Welcome to my second diary. This time I am going to (try) grow three Amsterdam Genetics - Super Silver Haze, 12/12 from seed. I understand that this is a hybrid with a big sativa dominance and taking into account my setup I might be in for a too big of a forest but I'm hopeful for a successful run with great genetics. I have decided to go with SSH (feminized) because now a days with all these new strains I wanted to go back to the classics. I am looking for an energetic and uplifting buzz that puts me to work with a smile on my face and a great attitude. My setup is small and I have some DIY led lights that I hope will bring up these plants to somewhat their potential. I've read a lot about sativa and they're monster size and because of that I am going 12/12 from seed. First time doing it and I hope it still yields. My goal is to have a minimum of 50g (dried) out of the three plants. Thank you for reading and following. I am looking forward for the comments, opinions and criticisms coming my way. Keep on growing. CanIbaS

Almost two weeks in my three plants are looking healthy and growing fast. I was able to crank up the temps in there and are now in a more "sativa" environment. Will be adding more DIY lights (side lighting) and try to install a drip drip system for irrigation. Thanks for stopping by! Keep on growing. CanIbaS

Three weeks in and as predicted these plants are growing big. My biggest fan leaf is easily 7 or 8 cm long. I need to start thinking on where to hair cut them in the next days. Also I don't know but they aren't growing vertically that much. About 15 cm so far. I understand that even 12/12 from seed plants take a few weeks to show sex and start the stretch but anyways, i'm a bit concerned. Thanks for stopping by! Keep on growing. CanIbaS

I've decided to prune some of the big fan leaves. The plants vigor is on point and i believe that my environment is very tuned in. So i've decided to strip the plants from most of it's fan leaves so that the side shoots/branches can develop more properly. Hope it works. During the next few weeks i'll be bending those side branches and keep in pruning the new big fan leaves. By week six it is my goal to install a ScrOG net. I haven't seen any pistil yet or to be honest not even bud sites. So i'm assuming that even under 12/12 these plants are still vegging in full power. Keep on growing. CanIbaS

Hey there, ScrOG Installed (DiY like everything). Now to finish the LST to direct the branches and we are on into flooring. Planning to reduce the light schedule to 11/13 next week. I am expecting to be able to fill the ScrOG fully. Should be around 30 tops, 10 each plant. They are looking good and green and so, despite the nutrient schedule saying to increase notes, I am going to maintain my dosages for now. I have also stripped mostly of the big fan leaves and they are responding well, a bit slowly but well. Thanks for stopping by. Keep on growing. CanIbaS

Started to show pistils, i suppose then this is flowering week one. ScrOG keeps getting filled and all the beneath the line foliage will be trimmed away. I believe right now i'm in cruise with these girls, temps and humidity are perfect and the food regiment must be good since I don't see any sign of deficiencies. Happy growing. CanIbaS

Hey everyone, Start of Flowering week #2. The pre-flower stage is over, I can say now I have three beautiful girls starting to flower properly. Stretching is happening but nothing extreme as i've read regarding SSH. I've had the plants stretch an average of around 3' or 7.5 cm during these past 7 to eight days. I am expecting for the stretch to continue but I still have a good vertical space to spare. I've continued giving the BioBizz nutrients at half power and introduced the TopMax on this week. UPDATE - End of week - They actually stretched quite a bit. The bud sites are pretty disperse in about half the colas. I believe that it shouldn't be a big deal and this way my side lighting should penetrate better the mid-canopy level. Just keeping it at cruise speed. Expecting the stretch to end soon. I don't know if i should trim some more leaves that are shading the smaller thus lower tops. I believe it's better to wait for the stretch phase to be over and then check if i need to defoliate further or not. I am, so far, very happy with these plants. They are growing at a nice pace, keeping very good colors and the branches are solid and thick. Very excited about the end result which should still take at least another 8 to 9 weeks. I do prefer the euphoric high and so I might chop these when trichomes are still not very milky. But since I have three plants going I can always partially chop and check what suits me better. Happy growing everyone. CanIbaS

Hello growers, Week 8 was great! The plants are finally in full flower mode with new bud sites appearing every day. I've been keeping the nutrients dialed at roughly 3/4 of strength and they are drinking quite a bit, more than a liter a day. Some buds are already showing some trichomes. So far I'm very happy with the Amsterdam Genetics. Great plants with no issues and quite sturdy. The tent is rather full but i believe my side lighting is helping with bud development. Preparing to sit tight and watch these bulk for the next 7 weeks. Happy growing everyone! CanIbaS

