Grow Questions

Are there major differences between the various brands of pH Down? What should I look for in the labelling? I've even heard of quick dissolve tablets to add to the fish tank to auto balance the pH. What have been your experiences? Thanks.

Good question man. I didn't think of this when I didn't first grow and I have since changed to a different brand after learning a couple things. I can't tell you exactly what the ingredients are, but it's a very, simple acid base solution. And there isn't much of any difference between pH downs besides concentrations. I first bought General Hydroponics pH down with 237ml worth for 8-9 bucks. We go through a lot of this stuff (well me, anyway. Very high pH water table where I live) and that's expensive... So I tried a brand called future harvest. One liter, exactly twice the concentration, exact same results...9 bucks😮. I realized I was buying brand name and besides organic pH down solutions, there's really any, if nothing, of a difference between them. Get bang for your buck with pH up and down. Nutrients are where the cash is more important. Cheers man👍👍 Happy grows

Mmmm. Pink Kush. One of my absolute faves. All the best with your grow. LOL re: "the nursery". 😂

@stunflower, Thanks for the good wishes! This is my first time growing this strain - so far they're growing like all the indica strains. My closet, AKA the big grow room, is too dry for hybrid or sativa strains {shrugs}.

Flowering! The fun begins. Looking really nice. I did my first ever FIMing on my Wedding Cake last week. Like you said, quite a different reaction than topping. My Grape Ape topped herself and is growing with 2 colas out of the gate! I'm going to top her soon.

@JinksyGrows - Thanks for your response. The tap water here is also very high (7.5 usually). I ended up buying the 1L (~34 oz) Technaflora pH Down as I'm using their nutrient line for this grow and presumed that was the safest bet ($11 CAD). Best of luck in the contest! 👊

@EhlersChick, hey! be very careful using tap water as it's treated every 4 hours with some harsh chemicals, one specifically chlorine which will burn your plants. Use only spring water or rain barrel water (The investment on buying spring water for your grows in pinnacle considering there is already natural nutrients from the springs in the water and the tiniest amount of chlorine..you're talking like 2 parts per million or so?). Pro-mix is my go to and I mix it with 2 other organic soils to make a super soil, using only spring water the entire grow and they're on auto pilot :) With your little shrub being very bright green like that, it means the soil is too hot - getting too much nutrients before an adequate root structure can take the "heat". Spring water to flush the soil and you'll notice the normal greenery color comes back :) 😀
