Day 20___________________ - Drained system and refilled with full strength nutes. Added CALiMAGic and Hydroguard as well. pH’ed out to 5.7 and after it circulated a bit, stabilized at 935 ppm. Installed full CO2 tank again and turned it up a hair so it reads between 1250-1500. - Did some math to figure out how much light I SHOULD be giving the plants. At ~50watts/ 1ft^2, and using half of my tent with a floor area of 8x4, or 16ft^2, I should be using 800watts for my lighting. (Technically using 3/4 of that 16ft^2, because I have 3 plants and one empty net pot, but for ease of understanding, I’m just using the 16ft^2 number) My HPS pulls 180w, and each LED is roughly 300w measured, so a grand total of 780 used watts, I’m not disappointed. Day 21___________________ - Measured pH, PPM, H2O temp, and size of plants. All adjusting very well to full strength nutes. - P2 still stained a discolored, yellow blotch and leaf tips slightly pointing up.

Grow Questions

Hello fellow gardeners, This is my first Hydro grow. Seems to be going good, but I feel all plants are rather short. Am I supplying too much light so they don’t stretch out, or is something else going on? 4” tall after 4 weeks seems a bit short, but is growing plenty wide.

The plants look nice and healthy so there isn't an issue as far as nutrients or anything. Your node spacing is really close together so moving your light up some will let them stretch some and give you better node spacing for flowering. I would move them up about 6 inches and watch them closely for a few days if they don't get further spacing then go a couple more inches. Definitely a game of trial to find the best height for each brand and model of light. Good luck!

Been fighting with myself to defoliate or not. This is my first grow, so I’d almost like to try it naturally to have something to show improvement from on later grows, but wow is it getting dense under there.

Definetly need it for airflow or leaves will start sweating and producing condensation on them.....I went mental on my first scrog grow 8 plants 4 x 4 cut every fan leaf of week 1 and 3 of flower stretch basically just left top 2 leaves on every branch and within 5 days it looked better than ever probably stunts growth a day or 2 but its worth it for airflow and light in the long run almost forms a blanket of leaves scrog...don't go crazy if your worried just do bit by bit..your plants are super healthy so won't be an issue for instance I filled two carrier bags full of fan leaves from 1 grow and got 14 oz from 4 x 4 setup 8 plants in coco 600 watt hps all dense buds Barney's farm genetics which ain't bad would of hit 16-17 if I'd of stuck few more plants in and filled the space

Hey man, it's a good idea using a scrog but don't be shy with it...get it right down on those plants so there are no branches pointing directly up. I just found on out on my current grow it's really useful using a small squared scrog just to squash them down good. I'm two full grows ahead of you in hydro, which is stuff all but my diaries are pretty detailed if you're looking at a reference. First and foremost...have you got something to ensure your pipes don't clog up with roots during week 5-6 of flower?

@ShiftyGaijin, I used these as a quick fix but they're pretty perfect. The other option is to wait until your pipes begin to clog...the tail end of the roots will be long and when you carefully pull the root clump out...wrap it around the root ball and push it up against the outlet. That way the root ball itself acts as a grate of sorts, that worked for me on grow 2 anyways. https://www.aquagardening.com.au/all-rounder-hydroponic-net-pots-80-x-75mm

@Mospeada, thanks for reaching out. I’ll def give your diaries a good look through. I DID have a few screens over the pipes draining, but one started clogging and drastically lowered the level of the bucket it drained into, so I did away with them. I’m assuming that’s something I should probably revise?

How long has your white widow fast Been in flower?

Well, that happens when you TOP the plant. It will develop secondary shoots more evenly and grow out instead of up. Give it a week or two and it will resume growing up.
