The strain I'm growing is Purple Haze, this is my 4th crop I'm growing in my indoor 48x48x80 grow tent. I have a AC Infinity CLOUDLINE T6, Quiet 6” Inline Duct Fan with Amagabeli 6 inch Carbon Filter Odor Control 6 in Air Scrubber. The light I'm using is a King Plus 1200w LED Grow Light Full Spectrum.
With this grow I'm grow 4 plants and I'm experiencing with 3 different seed starting programs. Plant 1 and 2 were soaked in water for 24 hours then used the paper towel method for two days when there was about an inch of root growth then place into a small pot of "Green Groggs Omega living soil" which is the medium I'll be using for the entire of this grow. Plant 3 was directly put into seed starting soil and Plant 4 was planted directly into the Groggs Omega living soil.
On Nov 30 I put plants 1and 2 seeds in water to soak for 24 hours then on Dec 1st I planted plants 3 and 4 each in their medium mentioned above. Then used the paper towel method on plants 1 and 2.
Plant 1 sprouted on Dec 5th and plant 2 sprouted on Dec 6 by Dec 7th Plant 1 was 1 3/4 tall and plant 2 is an inch tall. Plants 3 and 4 have just barely broke the surface.
So by the end of the first week my experiment with seed starting methods has shown that the paper towel method is a faster way to start seeing growth by about 3 to 4 days but we will see how fast plants 3 and 4 catch up in the next few weeks. In the end it might not matter and all the extra work with plants 1 and 2 might not be worth it. On the other hand using the paper towel method you'll visual see the roots and know that seed will germinate and not waist time on a seed you put directly into soil and it might not germinate at all, which would be a waist of time and effort caring for a plant that wont grow.
This week Plants 1 and 2 have been growing well and are about at the same stage of growth. I'm hoping next week they really start to take off. Plant 3 and 4 have had a rough start, they're both just now braking through the soil which are putting them about 2 weeks behind in growth from plants 1 and 2. hopefully they can catch up pretty fast in the next few weeks so I can start topping them at least a week before I put them in bloom.
Based on this experiment, In the future, I'm definitely going to at least put the seeds in water for 24 hours before I plant them in soil. The time saved by doing a 24 hour soak to help the plant get started is definitely worth the time saved and very little effort to do.
In the next few weeks I'm planning to do a tutorial on topping as well as a tutorial on training your plant and defoliation.
All the plants are looking healthy and strong with dark green foliage. Plants 3 and 4 have finally started to grow this week so they are a couple weeks behind on growth compared to plants 1 and 2. I did plant another seed because I wanted 4 plants and I thought one of them wasnt going to make it but I was wrong. so I now have 5 plants to work with. there isnt alot to report on this week outside of they are looking good and on track.
This week Plant 1 and 2 have been progressing about on schedule and will be repotted this weekend. Plant 4 has had great growth development this week, surpassing plant 3 which sprouted at the same time. I'll most likely go ahead and repot all the plants into the final pot and will begin to start training them as well
This week I repotted Plants 1, plant 2, and Plant 4 into their final grow pots. I'm using 5 gallon clothes pots using the Grogg Green soil which I talked about in week 1. I also used a heavy amount of Perlite in each pot as well. So far I've seen some ever positive growth using this soil. On the last few plants I need to repot I'll us Happy Frog potting soil and see how it compares to the Grogg Green soil. Next week I'll be doing some training of the plants I wanted to give them a few days in their new pots before stressing them again when I start training. if everything goes as planned I'll be switching them to flower in a few weeks
the last couple of weeks I've topped my plants and have been slowly training them to have 4 main branches. The branches are about 4 to 5 inches long and have 3 sets of branches on each of the main branches. I'll be putting them into flower this week
Today is January 26 2020... it's the first day my plants are in flower... the flower stage for Purple Haze is 7 to 9 weeks. I put 2 tablespoons of General Organics BioThrive Bloom 2-4-4 in one gallon of water and watered 4 plants with it to help jump start it into flower.
Today is February 5 2020, so a few people have asked why I put my plants into flower after only 3 or 4 weeks of veg. The idea behind it is I want to get about an Oz in half to two Oz per plant in the quickest amount of time. plus in Oklahoma we have a legal limit on how much we can process at a time.
I put 2 tablespoons of General Organics BioThrive Bloom 2-4-4 in one gallon of water.
This week I had a little Ph problem... the Ph in my water got a little high but I caught it at the beginning and was able to fix the problem by get osmosis water. which seem to have fixed the problem but I'm keeping a really close eye on it. the plants have also hit a good growth spur everything is looking good at the moment.
