Week 2 lights cont. Light - I wanna write this down somewhere because its the 5th time I've referred back to my research notes when buying a light, so bear with me. PPF Photosynthic photon flux = intensity or how much the light emits. 4 x 4 space 1100umols 1500 tops 30 watts per square foot 3 x 3 * 50 watts = 450 watts minimum (not draw watts, but swap watts) PAR Photosynthic Active Radiation PPFD Photosynthic photon flux density. the average PPFD, or distribution of light is very important PAR Chart shows the density 18h veg stage need about 300-600 PPFD 12h flowering need about 600-1000 PPFD Spectrum Targeted and Broad Targeted = photsynthically efficient 1st gen of lights Broad - White Light blue better for veg red diodes better for flower Light intensity and the ratio of red to blue light during flower will determine yield. ex. 4k 1/1 ratio of blue/red = smaller yield and better quality. 3k 1 to 2 ratio of blue to red = higher yields and lessor quality. Wattage 2.5 umol 500w = ppf 1250 2.0 umol 600w = ppf 1140 to fiqure out efficiency of the light. A formula is out there somewhere. Use smaller lights rather than one big one as LED does not disburse well. Placement is more important. Blue 440-470nm red 640-650 UV is a supercharger 315-400 range 4000k range = balanced 6"1 5:1 red to blue Ratio ideal to boost yield 2:1 1:1 red to blue stout, resin production wattage/space/coverage area 3 x 3 288 watts 2 x 2 123 watts 4 x 4 512 watts This should be draw watts 3w bead is efficient 5w 10w double chip in terms of wattage efficiency, bigger is not always better. Stated wattage of product is probably half as the diodes would burn out if used at full capacity, hence the 50,000 100,000 life Warranty 2 years is average 3 years is good. PPFD/Watt hi spec burple 1.3 1.5 ppfd/watt full spectrum 1.2 1.5 ppfd/watt cob 2.0 ppfd/watt The best set ups lose 25% of unols a bad set up you lose 40% of umols PPFD is the most important number for your grow light system. 450 umol is the minimum 750 umols equals high yield. High and uniform PPFD values across entire canopy umol formula 750umols/m2/secs (high Yield) philzon cree cob 100w 250w draw romancelink cob led 1200w both if I had a Willy Wonka golden ticket .What it cones down to is every watt matters when you pay the light bill, for my situation anyway. I wasn't just about to go out and buy a name, or you can come from the school of "you get what you pay for". What is a cob? chip on board which does what? increase light …..density? So long as the spectrum is correct and the byproduct of heat doesn't come off the light, and its ul listed... it's my belief that you can make something grow and grow well. Or if you see weed plants in the ebay picture you're probably gonna be ok, but if you look at and understand the specs, it will be a light you can work with. fans, I use 2 of these lemoistar fans speed 2 and they are horses, 2 because I rotate them to charge. soil amends CONT. week 3
