These are two clones that were monster cropped off the plant in my first dairy, an unknown bagseed indica that proved to be resilient and a decent smoke.
These clones have already been through hell. They were revegged for probably 3 months under insufficient light. They were repotted from a soil / peat mix in a plastic pot that had become rebound to pure coco in 1 gallon fabric pots. They were hand watered with leftover nutrient water that was poorly aerated until two weeks before they were moved into the tent.
As can been seen in the leaves they suffered a calcium deficiency, likely as a result of lockout. Because they were hand watered and the coco sometimes dried the root zone EC spiked. After moving them into the tent they were flushed for 2 days to stabilize the EC. New growth seems healthy.
After a few days in the tent I did some extensive pruning to remove the crazy growth near the main stems and small bud sites that won't develop. Because of the spread out structure of the plants I didn't have to top them. I did however install a trellis net to start scrogging, though I'm going to keep pruning any lower bud sites to focus solely on the existing growth.
I'm looking forward to seeing how these two differ from the mom they were taken from, which suffered some late flower deficiencies that affected the final product.
New growth was looking healthier, but still too light coloured. Next I refill the reservoir I’ll up the nutrient levels just a bit.
I’ve done tried using House & Garden’s nutrient calculator, it is helpful for ratios, but it wants me to use way more nutrients than seems necessary. Plus when I do mix at their quantities it results in a much higher EC than my plants are comfortable with.
I’m using about ⅓ of the recommended dosage of Cocos A & B.
Nice bud formation this week.
I didn't notice that the reservoir pH jumped up to over 7 pH for at least one fertigation. That seems to be what caused the reaction seen on the leaves in the form of some yellowish spotting. I corrected the reservoir, hopefully this fixes it.
Steady progress during this week of flower. I haven't had to do much except check on them once and a while, the automated fertigation makes things really simple.
Fan leaves near the top colas are starting to turn a dark purple, this happened a bit the first time I grew this strain. The leaf damage from pH fluctuation is still visible, but hasn't seemed to worsen.
The inner centre of the canopy was getting very congested and I was noticing more leaves yellowing and dying off. Even though it's already halfway through flower, I decided to do some pruning of the larger fan leaves, making sure not to remove all of them. This opened up the middle of the canopy to a lot more light and airflow, I'm hoping this will help lower parts of the colas to develop.
Upper fan leaves are still slowly getting darker and developing copper spots. None of the lower growth shows any symptoms except the fan leaves being hit by the floor fan
The buds are still developing nicely. Dark purple almost black sugar leaves surround swollen calyxes all coated in a powdering of trichomes.
Trichomes as mostly cloudy no amber though.
Buds haven’t stacked up as much as I’d hoped they would, but these aren’t the best genetics.
The reservoir still has a few days worth in it, once it’s run out I’m going to start to flush.
These girls are definitely ready to come down. The trichomes are mostly cloudy with probably about 10% amber. I haven't noticed any further bud development over the past week. They haven't stacked as much as when I first grew this strain, but they still look sticky and smell very nice, like citrus and berries.
The structure of the plants was quite nice, they weren't topped, but because they were monster cropped they developed several main colas. With a bit of LST I encouraged each plant to develop about 8 tops. The scrog was useful in the early stages of flowering, but became pretty useless when the plants stretched over a foot above the trellis. I could have used a second trellis net, but didn't bother. The extent of stretching resulted in very minimal stacking of buds between nodes.
The flowers didn't bulk up as much as I would have liked. Their mom grew very stout and dense, these didn't get as wide or as dense. They are however very frosty and smell much sweeter than their mom. These have a strong berry aroma that I didn't notice as predominantly in the first run of this strain.
A few branches had very purple flowers, whereas the rest of the harvest was more predominant dark green, with orange hairs and some light purple in the calyxes. I'm curious why only some branches demonstrated this behaviour.
Though the majority of flowers are smaller and somewhat airy, the end weight was 136 grams. I likely could have yielded higher if I let them go longer before harvesting, but I was eager to move my next run into the tent.
