Good to see someone else has found my secret pots! I run the 92 L ones. Could talk for hours about this. Built my own system like this a year ago and never looked back. Now have a fully recirculating deep water system. Watch the total system volume as this can be pricey with nutrients. Also the wham pots are great but I tape the lids on as they never fully seal allowing pests in . Good luck and I’m going to be watching this one. 👍👍👽👽

@BigDaddyK, in my DWC, I only use 2" net pots and rockwool, no thrips.. cost effective too... Cheers Also, using a single quality air stone should be fine, this reduces Rez temps, as well add extra air line to the run to give the compressed air more time to cool before entering the rezivoir.. keep it Green! really cool diary man! I will follow with interest "2) little holes In top are pointless" Which do you mean here? Also I know it is not so hot depending on where your reservoir is. but do you use water chiller in warmer seasons? (Against pythium) Cool hose drill =) never seen that before
BigDaddyK
BigDaddyKcommented5 years ago
@Njaak,i try and keep the air cool at low levels with intake from outside,, that will cool the reservoir
BigDaddyK
BigDaddyKcommented5 years ago
@Njaak,wow that sounds fucking awesome what was the total cost?

@BigDaddyK, if your temp ever does get out of hand (ours did when we maxed out our lights) it was super easy to DIY a chiller with a pump, garden hose, and mini fridge. Check out my FBT01 setup week 1 if you're interested. Holes through bottom of fridge door for the hose, which is coiled in the mini fridge freezer section. Find a pump rate that keeps your reservoir at the temp you want :). Our air temp fluctuates about 20 C to 30 C depending on the light schedule, and water is always 18 C to 19 C. Looked into thermoelectric chiller options but the beer fridge was so much cheaper.

Damn, the damage is on surprisingly many leaves. Fuck those thrips, I hope you can kill them all. Did it happen fast?
BigDaddyK
BigDaddyKcommented5 years ago
@BillMonroe,super fast , little fuckers

I had this issue too before. my auto dwc, half way through flowering, , it stopped absorbing nutrients and it slowly dried itself out and died. Can you tell me what the cause was? I do remember it absorbed all the nutrients and the roots were dry for about a day before adding water. did i shock my plant? thanks bro.

@MaryJaneUSA,do you have any pics? there are a number of reasons, the damage on these are caused by thrips, i ve tried some neem oil that does control them, but the fkers are back, so until Mammoth send me some bio ( please ) im trying predatory mites... if you have a look at my Purple Lemonade diary you might see something similar...that was too much Calcium.

This looks similar to the first build I did, the OG Kush, however even better is a shallow water culture, I did a DIY tutorial but I prefer the reservoir not be under the pot. The Nutrifield pro pots is what I use now with my own plumbing, just a simple ring and an 8W pump, no airstone needed, no cal/mag needed either.

Nice one on the diy build, I used one like this for many years and have never had explosive growth quite like it, I run my water level just touching the bottom of the net pot, try keep as much solution in them as possible. its far easier to maintain levels ph ppm and most importantly solution temp .
BigDaddyK
BigDaddyKcommented5 years ago
@puddlejump,indeed , I look forward to seeing your grows , tag me up when you startb👍

You dont need a gap of at least 2 inches and it doesn't mean more air, the air stones do the job, in my opinion the more of a air gap there more of a risk of the exposed root developing problems, essentially it is creating 2 environments for your roots to live in. That being said it is a DIY build and it is whatever works for you, Hope all goes well Ill keep following, gl
BigDaddyK
BigDaddyKcommented5 years ago
@puddlejump,hi you need to keep a gap of at least 2 inches between net pot and reservoir ,in fact a bigger gap means more air , these are performing well so far 👍 The reason I made these i# so I can have 20 litre reservoir not 10 happy growing
