Sourced my seeds from the seedcellar in Jackson, Michigan. Soaked in pH 5.5 H2O for 24 hours. Transferred over to Grodan 1.5” starter cubes. I will water cubes as needed until seedlings are strong enough to pot up.

Weather temps are falling with the seasonal change. Adjusting environment to compensate. Ixnayed the ViparSpectra and brought in the SpectrumKing. Tried giving a slight dose of nutrients (EC=0100)(starting EC of H2O=0040ish))but growth stunted and real leafs started to twist. Watering each grodan cube betweet 10-15 ml of H2O/day. 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 in the evening.

**Water rate listed above = Reservoir size, nothing else. After a week of stunted growth I decided to quit hand watering and moved them over to my flood tray. I neglected them to the point that one rockwool cube completely dried out. Because my RO water was s EC 0040ish I have just started to foliar feed with epsom salt at the rate of 1/4 teaspoon per 1000 ml H2O. Being frugal, I tried growing at a cooler range. 68-70F. Even though I kept my VPD (vapor pressure deficit) correct (1.0) my growth was still stunted. At 75F I have seen improvements in growth. Ideally 80F would be my target but I’m trying to do it as efficiently/cheap as possible. So no supplemental heat other than from the Two LED Spectrum King CC100’s.

Being new to growing,I still haven’t figured out the proper EC level for my ebb and flow system. During my last grow I tried to minimize my nutrient use and ended up being lucky in my harvest. This time I started off with low EC (6-700) ish, which didn’t go well for me. I had slow growth and even killed off one of my seedlings. I am now running at about 85% of the recommended 2000 EC. Since I have upped my nutrient level, my ladies have perked up and started growing again. Due to killing one of my seedlings, I germinated another and once again have three that I will harvest this time around.

Pay no attention to my nutrient doses for this week. I was climbing my way up to the recommended EC of 2000 which is suggested by Dutch Pro for week 2 of Veg.

I started off the week by running my EC up to DutchPro’s recommendations. Real quick I realized that if I am going to change my reservoir every 10-14 days, that I will never be able to afford this brand of nutrients. I ran this strength for 3 days with no more growth than the previous week. So I removed around 25% of my nutrient solution and replaced it with RO water. This diluted it down to 1600ish. Since then I have been dropping it down about 50 EC per day. Seems like 1400-1450 is a comfortable range for my set up. I also started adding some additional CaMg this week that has helped my leaves darken up from the lime green that they have been since the beginning.

I played with flood cycle a bit this week. I let my plants go unwatered until they started to wilt. The day previous I had done some slight super cropping so the wilt happened real quick. It was pretty neat to watch. It took roughly 8 hours under my conditions for them to wilt so I set my timer to half of that in between flood cycles. For me, 10 minute cycles seem to be working best. I also played with my lights and nutrient levels. I believe I am going into next week better than I went into last week. I did a nutes swap last evening and will be flipping the switch to 12/12 today. Now to see how much this NLB is going to stretch

I started my flower week with a 1/2 strength veg mix, then 4 days later, I started adding the bloom nutes in. I ran high going up to 1130 EC. I am currently backing that down to find my ideal feed EC. I know I am too high now because my pH started dropping. I am currently at 991 EC and my pH is now stable. Hopefully it raises overnight and I can call this it. If it continues to drop, I will need to lower my nutes. Once I have my ideal EC, i will then drain my reservoir and give a full strength bloom mix at a slightly lower number than the EC I am shooting for. Played with light height and watering schedules a bit but nothing solid as far as moving forward. I am also going to start and run my environment at 80 degrees F due to recommendations since I’m running LED’s. P.S. remember to keep your instruments calibrated

If plants heal while the lights are out, is it better to prune/leaf clear right before lights out? Right as lights come on? Or mid day?

Personaly you will see alot of different answers to this hot topic question as many growers will train there plants in varying ways ... I haven't done heavy defoliation before lights out I'm usually doing it a few hours after lights are on and then it's alright to start and then maby I'll come back tomorrow and finish up so as to not stress the girls to much ...I would assume you could do both ways yet once you do it and lights are on those leaves start peeking right up and reaching for the light... They want that light after to draw energy and recover.. As long as they are healthy and doing good light pruning will help with air flow, light penetration , and humidity or mold problems it a very valuable tool to have at your side ... I would let those girls go another week and then pick ones that really take away from bud producing sites..cheers

I believe I found a EC that my plants ate willing to work with. I kept trying to get them to eat more but they just wouldn’t. I had to change my thoughts and listen to what they were telling me. Now they are a bit happier. Automation controls come in next week so I will be screwing around with that and not so much my plants. The pic with the colors on it shows the location of the Northern Lights Blue in the bottom left corner of the pic or the area scribbled blue.

since my nutrient solution is now automated I am unsure what quantities are getting added. The software really doesn’t show super small dosage amounts. I have decided to stray away from so much CaliMagic. I was doing 3-4 ml per gallon. I quit CaMg completely but then I started to yellow. Now I am doing 1-2 ml per gallon. EC was 1000 ish. Now I’m more around 550-600.

I am currently growing this strain again. I know I didn’t do it justice the first time as much of its life cycle, I was over feeding them. This time I have the feed on schedule and she is rapidly exceeding my expectations.
