CRiSPrGrow Well i wanted to try some smart proteins on some mushrooms the idea being that it shouldnt kill the mycelium ... if it's nutrients or something else like a chelation agent we would expect it to kill the mycelium. But i didnt have time to make cakes and wait 5-6 weeks for them to be colonized etc, so i just bought a cake from @Zami_official here on GD. haha when it came i wrote to them immediately all like "does this look normal to you" so they were like yeah. Ok then i started the experiment, never really done this before so i just followed the instructions that came with the cake... and you'll see this turned out to be a mistake. In the meantime i kinda went full on microscopy, got a microscope and some inks and stains for some awesome pics down the line. The LC came i thought to myself let's try make some cakes anyway but since i expect to mess up i got some liquid culture vials to allow mistakes to be made. one of them came contaminated but i didnt know that at the time. followed the instructions but didnt really use a sterile environment. What did work, worked. As you can see the cake's mycelium was mostly fluffy (tomentose) not geometric (rhizomorphic) .

CRiSPrGrow So for the second week i still had the cake in a very bright spot but with indirect light through the shutters, had a few coldish nights but nothing major, still no progress on the cake and at this point i'm scratching my head so i start reading up on the mushrooms in a better way. Turn out , much like plants and thank you to @growdocdc on here for some eye opening conversations , you gotta think where these space flowers come from, in this case p.cubensis really like tropical climates for example hawaii which is where the mcKenaii from ... so at this point i started misting a lot more like 4 times a day or more if I could to keep the humidity up. by the end of the week i started seeing hyphal knots so that was good. didnt get all the microscopy stuff in there in time but i'll try to make a few slides of these.

CRiSPrGrow So I kept these in the bright room most of the week hyphal knots went from hyphal to a fruit and I have no idea when lol happens quick ... Started spraying up to 6 times a day seems that that's good for the mushroom , started fanning as well . Thanks for dropping in !

CRiSPrGrow Fun week, so i harvested the first shroom , randomly it was ready before the others, so this is when i realized that the "McKennaii" strain is most likely a Penis Envy strain, this PE strain seems to be chosen for it's speed and density of flush as well as it's pretty much uniform fruiting bodies. This whole week i was misting up to 6 times a day, had some doubts if I have gone over the RH limit for fruiting, i think i did as you can see from the fuzzy bodies and bases. cut back on misting last day of the week. dried the first fruit harvest on that mat then when about half it's weight was through i added it to a dessicant shoebox, it's 1.3g now, getting jarred and hopefully will be able to make some slides with it. Later on in the week i thought three mushies were ready, i probably took the little one too early. Blue flesh of the gods ! Delish ! 🚀

Bulbi's Own Smart Protein

CRiSPrGrow Fun week , decided to end the flush , got some shrooms, tried to harvest spores, failed. accidently added way to much smart proteins to these, now the mycelium is stained brown, looks really angry/healthy but it's like beige-ish now.... the cake smells rank, probably i forgot the base of one or two shrooms or something now they smell... still though i thought i fucked it up but i'm seeing loads of hyphal knots coming already so i'm guessing i'll be seeing pins soon. Changed up a few things : got a heat mat from zamnesia for 12 bucks, i was gonna go chinese for 6.50 but a buddy on here told me he almost set his house on fire with one of the chinese ones lol. I shouldve got that mat ages ago, plus you can use it for your seedlings and etc... why i didnt start with this i cannot tell you. keeping the temperature nice and constant is really helping as far as i can tell. As it is i'm spraying as often as i can usually 4 times a day. Finally put the liquid culture in the fridge , it's absolutely ready even seeing a few black pin heads in it great seeing how you can take one drop from the sporemate and triple your culture basically effortlessly... one of the LC vials didnt work , still so i did get a refund i'm used for a pill machine, again it was randomly cheaper on zamnesia than amazon go figure.... I'll be finally getting around to making the microscope slides for this, i'm really looking forward to seeing the hyphal knots especially... advice on how to do this is very welcome ! I also made some pf cakes and innoculated them with the mundo mcKennaii strain, the point is trying to figure out how the smart protein works with this but also to compare spores and see if these strains are identical or not 🚀

CRiSPrGrow So after my first flush i got those heat mats, didnt take long in the light for my cake to get contam, took a picture i think i lost it, cut the contam out didnt sterilise shit, few days later it got worse i threw the kit cake away oh well 17.9 dried plus whatever i had fresh, meaning i have 56 0.3s i havent tried it yet. meanwhile the small cakes with the liquid culture are just going basically a bit slow perhaps but some got more liquid than others i'm guessing that's why. I'll check these in three weeks and re-evaluate if they're ready to flower for a first flush. McKennaii less agressive than some of the more sporeful varieties and maybe that's okay, the rhizomorphic growth is encouraging, i was scared my cakes would fall apart maybe the mycelium will be able to hold them together. 🚀