Hello growers, Week number 9 Which is week four of flower saw, what i believe to be, the last of new bud sites. The flowers grew well and I don't see any deficiencies so I'm keeping the nutrient schedule. Being a sativa i'm sure I will have to kick back and enjoy a slow but steady growth for the next 6 weeks. Assume I just need to keep an eye on the plants health and wait patiently. Still no noticeable smell. How does that sound for a plan? Happy growing everyone! CanIbaS

Hey everyone, I finally got a small deficiency going. It seems to me to be either a zinc deficiency or maybe some Ca or Mg. Either way I've watered twice with just tap water and will resume the feeding schedule this week. Besides that the buds are growing, slowly but steady and I'm enjoying the build up of aromas in the tent. I believe i'm still looking at least three to four more weeks until harvest but it' getting hard to not chop a cola to do some test joints. Keep on growing!! CanIbaS

Welcome everyone, Man this week has been bittersweet. The bud growth seems steady but that deficiency of mine is spreading. It started on the upper leaves and according to my triage it can be a deficiency of P , Ca or Mg... now, I also read that without good quantity of Ca the P isn't absorbed properly (or at all) by the plants. Am I right people? Well, anyways I don't have CalMag and right now no way to buy it. I'm going ahead and try the homemade CalMag with eggshells. Let's see if it helps a bit. I still have at least 3 more weeks (probably more but it's my cut) on these plants. Should I try to correct this deficiency or just bear the three next weeks managing it and going the finish line ? Thanks for reading everyone. Keep on growing! CanIbaS

Hey everyone! Week seven of flowering complete! I am happy with how it's going. A lot more red pistils but still three or four weeks to go. The deficiency is still there, doesn't seem to be getting any worse so i'm maintaining my water and remove biogrow from the nutrients schedule. Not going to lie and yes, i've removed lower buds earlier last week and have been drying (mix of natural + oven) for testing! And so far so good! (Prohibition land here and it's impossible to get any even before this virus). Decided to take my old Nikon D50 out and took these pictures. I'm sorry they look like there's a whitish curtain... old camera and lens, pretty dirty!. Keep on growing! CanIbaS

Hey everyone, This week went by super fast. my buds are still developing well, i'm really happy ! deficiency didn't seem to evolve. Upped the nutrients according to biobizz schedule and dropped biogrow. Had to take a tester. (or two). Its smokes ok already and taste wise it's very citrus with a sweet taste in the mouth after smoking. Should be chopped in two weeks, as per recommendation of the breeder. Happy growing all. CanIbaS

Hey everyone, Final week over here! This is it!! Don't see anymore growth and honestly i feel some buds are starting to foxtail. To my knowledge this isn't a trait of this particular strain according to the breeder and since I hear so many hermit stories i've decided to chop next week. Still will be watered two more times and then i'll let her rest in the dark for two days. Looking at some solid 5 to 6 tops and some mediocre 4. I've taken 3 tops out already to smoke. I'll report the harvest next week but so far I am super happy with Amsterdam Genetics and these plants produced some very tasty bud so far. Can't wait for a proper cure. Thanks for looking!! Keep on growing! CanIbaS

@Doktorholland, I agree, despite that now a days the strain variation (names and crosses) is going a bit overboard (at least for me), it's good to know that "old school" NL breeders are still providing beans as close to the 1990's genetics. I find it to be easier to grow and for sure a more recognizable result after smoking. It's my favorite toke every time i visit AMS.

You'll probably make it. I don't see cal deficiencies in your pics though. Usually it is brown spots, and maybe I'm blind, but I don't see the spots?
Canibas
Canibascommented5 years ago
@MovingOn, those are some good news then. Despite, deficiency still remains, only answer then seems to be the uptake of P. My pH must be jammed at root level. I don't really have a way to balance pH out (no products) but i'll try to go until the end. Thanks!!! CanIbaS

Hey man, those lights look pretty effective, I was looking for something to supplement my QB and I think, looking at yours, that these would be fantastic around the edges. And the temptation only gets stronger haha.

@Ashbash, Yeah they are doing their job. I'm happy. They are really cheap. 20 euros for 5 meters. Plus driver (cheap too).

@Doktorholland, yeah, I went in over my head. but sine i'm 12/12 from seed and with some pruning and LST I assume I will be able to control the forest in there.
