We're returning back to basics with this single plant grow, using one of my favourite strains. The goal of this grow is to focus on the core fundamentals of soil, maximising yield with our small set up and keeping our plant healthy. - I always use paper towel method for seed germination, works well for me. Took around 4 days. - Soil is Westlands MP w/ JI, added perlite to about 50% composition. Soil choice was dependant on the lock down and is just what I can source locally. I have used it before with good results, it's a little on the hot side but it is manageable. - Transplanted to a 4L fabric pot at the end of the week, before she became root bound in the solo cup. - We start the seedling off under the HLG 135 set to 70 watts. We slowly increase wattage over the week up to max 135 watts as she gets settled in. - Watering at this point is not too complicated. PH corrected tap water, no nutes. - Slightly deformed first true leaf, possible damage from seed shell but nothing to be worried about.

We continue this week in the 4 litre pot. We've used the same soil composition (50% perlite/soil). The extra perlite balances out the water retention properties of the peat-based Westlands soil. Hopefully in later weeks it will retain its light texture - We've now turned on the second light (Spiderfarmer 1000 120w). We're at full power early on, but since the lights are relatively low power and not too aggressive, it makes sense to give the plant as much light as possible, as soon as possible. - Slight colouring on the edge of the lowest leaves. Something to keep an eye on. - Happy with grow rate, leaf colour and texture. - Still uncomplicated watering, PH corrected tap water (left to breath for a day). Plants now takes 500ml with around 3 days between watering.

- As you can see, discolouration has continued. It begins on the lower leaves and is slowly moving up the plant, one node at a time. Let's dismiss root and lock out issues for the time being and assume it is an immobile nutrient deficiency (N, P, K, Mg and Zn). Mg and Zn deficiencies are somewhat rare and likely not the cause. Based on the discolouration pattern and the age/stage of growth, a likely cause would be N deficiency. - Remedy is the a light feeding of Grow and Algamic. Nice and easy at first while we keep an eye on how the plant reacts. Ideally we'll see the discolouration slow down or at least stop. - Transplanting to the 16L pot has been delayed (because of lockdown and being able to get supplies), which probably contributes to it. I wouldn't be surprised if the small 3-4L of soil is spent of nutrients as the plant gets bigger. - Tent temperature and humidity have been high, warm weather has brought the intake temps up by 3-6 degrees pushing the tent temp close to 29-30C most days. Not ideal, but the plus side is there less variation between night and day temperatures.

- Transplant completed to the final pot size. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get my hands on more Perlite, so the mix was closer to 15-20% soil/perlite instead of 50% as originally planned. Not ideal. - Last weeks feeding halted the deficiency progression for some time, so I believe I am on the money. However since she has access to fresh soil I will pull back again, stick to plain water and see how she reacts. - LST begins, 2 lowest nodes removed to avoid smaller bud sites at a later date. Current nodes are above the initial bend in the main stalk. This way we will end up with a nice, flat canopy.
