Amnesiac sprout just coming up. I will be using the suggestions of Spliff Seeds as far as feeding and lighting schedule. This is a heavy sativa strain and they suggest minimal nutrients during veg indoors and a 24/7 lighting schedule.
Tent is roughly 6X3X3. Exhaust fan isn’t on at this time. Supplemental heat is being provided as it is in a garage and it is winter in the northern hemisphere. The garage is heated but only to 60 degrees.
I had to add more supplemental heating to the tent this week. This dropped the humidity drastically. I think this a was a good thing, the plant suffered some overwatering this week. I have never used the Dr. Earth soil before and it holds water really well. Leaves were starting to point down as they grew. The plant was looking fatter and fatter, swelled with water. At first I thought it was too much light, so I lowered hours from 24 to 20 and added more light distance. I researched this from the Aponuo site and I already had it too close to the seedlings in the first place. I let the soil dry out well and the plant seems to be thanking me for it.
It was completely dry tonight so I gave it a sip before the pic. This soil is big on coco so I won’t be watering much. I will leave the light schedule and height the same this week and see how she performs.
I am basically treating this as an auto, the veg cycle won’t be long. This means I’m hoping for a short, squat plant before flowering to control stretching. Just as Spliff Seeds recommends. If the height or the cycle causes stretch, I will revert.
Obviously, she has been transplanted in her permanent 5 gallon cloth pot. This happened 12/18. I topped her as well, thanks to some fantastic support from Spliff! She was treated with Dr. Earth in the photos. I dusted the root ball on transplant. Dr. Earth has Myco and microbes. I spoke with their awesome people and they recommend me to do this. More than likely, I will flip this into flower on Monday. It’s already Wednesday 😩. This week has been chaos with the holidays and life in general! LOL on proof reading I see my content to be the same as how my mind is working right now!!
Edit: Began flowering light schedule today, 12/26.
Flowering for this girl actually started last week, but in the middle of the week. I feel this week can safely be considered the first week of flower. That being said, this week has also involved a lot of tucking as the under branches are shooting up rapidly. I was a little concerned, the new growth on the tips was a light green. I’m sure it is just because of the rapid growth, but to be on the safe side I added some Epsom Salts and molasses to the last watering. Everything has greened up quite nice, but one of the leaves has a strange half yellow trait. It is in the pic with the lights off.
I also top dressed with Dr. Earth Flower Girl. Normally, I wouldn’t be adding a flowering fert this early after the light switch, but the Dr. Earth organic nutes are literally powdered items that need to be broke down in the soil. This is why I added molasses to the last watering. I wanted to jump start the microbes to get processing available nitrogen sources as well as start breaking the product down. The suggestions for cannabis suggest to top dress every other week. I will be top dressing again next week.
I am really growing confident of the Dr. Earth line of products. I haven’t used any top dressing before I this. These plants are solely existing on the original soil in week one and that initial dusting of the root ball on transplant for the mycorrhizae to infect the roots. They are really reasonable as far as price, and I can get them at my local Home Depot. That’s a win in my book. I’m tired of ordering high priced nutes in fancy bottles. And I’m finding organic growing is a little more relaxing in that there isn’t all the stressing over nutes.
The humidity level is inflated. I had a water issue in the room the tent is in and I had just watered the plant the day before. The water issue has been taken care of and the plants are, obviously, drinking their water.
Week five has me realizing my perfect little angel-girl is turning into a teenager with a pretty severe drinking problem. The stretch is on in full force and she is needing as much water as she can get as she progresses.
Nutrients this week were a mixed bag. I added more top dressing of the Dr. Earth Flower Girl and topped the pot off with more organic soil. I find the cloth pots really allow for the soil to settle and this is often needed. I watered these in well with a moderate solution of Alaskan fish emulsion, just as a quick source of nitrogen to accompany the stretch. I have found fish emulsion to be readily assimilated by the microbes in the soil and hence, ready fairly quickly to the roots.
Luckily, I think I am over the hump of fungus gnats. I watered sparingly at first, and now she is taking the water rapidly. I have yet to see one of those annoying little dudes.
