Oct 19-25 It is difficult to look at a picture and gauge size of a plant, to give perspective for future reference, many of the fan leaves are larger than my head. Some of them are 14"x 14" and most have 11 leaves per fan. I will do some mild defoliating over the coming weeks but plan to keep it as minimal as possible. Oct 19, I changed the photoperiod today even though I wanted to hold out a week. All the girls are healthy and the growth has been amazing and I am confident they will continue that pattern for a few weeks. I have also raised the lights to avoid burning after spreading out all that foliage. I loaded the coco with my transition feed and adjusted the timers as well, and will followup tomorrow by pushing the trellis down a tad more and further spreading them out to fill the space. Oct 23, More bending and weaving through the trellis, waiting for pistils to show. Oct 25, First sign of pistils, a few are beginning to show maturity though it requires a very close inspection. Each day I have been doing some select defoliation and cleaning up the bottoms little by little. I know that a certain degree of stress is a good thing and makes for a stronger healthier plant which is a good thing. I have this idea that instead of stressing the plant in one major defoliating session, I can spread that stress over a week long period and ideally achieve the same desired result without the stunted growth that comes with a shock effect. I believe that bending and tucking and removing select secondary and tertiary branches over a period reduces the impact on the plants vitality whilst still causing enough stress to jumpstart the plants natural defences. Similar to sun exposure on skin, if you expose your skin each day to a nominal amount, your body responds by increasing melanin levels and the result is tanned skin with minimal tissue damage as opposed to a single long exposure causing sunburn and tissue damage, you still get the tan either way....
