Of to a quick start as expected under the CFL. This is the first time working with a seedling in the box as the last ones were photoperiods that started on my windowsill and were transferred just before flowering as adult plants. This is also my first time growing autoflowering plants so wish me luck! All help and support appreciated. Love Donny

Good week. Fastberry by Fastbuds is living up to its name(s) so far. I'm sure they'll be much quicker than the photoperiods I started off organic and on my windowsill! Looking forward to next week, should be topping her soon. I know lots of people say not to top or hst autos but I thought I'd give it a go since I've got a real small space to grow in!

So far so good with week 3. Topped on day 17. Nice and early and at the 2nd node, I'm experimenting with some less common methods for autos I know but it's all good fun and the best way to learn. I plan to do a sort of mainline, or at least a T shaped split. Ended the week finishing off this stage of the training. Looking forward to see how it going to react and look by the end of next week. Comparing to other similar diaries on here I seem to be about a week behind schedule, hopefully won't end up with a tiny plant and she give a good aggressive growth spurt. All help and comments appreciated as always. Love Donny

Hi all, who has grown and attempted HST on Fastberry by Fastbuds before? I'm worried I'm about a week behind schedule and she's not going to have time to veg out before flowering hits! Should I be worried? I don't have loads of room anyway!

Never grew fastberry but applied hst on other fast buds autos with great result.you can't go wrong with hst unless you completely break the stem.even if you break, you can tape it and itll probably recover.hst makes stems bigger, stronger, ends with greater yields.my fav training so far.just break the inner muscles and you are safe By the way,you can hst your plant even after 3-4 weeks into flowering with no problem.bent stems and tops will position themselves to the light in a night

I'm worried I've not started training early enough as this will go into flower in week 4/5. Just praying that the fastberry vegges gout fast enough! In hindsight I will not be topping my next autos. But I'm nt sure I have enough head room for just bending and other LST methods. Love Donny

First week of showing pre flowers.. unfortunately. I wanted it to veg out a little more but understandably the time has come! Anyway so far it seems to be bouncing back quite well now. I'm really interested to see how well it goes from here. I've switched over from my cfl to the household led. Last plants I did with this light worked out incredibly well considering its voltage and original purpose.

When stunted with too much stress, will a fast growing auto strain such as Fastberry still manage to eventually grow fully developed flowers? If so, how long would you expect this to take? Given an inital 8 to 10 week germ to harvest time.

Training just delays them in flower. They do the same like untrained plants but later.....so i think in 5-6 weeks your Harvest will come ( if you stop major training on her) as she is quite small she wont be a big girl at all but she will give you harvest

Seems to be growing out well now its into the flowering stage. I seem to be getting very uneven stretch on some of the nodes though, no idea why.. Any help? I hope I still get a decent harvest of this stressed out girl.. I understand this is a classic mistake for 1st time growing autos.. Oh well. Best way to learn is by making mistakes! Love Donny

Started this week by removing the final box under the plant pot to give her some more room to grow. Also decide to rotate a little to the current position. Two of the nodes seem to be growing and stretching more than the others, even higher than the mainline bud sites.. Crazy. I've now done the final bit of training, I'm excited to see how it grows from her onwards. Peace Donny

She's doing okay, still Miss Slowberry unfortunately. I'm starting to think there could be things slowing the plant growth other than initial stressful training, perhaps the Plant Magic nutrients I'm using or the lights are inadequate, it is very small but seemed to do wonderfully blooming the last set of plants I did. During my 1st grow I spoke to a salesman of quality LED grow lights online and he literally told me that almost all led lights designed for growing would be too intense for such little height in the grow box (about 17inch).. He kindly steered me away from his products and recommended I get a 13w led household bulb from a decent manufacturer/brand and go with that for flowering, and that my currrent CFL bulb is good for veg. Any thoughts? Anybody had good results using this nutrient line on autos?

I'm regretting not removing all of the vertical growing nodes on the mainline now as it's a bit messy and some of the lower budsites won't get enough direct light to produce decent buds. At the time I was very cautious about removing any growth at all as I was worried I would further shock the plant! Seems okay now anyway, and I think it's pretty funny that I managed to turn a fastberry into a slowberry.. How long do we think until harvest now? Peace Donny

H50cm W37.5cm L57cm Now using 1 household 13w Phillips LED 2700K for flower, a 120w CFL for veg and I use a cheap 20w dual Spectrum LED that I'm sure does almost nothing. See pics for convo with led sales guy. Is the height really that much of an issue with the light intensity?

Lets see you have a surface of 37.5 * 57 that is 0.21 sq m or 2.3 sq ft. My own space is very similar to that although taller. You need 30 to 40 watts of led watts per sq ft, that is 70 to 92 watts (and forget CFL). Check this picture https://media.growdiaries.com/static/post/photo/4596/288556_micro-grow-60w-78w-run-2eva-seedshigh-level.jpg You can keep using the led bulbs, just remove the plastic cover and point them down and use several more of them. Since height will be an issue I would use 5000K to 6500K color ones, that will help in keeping the stretch down.

Is this light burn? If not what is it? It's under a Phillips 13w household led 2700k bulb, it's not the only affected area but it's the most affected and the closest to the bulb. I plan to add more but don't want the issue to accelerate. Thanks in advance!

