luck brother. Keep on growing, Peace 😎

To me your girls look thirsty....... and its possible that they have slatbuiltups so go with aflush to clear that.. greetings and happy growing
VanCplGrows
VanCplGrowscommented5 years ago
@Mrs_Larimar, Thanks, i'll try that. My last 2 feedings were at 600ppm. I tested my runoff during my last plain-water watering and it was 600ppm, which i thought was odd... Same out as what's going in? The last time i flushed they seemed to improve. I appreciate your input, Cheers!

Added some pics to the week, I see! 😁 Haha. Growdiaries allows nipples (check out the "Naked Buds" contest they ran, it's awesome), so if you want, it could save you some time photoshopping. 😆 Anyways, still glad to see the experiment is going well, good luck!

VanCplGrowscommented5 years ago
@MovingOn, Damn, I've been worried they might get flagged but ya, i checked out that contest and looks like it's fine. Good news 'cause i felt like the Photoshoped pasties were taking away from the photos. Maybe i'll swap 'em out for the unedited versions. ;)

After the 48hrs of darkness, the plants looked a bit more frosty but plants #1 and #3 definitely could've used another week. Plant #1 is very spindly, with the smallest buds of the 3 plants.

@VanCplGrows, Thank you! My first grow was eaten by my dog. So this will be my second shot at my first grow. I’m sure I’ll be making many more errors than you.

@Bigpoppachubbs, thanks! We made a bunch of errors with that grow but the strain was great and had a ton of potential. I'm sure you'll love it, best of luck!

@VanCplGrows, yeah you can see that! That is the main thing having fun and watching them change is mesmerising for sure! Also got some LSD auto on the go myself, encountered a few issues aswell.. feel free to check out my diary, week 8 coming soon with updates of a whole new issue haha

@Teddy, Thanks man. Those plants had a ton of potential, that's for sure! We're having fun with the grow though and learning a lot. 👍

Too much water, maybe? I only do about a third or less of that per 24 hrs, or even half of that (a sixth of your volume). With around 7tsp of nutrients per gallon, that is a lot of nutrients - could too much nutrients per every 24hrs cause a lockout? (I'm not an expert yet)
MovingOn
MovingOncommented5 years ago
@VanCplGrows, you can try to post a "Grow Question". Maybe somebody will chime in with the answer. I know that when I had brown spots like that, I added CaMg+ (a calcium magnesium supplement), and my spots stopped multiplying. I read that calmag deficiencies are common in LED gardens. *Edit: oh wait, I see that you are already using a calmag supplement. Hmm, I guess I just don't know. 😅
VanCplGrows
VanCplGrowscommented5 years ago
@MovingOn, I normally water every 48-72hrs but it really just depends on the plants. I wait until the pots are very light before i water but i definitely won't be using that "Black Gold Container Mix" any more. It has a tendency to hold water too well and the pot dries out too unevenly, with the outside few inches around the pot becoming bone dry while the core is still moist. Definitely won't be using that soil in future grows. I really feel like most of my issues are due to a lockout but ya, i'm still too inexperienced to know exactly what the problems are... a lot of trial and error going on right now! LOL

Interesting experiment you have going there. I'll be interested to see the result.
VanCplGrows
VanCplGrowscommented5 years ago
@MovingOn, So far, despite a few issues that appear to be affecting all 3 plants equally, the natural growing plant with no training does seem to be larger and more robust than the othets. I'm curious myself, to see how they turn out (assuming i get my nutirents back on track!).

I am a Virgin - Grower that is. 😁 I feel that your plants may have been light damaged from what I researched. https://www.growweedeasy.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/cannabis-led-light-burn-brown-spots-leaves.jpg I would love to know though. You have very informative diaries please keep it up. I enjoy looking at the ladies too. 😎

@VanCplGrows, do you know how to ask "Grow Questions"? Someone who knows what is happening could probably reply to it, since when you post Grow Questions, they post up on the site separate from the regular feed.

What did your end smoke wind up being like? I'm growing LSD fem right now (1st grow) and I'm planning on growing LSD auto next time, but I haven't found much about how strong it is compared to the standard LSD fem. Thanks
VanCplGrows
VanCplGrowscommented5 years ago
@flatblack, Well, we turned our whole harvest into kief hash so I can't comment much on the quality of the buds but it did make some very nice hash! I wouldn't say it's super strong... But it's got a good punch to it.