CRiSPrGrow So i thought the cakes would be 100% ready by now, i'm not sure but i think maybe some or all of them still needs a few weeks maybe, one or two of them look ready to go even though the top part is not completely taken by the myco ... any thoughts on this ? would love to start them soon but i'll do what needs to be done ... let's see what happens, theoretically I can probably trigger and birth the less taken ones and start spraying and praying? let me know ! 🚀

CRiSPrGrow so i had totally forgot about these guys in my closet for like 2 and a half months... uhmm... i think they're ready to be fruited, so let's go and fruit some penis envy and make it fat . I'm actually really looking forward to it, it goes so fast, so i'm putting them out tomorrow, i wouldnt be surprised if i get pins by the end of the week, after that it's successive flushes and i'll try to take some prints and keep expanding the liquid culture... hmmm i knew i was forgetting something ! anyway let me know if you've done this before i think i'll do some smart proteins as a spray during the start and see how the material settles on the medium. Who knows?

CRiSPrGrow turns out wet mushrooms are legal and dry mushrooms are not. if you make them into powder and put the powder inside caps, that's the same thing as producing heroine by law ... so kinda nonsensical because i dont really think i did anything wrong. Plus i dont share. please dont send me them pigs ACABoofers . gonna spend a lovely afternoon walking in the woods with the wife. How is that meant to be so wrong? anyway, hope everyone enjoys themselves in life. that's all folks !
@YoungSmoke, call me crazy but vomiting all over the place just isnt my idea of how a trip should start 😅 the aya crew is big on "the purge", not me though, i'll take my psychedelics without violent bouts of queasiness please🙏
@CRiSPrGrow, 100% agreed! The shroom, ginger, lemon, honey combo I swear by. I put all my friends on it after I was tripping w a buddy and it was his first time and he insisted on eating them instead and he threw up half an hour in and didn’t trip at all. What a waste.
Is that trippy mushrooms? In Scotland they grow in the wild, I get them in my garden every year! My dad was a hippie so I used to go out as a child looking for them 😂 I took them once and vomited everywhere for hours and started thinking the bathroom walls were coming in on me haha talk about bad trip, never again 😂 I’ll stick to weed 😂
@GanjagrowingGal, lol that does sound awful, if i'm eating them , i'll have them fresh, never more than 10gs at a time (1g dry equivalent) , any more than that is too much for my comfort lol folks will have four or five times that and meet jesus in person , come back all shook lmfao
never tried to grow these before.
But we used to grind up about a gram, mix with melted choc
and put into little molds. Took a trip without leaving the farm(so to speak)
Masked the taste pretty well.
Getting to old for those anyways, I will stick to some good herb😎
Later Grow Big!!
@northernMike, hey hey hey, never say too old, you'd be surprised how much more you enjoy them now that you have that experiential vantage point from all those years ! enjoy !
@CRiSPrGrow,can you add me to the chat again, gd stepped in to check my account last week, but i only got kicked out from chat, i hope i can send messages now, at least i will be able to read along
@Smokwiri, lmao no worries growmie, but i cant add you back until you "un ignore" the chat, this you have to do in your profile settings, then DM me and i'll add you back 🚀
Hello friend I want to ask you how did you make the pf cakes with the jars from zamnesia. I want to specifically know how did you inoculate them, how did you sterilise them and how was the incubation phase. I am asking because I did mine for the first time without any experience and I pierced the plastics with the needle, I covered them with aluminium foil and as I see yours I think that I did many wrong stuff. Also what was your mix?
👍 franchement bien, Nova!!! Certe nous ne sommes pas d'accord sur tout mais ton PF-tek et au top!! Tu a assuré mec, pas la moindre contamination ! C'est du propre.👌
what's in that protein mixture you are using for 24 hours to re-hydrate? cool post i used to be a mycologist years back always thought about going at it one more try👍
Want to know a trick????? CRACKED CORN...$10 FOR 50lbs....You boil water.....dump in corn...bring to boil.....stirring.....turn heat off cover leave over night......RINSE CORN OVER AND OVER AND OVER....like a lot....I use a massive colander and rinse in a@massive pot pour out rinse put corn back in fill with water stir clean dump....once clean....PRESSURE COOK 15psi 75 minutes +-
I use a cheap pillow from wall mart in a hole in a Mason jar lid...then cover with foil to keep moisture out....
Let cool...inoculate...100%.....I also just use COMPOST....GOOD HIGH QUALITY COMPOST...usually good if its not still active...unless you want it warmer......$1 to grow an ounce...I do tubs 6 quart jars 3-4 inches of compost pressure cooked at 15psi for 35minutes...JUST PRESS ALL THE EXTRA WATER OUT OF THE PILLOW CASE....AFTER IT COOLED OFF...ITS PERFECT FIELD CAPACITY......easiest way ..GREAT YEILDS...pound dry off one tub six quart jars...