The tips are burning and the leaves are yellowing but I cannot see burnt parts. You have a nitrogen deficiency and maybe a nutrient excess that is causing the leaves tips burnt ( high Temps and bad ph can do that too )

Showing some almost certain signs of light burn now, didn't expect it from such a puny little bulb! I think the height restriction in my box is a little too extreme. I know its nothing to do with the heat as its only warm to the touch when on, must be the light intensity. Hopefully it won't go as far to bleach the cola. I don't know why it never occurred to me before but I think next time round I will try growing with the box on its side, with the light source central and the exhaust being at the top I would have thought I'd get better results, and hopefully no light burn.

12 weeks and still bulking out! Slowest fastberry ever. I've had a good look on here a few times now for stunted auto diary's that have been completed, people seem to either give up all together or give up uploading photos. The buds are definitely starting to ripen up now but I think it's still a couple of weeks off! Purple pink and orange tones throughout and she's smelling divine! Peace Donny

The strains true colours are really coming through now, lots of nice deep purple tones. Sadly in addition to this I think the plant might be reaching the end of its lifespan. I don't know if autoflowers are the best choice for me in the future but I've still got a purple lemonade auto id like to try (no hst and topping) before I make the move back to photos.. Naturally I'm starting the flush now.. as of day 89.

In your case i would go back to photoperiods, You can bring them into every shape you want to...

Hi @Mrs_Larimar, thanks for your answer and this advice. I'm very new to growing still and just wanted to try out some fast growing autos, there's so my hype online and some amazing growers on here using them. I have another auto seed from Fastbuds called Purple Lemonade. I'm going to give that a go with just LST and see how it goes.. From there I'll decide to go back to photoperiods or keep on trying with autos! Thanks again for the help, and for showing love! Donny

You're plants look like thier doing really well, I'm also doing a Fastbuds strain Auto Zkittlez. I've defoliated it and it's doing pretty well tbf. Its pre flowering/ pre flower stretching. Happy growing

@Bashgrowsitall1989, thanks for reassuring me. I'm still worried how mine will react to all the hst so young. Can't start much later though, typically a 10 week growth period on this Fastberry. Not sure I'm running ideal nutes either as I'm pretty new here. My box is tiny, height is the real issue as I can't put very powerful lights inside, will make the unit too hot and harm/burn the plant. It's homemade from a 92 litre storage box. It's size is H 520. W 595. D 395.

@donnythechef, No worries pal, actually this is the 3rd time for me and everytime they respond well. It really helps extra upwards growth and letting light into the centre of the plant does the blooms the world of good.

@Bashgrowsitall1989, thanks buddy! I'll go take a look at your ZKittlez now! Is this your first time hst / defoliating autos?
HylianGrass
HylianGrasscommentedweek 45 years ago
Hey there buddy looks like you might have thrown too much stress at her , at week 4 you should have a feet tall plant with more than 6 nodes, growing is all about trials and error so never give up, you might want to try lst on autoflowering plants since your veg time is 3 weeks and that is really smal for shaping a plant to your desired size. I start training plant at week 2-3 and introduce defoliation only to interior leaves and those who blocks the light when i am in pre-flower state. Like i said dont worry my first plant yielded 1g since i stressed her, But id say apply training techniques when you have mastered the environment and understand the baisic of growing. Try a few grow without even touching the plant to see how they react to nutrients and heat or even stress. Best of luck and never give up you are on the good path since she looks healthy but a bit behind. Also if you really like to play with your plant ypu might want to stick to photoperiod since you can veg her out as long as you want . Much love and keep growing👊🏻👍🏻👍🏻
HylianGrass
HylianGrasscommented5 years ago
@donnythechef, its all good , as i said its all trials and error and who cares about size when the end result is a healthy good looking plant. Going small can be harder than going big sometimes. I am glad to see you takes the positive side of the comment you get, i did not mean to drag you down or discourage you with my comment . We grower need to grow more than our girls so keep experimenting or trying techniques that trow you out of your comfort zone. Happy growing my friend and don’t hesitate if you need help or anything most people around here are very nice And give constructive comment . And remember you are doing this for yourself and from what i see it wont be long before you achieve your goals. 👊🏻👊🏻

donnythechefcommented5 years ago
@HylianGrass, yea unfortunately this is what I'm thinking too. I have a very small space to grow in so letting even a small natured strain go without training isn't really an option! I honestly think that with a bit more experience and topping even earlier it would veg out in time.. Theres plenty of people using this "nugbucket mainline" technique on similar autos with great success. I see that you either need to top super early or not at all.. Thanks for all the useful info anyway buddy! I've got a purple lemonade Fastbuds seed I'm going to try next. I will not be topping this time, just LST. Donny

@Doktorholland, hi there buddy. Not sure I do to be honest. A better brand might help but the power for this very small area is just fine : Look at my other grow. The slow growth is due to me giving the plant too much stress early on.

donnythechef
donnythechefcommented5 years ago
Hi @Germano, I got rid of them to let the plant focus on the new shoots that are now growing out faster. I've seen this HST method with some other auto growers. I know this method may seem strange as the plant needs the leafs to pull in energy, but the proof is in the pudding.. And I've seen it work with my own eyes. Really I'm just experimenting with different growing methods.
