Germinated 1 Snowcaine seed Feb 1st 2020 using RootRiot cubes, a seedling tray, and some aquaponic water. Put on water heater in dark room for 48 hours until sprout showed. Now the seed is in the root cube surrounded by Ocean Forrest soil and plant burlap, and is placed in a transparent grow cup. The system is a well cultured 5 gal aquaponics tank with several fish and snail specimens, and beneficial bacteria. It has volcanic clay media as the substrate. In week 2, Fish Sh!t will be added, a natural microbiome booster. Seedling/Veg light is a Kolem LED Sun Spectrum grow light, and a fungi bag keeps c02 up. Hopefully by week 8 or so the plant can be moved to the 5 gal DWC recirculating bucket that is hooked up to my larger fish tank, and has a much larger 1000 W COB light. Doing one plant at a time to better manage nutrients, a common aquaponic problem. Will keep everyone updated! Please comment, first time MO med card cultivator. 😎🙏
I haven't ran an aquaponics setup yet but have done a lot of research. I love aquaponics! I have kept several aquariums and high nitrogen levels are the biggest threat to your fish, but it is what your plants need the most. So balancing nitrogen is the tricky part of an aquaponics system. Other than that your bluegill can handle pretty dirty water and low pH that you need so I think you are set up for success! Good luck. I look forward to seeing how it goes.
Moved the plant from the 5 gallon aquaponic tank shown in weeks 1 and 2 to its new home in a recirculating DWC bucket. Coloring issues seems to have subsided for now, just keeping watch at this point, and letting her do her thing!
Sorry for the late post this week, I have been down with a case of pneumonia, but I was finally able to get some pics today. The coloring issues from the last few weeks are correcting, I think the bubble buckets help greatly with that. Tried adding some organic Fish Sh!T nutrients from a store in Michigan, it has tilapia gut extract to help boost beneficial bacteria! Any comments this week? I'll try to reply as soon as I can. 🙏
Pleased with the progress! Coloring just keeps getting better and she is starting to really branch out. Next week we will switch to a 1000W Mars Hydro Sunlike Spectrum light so she can get some better PAR. Then I will probably start another 2 Snowcaine seedlings since it seems to be going well. Let me know what you all think! :)
Well here we are at the halfway mark of how long I would like to veg this lovely lady for! Another six weeks and I think she'll look even better! Switched to a Mars Hydro 1000W light and germinated 3 more Snowcaine seeds (by 2020 Mendocino ) a few days ago. One is already sprouting! Also added some companion plants to the tent, have some lemon grass, holy basil, and chamomile to help with pest control and oil production. Fish are loving the recycled water! Any comments/concerns/kudos this week? 😋
Another great and productive week! Being stuck at home has given me more time to work with all of them and my fish, I really appreciate having this hobby going right now to decrease boredom! Seedlings and companion plants are coming along nicely, next week they will go into the buckets and another CO2 bag and small recirculating fan will be introduced. From there, it'll be just water changes, a few nutrient additions, and time! By week 12-14 I hope to switch to flowering and start the next part of my aquaponic journey! Any comments, compliments, or concerns? Would love to hear from everyone! Thanks, stay healthy, safe, and well medicated. 😎
Based off of the last few weeks, any more comments, concerns, or compliments to the processes and methods I have used? She is currently about halfway done in veg. Thanks! 🙌
@FroggyBoi I have had a bit of history in aquaculture & I love your innovative ideas and the plants look to be very healthy my only concern is with the seedlings and how wet the substrate looks are they always that wet? or do they get air? Other than that I love it 👍👌
Well here we are at week 8! I think after next week it will be time to start her flowering. Snowcaine being an F1 hybrid (50/50 indica-sativa), I am not sure how much height she'll gain in flower. But with 3 more on the way I think it'll be time to start the next phase of her journey! Any comments this week? 😋
Well here we are at week ! Just started her flowering stage today. Again, Snowcaine being an F1 hybrid (50/50 indica-sativa), I am not sure how much height she'll gain in flower, so better safe than sorry on the distance to the light. Comments are much appreciated, please and thank you!
Week one of flower! Very excited to see how she is doing by week 3 or 4, will hopefully start to see some good kolas then. Going to try and give her 9 weeks in flower or so, we are a little over halfway done! :)
Happy belated 4/20 to everyone! Week 11 is here, and the plants and fish are all doing well and happy to help each other grow. Not much changed this week, still waiting for kola formation, most sites have white hairs extending a couple of inches currently. Any comments or recommendations this week? 👽
3rd week of flower! They are all making good progress still, so happy to see them all thrive (knock on wood). PPM is around 950 - 975 daily, and I added rock phosphate and potassium sulfate to help boost the flowering plant's PK. Any more comments/suggestions/kudos are much appreciated! 😇
Really starting to notice those nug sites this week! Gonna try to reveal some more of them tomorrow and get an updated photo of her full girth, she just keeps growing and growing! Let me know if you have any suggestions. 😎
Great week so far, took down the tent divider and adjusted the lights accordingly. We turned off the water re-circulation system from the fish tank and added some King Kola and HoneyChome nutrient supplement to really boost those pk measurements. Any comments or suggestions this week? Only one month to go! 😁
Week 15 is here! She has 4 weeks of flower left, so we are looking at a mid June harvest for Big Bertha. She's finally stopped gaining height and is really getting those kola sites going! 3 other Snowcaines are doing well, but will definitely need more time. Comments or kudos are much appreciated as this is the rounding the final corner before harvest! 😎
Week 16 has come and passed! Great progress, week by week she keep improving, in 3-4 weeks we will be keeping an eye out on when to flush and finish. The other three plants still have around 6-8 weeks left still. Any comments or suggestions on what to do from here? Thanks!
Well for a first time grow I feel like a learned a lot, and now have a couple Oz to turn into flower or maybe some bubble hash. I wish I had let Bertha grow for another week or two before flushing, but due to a lot of Missouri spring rain and a crappy rental house basement, we had to harvest early to let the maintenance people come work on the grow room. The other three plants now reside upstairs next to my bed where I can keep a better eye on them! Any final comments for me? I will be starting a new diary soon!