Hopefully, she will start to concentrate more on her flowers this week, and less on getting taller. Time will tell. She is throwing single pistils more steadily as time goes on.
I’m starting to see why Spliff Seeds suggested topping right before flowering. I let her go one week before flipping and I am really starting to think I should have took their word verbatim. The two tops that have been sprouting from the cut are steadily getting taller. I am not really seeing any buttoning of buds forming yet. Hopefully this week will provide that. Her sister, a Spliff Seeds Jack F1, is staying much more compact and the height difference will be awkward when dealing with lighting if the don’t start to level off to the same height. I am not concerned yet though. I’m sure things will even out.
This week is showing a sudden halt to her stretch. This is good, however. She has got quite branchy and a little lanky up top. It’s time for her to settle down and start paying attention to her flowers.
I didn’t fertilize this week with the top dressing, simply because the schedule says to fertilize every other week. I did water her in one time with a mixture of molasses and Epsom salts, simply to feed the microbes in the soil so they can provide some of the flowering nutrients she is wanting. The Epsom salts were obviously for a magnesium boost.
She still isn’t smelling too strongly, but she doesn’t have any trichomes yet. I suspect next week at this time will have her showing some. I look forward to catching a whiff of her terpenes.
I also added an oscillating fan to the tent to improve air circulation. I expect this to dilute any terpenes that may be diffusing into the air.
I have to hand it to Spiff Seeds. I’m an old school cannabis fan. I appreciate that breeders are creating new strains, but I really feel most comfortable with the strains I grew up with.
I am fully expecting to have a few trichomes to show next week as her flowers rapidly mature. Simply a beautiful plant. I am glad I took the advice of Spliff verbatim, she definitely would overgrow a tent if not topped and flowered very early. She is a brute, but I feel she is also a gentle giant.
This week went really good for flowering. Her spikes really have grown this week and there are flowers beginning to surround them. I do wish I would have been able to avoid topping her. I would really enjoy seeing her natural shape. There would have been no way to do this however, my tent would never have allowed it.
Unfortunately, she hasn’t shown me any trichomes yet. The way she is filling out though, I honestly think she will start this week at some point.
Unlike her tent-mate, Spliff Seeds Jack F1, she doesn’t seem to be having a problem with intense lighting at all. I did have to raise the light because it was starting to burn the top of the Jack. It isn’t all that farther from the original height, so I am not concerned with stretching.
She also seems to be loving her nutrients, so I have applied more top dressing. She really does seem to be resilient to things. I’m not going to get overconfident though, as soon as that happens things go down hill it seems...
At this rate, according to Spliff, she should be roughly half way through flowering. At the rate the flowers appeared on the spikes this week, I am expecting a lot of bulk in the next diary entry update.
See everyone next week!
What a difference a week makes! As we all know, pics of flowers don’t do them justice. She is going to have some fat, healthy branches.
I top dressed shortly after last week’s post, and this week watered her in with some Epsom salts and Molasses. She seems to adore her nutes. I am sure the microbes are in a breeding frenzy in the soil. An orgy of feasts and procreation.
Her leaves are a vibrant dark green, almost reminding me of the perfect leaf graphics on the t shirts I used to wear in high school.
Water intake has increased dramatically. I am shocked at how far down the blossoms are going on the spikes. She has certainly been bred with amazing genetics and stabilized for vigor. I can’t say enough good things about this strain. The really amazing thing is she still has barely any frost on her. No pistils are changing. She just keeps adding more creamy white pistils. Spiff Seeds, wherever you are tonight, I’m having a beer in your honor! Cheers!
Really looking forward to next week’s update on this beast. As I’ve said before, I can only imagine what she looks like if left to her own devices outdoors...
Unlike her sad looking wind burned tent mate, this plant is looking like a rock star.
She keeps throwing more white pistils and her colas are continuously fattening up. Some of her lower branches are now reaching up and gaining speed with the rest of the plant.
As promised, she keeps a low smell profile. Her trichomes are only now starting to reveal themselves. This would be an excellent stealth plant for someone who is concerned with odor.
