Day 1 4/10/20 after 2.5 days in 90/10 coco mix plug tray, Ren is alive and going to attempt an outdoor kratky style grow to dominate the world. Ren will be placed in a 27 gal storage tote and be grown in an off grid kratky style. I have kept tomato plants alive in kratky setup for nearly 9 months and only killed them off because of a downey mildew infection from the winter weather. I will be adding regular doses of compost tea to the reservoir to help keep the roots healthy and fight of bad bacteria. As far as nutrients, I will be using maxibloom and may add a little calcium Nitrate for a little added nitrogen during veg cycle. Thanks again to grow diaries and fast buds for providing the genetics for this grow. Day 5 had to do some shuffling in the nursery. Every dog needs its pack so I dropped 2 more Chemdawgs in root riot plugs.

Day 10 change of plans, parts I need to complete my outdoor plant stand are back ordered and I need to get Ren to her forever pot so she was placed in organic mix as follows: 60/40 mix of FF happy frog & ocean forest 20% black owl biochar 20% hydroton 20% ancient forest Kelp meal Neem seed meal Ren's transplant hole was dusted with recharge and watered in after placement. I plan on running the other 2 hydro outdoors, I have about a week until I need them in their permanent pots. Day 11/5 meet Muttley and Alpha, the last two villainous Dogs join Ren in the garden. Day 13 prepping the kratky tubs. Painting the 27 gal totes white to reflect sunlight as much as possible. Day 15 way too hot to transfer the seedlings outside. Unseasonal Mini heatwave currently in mid 90s

Day 20/12 Ren is coming along fine on water and was given recharge yesterday. Alpha was moved into its Kratky tube embarking on a suicide mission. Tub filled with 22 gal dechlorinated tap water, 2 scoops of great white, and 4g/gal maxibloom. Ph 6.0 ec 1.88 Muttley has joined the dutch bucket line with some tomato seedlings fed. Day 22 looking good Day 23 / 15 Alpha was looking over watered and noticed her netcup had settled below the water line, I must not of had the lid fully down when I filled up the tote. All of the hydroton soaking wet and the root riot was drenched. Everyone else looks great. Day 26 / 18 Alpha is looking much better since the cup was raised, dropping more roots down as well. Day 28 / 18 Ren watered with recharge

Day 22/29 Muttley in the dutch buckets is doing the best out of the 3 by far. Muttley is vegging on 2g masterblend tomato formula 4-18-38, 2g Ca(NO3)2, 1 g Epsom salts per gallon at about 1.9 ec. Day 24/31 watered Ren, not sure Alpha is going to amount to anything, and Muttley happy as a pig in shit. Day 26/34 ren is a straight up defect. Thick main stock and no side branching what so ever. Its like a totem pole. Moved Muttley to the best sun spot on the bucket line and Alpha is hanging in there.

D. 43/50 Muttley 26" Alpha 14" Ren 12". Muttley being fed on the veggie garden line with tomatoes, squash, and peppers. Being fed masterblend 2.1g, MGSO4 1.1g, Ca(no3)4 2.1g per gallon. 2.4 ec ph 6.0 D. 46/53 don't think I can push mush more N on the bucket line but I need to increase my Ca. For the tomato to prevent blossom rot. Thinking of adding calmag which has low N on top of the current dose of Ca(NO3)4.

D. 50/56 watered ren with recharge. Thinking Ren is going to be finished soon. It basically veg 2 weeks and flowered and didn't stretch. Muttley can't take much more nitrogen, may have to break her off the tomato line. Alpha is hanging in there D.52 modified the feed on the tomato line. Ec is high at 2.8 but usually drops fast in first day. I found GrowMore Mendocino No N Cal Mag so I cut the calcium nitrate in half and added the No N calmag at a rate of 15ml per gal. This achieved a marginally higher % of Ca in the solution while reducing the overall N from 9.5 to 7.5. I had to increase the calcium in solution to avoid blossom rot on the tomatoes and canabis loves calcium too. Current feed formula on Dutch bucket line: ArmorSi @ 2.5/gal GrowMore No N cal Mag @ 15ml/gal Masterblend 4-18-38 @ 2.4g/gal Magnesium Sulfate @ 1.5g/gal Calcium Nitrate @ 1.2g/gal Bonus was this clocks in at 6.2 ph. No need for ph down for added ppms. Will check tomorrow and adjust if needed. D. 55 24hrs since the change of feed for Muttley and the leaves are already beginning to level off and relax from a very upright with slight claw position. Positive signs cutting back on the N should get this back in shape while still having higher Ca levels. D. 57 hot dry offshore wind blowing in unusual 97F with 8% rh

D.62 Muttley is flowering along beautifully drinking the same feed as my toms, peppers, and squash. Alpha is hanging in there, gonna change her res for first time. I honestly never expected her to live. She's handling 80F + days and made in thru 5 days of 100F Temps in a static Kratky setup. Roots firm and strong, just a little stained from the maxibloom.

Day 87 after a long absence, life made the diary take a back seat, i am happy to announce that Muttley has been harvested and buds washed and is now drying. Ren will be coming down soon as well. Both ladies have battled high Temps in the upper 90s and ping pong humidity levels and still pulled thru, a little beat down but still produced some beautiful purple green buds.

Well someone is getting some nice sunny weather you son of a bitch ha ha ha Just kidding. Looks greats really I'm jealous everything outdoors for me has been treated to a steady rain/cloud cover for the past week. Mother Nature is wonderful but she is a cruel mistress at times.

@DeadwebsiteBoringcommunity, other than the marine layer rolling in often lately which brings low 60s with 70%+ humidity, its been going good. Uv index has been 10 lately, kill those spores and make that resin.

Liking the dutch bucket rate of growth?

Ga4rd2en0ercommented5 years ago
@BudXs, not just that, also the simplicity to run several plants at once since i don't have to worry about watering. I just have to top off the res in 3 days and change in 7. If I get the energy to dig out a bigger res, that would even further cut down. In one min I can check ph and ppm/ec for 14 plants. Also, seems to be no root issues and plants handled a week of 100F weather just fine. Another thing I noticed, my hydro plants outdoors seem to have a much better insect resistance.

Looking great I had to follow along with this.. Beautiful idea and set up really.. Usually people wouldn't brave hydroponics in the outdoors me included ha ha. but this is fantastic. Looking forward to seeing results.

@DeadwebsiteBoringcommunity, its definitely an adventure. Only thing I think can really cause issue is rain, other than that beto/dutch buckets seem pretty bulletproof (knocking on wood)

Absolute intriguing!!! I tried to kratky once but I totally ignored the root support - no rockwool or anything else, just naked roots. I want to see how you will procede!

@AlpineGoat, we shall see. I just started this one in lose coco coir that I placed into my seed plug tray. I will place it in a netcup with hydroton pebbles, but I think the coco will fall away. Hoping the plant will finish by july, that's when it gets really warm here. Thanks for stopping by!
