Started training with the first row of netting. Switching soon from Advanced Nutrients to Gaia Green slow release dry ammendments. I could of turned off one light and got this all done but I was dialing in the new setups temps/humidity levels.
As needed I would bend branches to flatten the canopy. The punch and roll technique works great on fresh green stems. Any hard / purple stems will require you to pinch and roll alot harder to accomplish the softening of the stem in order to bend it without snapping
First time using dry ammendments. Started using Gaia green week 1 of flower. Using top dressing. Fed with two separate compost teas while I wait for the slow release ammendments to take over.
Finished last major defoliation. Trying something new no defoliation to anything below the first net. Everything below that net will be bubblehash.... Update May 2nd, no smell. Trichomes slowly developing. It's been a breeze since switching to organic nutrients.
Cruise control!..
*Update*
May 10th - Pulled lights up about 2 inches to stop the burn. Hoping 2 inches is enough.
May 13th Molybdenum Deficiency? Light burn? Or just fading. I say fading. Since my pH is locked in also since I'm noticing the fade on lower leaves now even after I raised the lights.
Almost time to top dress for the final time. @ a 70/30 ratio of bloom/all purpose. Going to add a nice boost with some compost tea w/ seaweed extract tomorrow.
I am really enjoying this pheno/strain. When I bump it or brush up against it
It smells like orange citrus. It doesn't pump off smell yet unless agitated.
Thanks everyone who has been checking this grow out.
May 18th. Added pictures of the plant showing its a tan from my lights. It's not tanning the overlapping leaves. Very pretty colours coming out.
Also top dressed at a 70/30 bloom/all purpose.
May 20th - Starting to think I should of top dressed as soon as I noticed the leaf fade. Oh well this is a new plant and a new line of nutrients I've never used before. I'll run it again soon.
Noticed some leaves drying out and curling back on themselves. I'm starting to really think I should of top dressed a week earlier than expected. Oh well live and learn. I've fed with compost tea today May 21st. I have some extra tea saved for tomorrow. The leaves that aren't all crisp and thin. Are starting to turn a nice healthy shade of green again. So I think we may have saved this lot. But just by the skin of our teeth. I kept a mother so I can have some more attempts at getting this pheno done right.
Here we go week 7?!? I'm starting to notice some swelling in the main colas. They've been still for a week or more. Also not noticing a smell unless I agitate the buds. Still just giving ph'd water.
May 30th. Fed up with my terrible phone photos. I was due to upgrade my phone. I'll hopefully have better pictures this week.
Week 8 is this the final week? We shall see, but my new phone made it so I cannot connect my old USB microscope. I checked the trichomes before I got rid of the phone and we were 80% cloudy 18% clear and about 2% amber. I’ve ordered in a new microscope. Once I receive it I’ll upload some trichome shots.
Coming down Saturday/Sunday.
I will come back to do a full report, tomorrow is full chop day. I just wanted to show you all the outcome.
Update June 13th - Did one plant wet trimmed some was done spun with the spin trimmer. Doing the rest as a dry trim. Going to compare results.
Update June 18th — The dry trim looks way better then the wet trim. I even took a few wet trimmed and touched up the cuts. Granted I need to clean my spin cleaner. I just don’t have the amount of alcohol and $ to continually clean this giant bowl so the buds are just smearing all the trichomes all over everything. Once the surfaces are all coated and sticky it makes it worse too.. again my fault for having a dirty spin cutter right now but still. I want to do this bud justice so it’s still hanging. Nice slow dry it’s still damp keeping an eye on it. The air flow is good so I’m really really hoping we can avoid any issues. Already jarred the wet trim it was ready for cure already.
Side note I can say I’ve noticed that this bud is so much darker then the stem that you can’t help but notice every stem when it’s jarred. I’ll post examples. It’s not a big deal just thought it was interesting.
SMOKE REPORT IS GOING TO BE WEEKLY STARTING WITH END OF WEEK 1 IN CURE.
1st-Wet spin trim-June 25th 8:20pm first taste of red Mandarine... heavy eyes sedated feeling, calm, relaxed. Berries/fruit flavour. For have very little visual trichomes this bud sure is packing a punch. It is stronger then anything I’ve ever grown before. But that being said I’m still a newbie so ever crop seems to be an improvement.
July 24 — Dry trim comparison is a noticeable difference in taste, smoothness and effect. The taste is a clean sour pucker. I don’t smoke so it’s hard to compare smoothness but this is where I noticed the most difference. The vapour can get very thick and peppery (It makes me sneeze) but smooth. The high is strong but functional. It helps knock down my anxiety and releases what can only be explained as mental pressure.
All in all you could compare Red Mandarine (both cutting methods) to the stuff they put on the top shelf and charge 3x the price of a gram for. I’ve grown 8-9 strains now this is for sure the number 1 in all categories and I would recommend everyone grow this at least once.
As far as weight...Yeah I don’t keep a scale around. I probably should but i just don’t.