All in all, a highly recommendable strain. Due to my late posting this week, she is about 42 days after light flip. She just keeps fattening her colas up!
Even though she’s being grown organically, I top dressed one last time tonight and will be flushing. She started this week with very few pistils turning color. This has been rapidly increasing. As you can see, the flowers are ripening rapidly. Trichomes are finally starting to show themselves.
Her tent-mate has been harvested, so she has free range of the tent. She has slowly stretched out and, hopefully, the lower flowers are getting more light. I did remove some leaves, hoping to get light deeper in the canopy. In all honesty, if she keeps shrubbing out, I will just throw a tie on her to point all flower branches up. Now that we’re sliding into spring, I will be investing in some tomato cages. These seem to be the best in soil for a small tent.
See you all next week!
At the beginning of this week I honestly thought I was ready for harvest. I finally got a microscope for my phone to see the trichomes up close. I was seeing amber, clear and cloudy. Ironically, I saw a post on FB about this issue from a guru I follow. He said to wait until the hairs are mostly changed, and then you start the scoping. Until now, I have always depended on the hair color. Either way, literally the next day, there was a flush of white hairs. Spliff did an excellent job with these genetics. I am shocked at how well this garden has gone and how stable their genetics are. It probably won’t be this week, but perhaps the next will lead to harvest.
The smell is so faint, one would never detect it. If it wasn’t my air exchange, I would just shut my filtration off altogether. Even when rubbing your fingers over a sugar leaf, you only smell a faint cannabis, earthy, mushroomy dank. Stealth is prominent in this one.
Trichomes are starting to explode. It isn’t frosty yet, but it’s getting there.
Stay tuned ;-)
This week has been a lot of waiting... I thought she was done, all pistils were ripe and I was paying more attention to my trichomes. Then, over night, a small “mini-flush” of white pistils appeared. So, now we wait again.
Her flower spikes are really packing on weight. I have had to attach the bottom branches to the main stock as they were just laying down. Now that spring is near, I will be buying some tomato cages to support future plants. I enjoy growing the plants without the SCROG screen. I have learned that cages are the way to go if you want to grow traditionally. If I had more patience, I would be trying my hand at SCROG. Maybe in the future.
I am wanting half and half cloudy/amber trichomes. I hate to say it, but some are looking quite clear yet. Thinking hopefully at the end of this week, which would be after the first week in March. Chomping at the bit to start my next garden. As Ed Rosenthal said in one of his books however, “No bud before its time.”
I feel like this is the black hole point of Fort nite. This girl finished quite nice but there is more to come. I have the seeds in hand. After I clean the tent and acquire the soil and pots I will be back! I am excited in that I will add inputs to this soil and continue it. All the fan leaves from this plant are in the soil as we speak lol
This strain is very stealth. Even on harvest I only smelled some sage and other herbal elements. There was no “skunk” or other really strong cannabis scents. Not even during flowering. I took Spliff’s advice and flowered very early and topped. By very early I mean three weeks. It has been an amazing strain to grow. My only advice is to let it go and go. The trichomes are only now changing to amber but I don’t care. It’s time is now and I am happy. It’s mainly Sativa so the extended flowering time should be expected.
Spliff Seeds has done a great job in breeding. I stressed the tent sister and all it did was grow longer hairs. This one made it through like a champ. She has not been stressed though. I don’t have smokable proof yet (need to dry and cure) but I am confident that this strain will be stellar after curing. I will be back with bud porn on this page, as a last hurrah.
If you’re looking for a stealth smelling very potent strain, this is the one. If you like Sativa strains, this is for you. If you are in a legal area and have to be concerned about plant count, this would defiantly fit the bill, especially in a commercial situation. This girl will certainly not be contained unless controlled. There is a reason Spliff Seeds recommends topping right before flower. It flies in the face of everything we have learned, yet without this I can’t even imagine what it would become. We can all hope to be able to find out one day, a regular garden grow outside without fear or shame... Until then, tame this wild beast!
