I have never used a NFT system before so this is a big learning curve. During the first week, the PH spiked to 6.8 and caused a little bit of tip burn. I have not had the same issue since. The two plants used one tank each during the two weeks they vegged for. Half way through the first week, I swapped a HPS bulb for a metal halide. I think you can see a massive difference in the two plants. I had some problems keeping the humidity levels up in the room. They where dropping really low during the day. This was causing a some leaf curl. I added a couple of evaporators into the room which helped to raise it some.

This week was pretty much the same as the week before. I was battling with day and night time temperature and humidity levels. I was using two evaporators on full to keep enough moisture in the room during the day. Other than that though, I would say it went pretty smooth.

I decided to change to 12 / 12 at the end of this week. They had just finished a tank of veg so it seemed like a good time to switch the light cycle and change the bulb back to a HPS. At the end of the week, I introduced the Scrog net and started tucking the branches. With hindsight, I would have done this sooner.

No real issues this week. Just checking the PH and EC to make sure they where OK. They where starting to drink very fast now. Many heads where starting to show across both of them.

I started to run into a few issues at the end of this week. The PPM was raising really high whilst the tank was still quite full. Because of this, I emptied the tank and dropped the feed back a little.

I am still have problems with the EC rising after a 26 hour flush. When I changed the tanks, the EC was 1600 within 24 hours, that had raised to 2000. The plant on the right had raised to 2300. I assume that the plant has a nutrient lock out so I have flushed the plant on the right and I am going to leave it for 48 hours this time. I have also had some temperature spikes to 39c as we have had some crazy hot weather.

My EC has increased from 1600 to 2300 in 24 hours. I suspect a nutrient lock out. Should I have flushed the plants for longer?

The plants usually tell you how much food they want/need, so i would listen to them. If the EC raises by that much it's either that they don't require as much food (i'm not sure if you follow the manufacturers instructions, or measure to get the correct readings?) or water has evaporated in a higher amount, which would also raise the EC. You mentioned a high temperature, so that could lead to a lot of evaporation, so if possible i would try to keep that in check first. Maybe a chiller might help? Given plants are always grown in different environments i find that i can't really rely on the manufacturers recommendations, but i check daily (sometimes twice) what's the EC in my reservoir. If i notice the EC goes down over time, i know the plants feed more than what i provide, so i add a bit more next time, and if the EC goes up, i know they don't take up as many nutrients and lower it accordingly. I usually then calculate to the difference of what i gave them (i.e. if i gave them 1.6 and they go up to 1.8, then the difference is 0.3, so i take that off the 1.6 the next time and only give 1.3). I do have to say though that i don't have much evaporation happening, as it's not getting that hot here, so that's something i don't have to consider as much, but if i had to, then i think i'd dilute it even more, so i can take some water evaporation into account and don't get a much-too-high-EC value in the res.

The temperatures are still and I am getting quite a lot of evaporation from the tanks. I have just been adding an additional litre of water to compensate rather than swap the tank out after two days. The two plants are clearly different phenomes. The one on the left is producing huge colas but hardly any trichomes. The one on the right has loads of heads which are covered in trichomes but are no where near as dense. It is a shame I did not get two with the combined traits. I am hoping that the plant on the right will grow some trichomes over the next week or so.

Coming into the last couple of weeks now. I have done a little bit of defoliation to allow the light to penetrate the lower sites. I think the one on the right will finish before the other. The trichomes are about 50% cloudy on the tight. I will probably start flushing that one next week.

The worst thing that could happen has happened this week. I noticed that the strange plant on the left has gone hermi in places! I noticed that seed pods where looking pronounced. The majority of them are empty but a couple of sites had seeds :'( I have cut off all buds which contained seeds but I am not sure I have all of them. I cannot see any bananas and the buds on the first plant seem OK. I cannot feel any seeds growing within the buds. I have decided to flush both plants to try and minimise the risk of loosing it all. The buds on the seeded plant never really looked right to me. They have always looked kind of male. I am really disappointed though. I am pretty sure the Hermis came because of the temperatures. It has been spiking into the high 30's. Please send thoughts of no seeds in my first plant
