One of my 3 first new grows after a longer than anticipated involuntary break from growing.
I'm growing one of my favourite strains again, from my favourite auto seeds breeder FastBuds. I normally rely on photoperiod clones, but in this particular spot - under a window - I'm thinking an auto is best suited to the conditions.
I was afraid this seedling might start to get leggy like my previous attempts at using the "big grow light in the sky" during the same time of year in my old place - the difference being they were sitting under a conventional, vertical window, and this one lives under a Velux window, or skylight. So far it's looking pretty good! =)
I'd really like her stem to start getting stronger. I gently blow a little air into her (now a bit more open) enclosure every time I walk past to fill in for the fans she's probably missing.
The reason the "dome" is still there but with the top part removed is that my place is very low humidity, and I'm going to try to protect her from that for another wee while.
Not the fastest growth, but considering she's living life as a house plant under a window, as opposed to as a crop in a dialled-in grow tent, I'm happy with her progress. Looking healthy, expecting to be able to top her at least once before she bursts into flower.
Decided to at least FIM her and tie down the branches a bit when they start growing, going to try and keep the height of the plant low so in case of a security emergency she can be safely hidden in one of my small tents.
Overall she's doing well, leaves are looking healthy, pace of growth is a bit slow but still reasonable.
Spotted the first few pistils this weekend (day 28) at the site of the FIM around two top-most new shoots.
Seems a bit more stretchy than inside a tent, but that's probably to be expected. Still healthy looking, now to see how much weight she'll manage to pack on over the coming weeks.
Yeah, she's stopped the stretching, and starting the fattening. I always love the fattening. I guess we all do. Have I typed enough words yet to turn that yellow up there green? Yes!
I remember that the same strain, grown in a tent, was finished by this time. On this one the buds are just now starting to fatten up. I'm going to give her as much time as she needs to do this, I knew that with only limited sunlight she wasn't going to be the fastest finisher.
Smell is getting stronger ... :-O ... and it is quite a lovely smell indeed.
Think I'm going to give her till the end of the month from how the buds are looking at the moment.
She's not putting on any more weight, and the trichomes are getting milky (even spotted some amber although very sparsely), so I reckon she's coming down the next weekend. Probably not even a half ounce on her.
Disappointing in terms of yield, but it was a test after all - I don't think I'll grow plants "to term" in that spot, but seedlings get healthy and strong there with no stretching. So that's a win - a no-cost nursery.
This was but a test grow - result is I can grow seedlings in that spot, very well in fact, with healthy green growth and no stretching, but I shouldn't attempt to flower plants there. Still going to grow the one out that's a month behind, but I don't expect much in terms of yield either. I'll stick to tent grows again in the future.
