Starting from seed
Day 1 12.31.2117
5 feminized seeds
1 gal distilled water, 1/8tsp Superthrive, 1/4tsp Liquid Karma
Scarified and put them in a plastic cup of the liquid on the router for warmth
Day 2
All 5 sank and several started to split their shells.
Planted them in the seedling pots (50/50 coco/perlite) with 2 tsp of the solution and a sprinkle of Mycorrhiza.
Set up a heating pad under a water tray and a humidity dome to maintain temperature and add some humidity. It's been in the single digits (F) and low teens here for a week and the air is bone dry.
Added about a tbsp of the germination solution to each pot and hung a fluorescent seedling lamp over the tray an on 18/6 timer,
Day 3
Temp 74
Humidity 72 and holding under the dome
Waiting for the first shoots to show
Day 4
Gave another dose of the germination mixture and replaced the seedling lamp with 4 100W equivalent 6500K cfls. Temp 74 Humidity 76
Day 5
3 of 5 seedlings have popped.
Added a 30% dilution of my Jack's 3-2-1 mixture to the remainder of the gallon of germination mixture. Temp 73 Humidity 76
Day 7
Looks like only 3 of the 5 are going to actually germinate. Bummer.
Moved the water tray with the seedlings into the small early veg tent with 5000K Quantum boards.
Added some paper towel sections to help maintain the humidity and left the dome on the seedlings to give them a chance to adapt to the stronger light. Continued with the new nutrient mixture.
WEEK 2
01/07/2018
Day 8
Removed the humidity dome and continued with the same nutrient mixture.
Day 10
Fastbuds has such a good reputation, I decided to see what happened to the 2 seeds that hadn't popped. Turns out, there must have been voids in the coco mix in those 2 pots that collapsed with the first watering burying the seeds too deeply. Poor suckers had nice roots and about 6 inches of stem they put out desperately searching for the light. I've replanted them with an appropriate amount of stem above the coco mix and hopefully they will recover. Live and learn.
The 3 that popped are progressing nicely.
Day 11
Looks like the 2 “underground” sprouts are going to make it. The stems are straightening and the leaves are greening up nicely.
I've had to increase the nutrients to twice daily. The air is still very dry and it seems the roots are developing well and pulling moisture out of the coco as well.
WEEK 3
01/14/2018
Day 15
Increased the Jack's component of the nutrients to 50% of normal and added 1/4tsp of Botanicare Rhizo Blast for root development. Feeding twice daily now to keep the seedlings hydrated. the temp is remaining in the low to mid 70s during the day with humidity around 30%. Seedlings are 2+/- inches.
The “problem” seedlings are small but appear healthy.
Day 19
All 5 seedlings continue to develop foliage, and hopefully a strong root system. One of the problem seedlings has a crooked stem so I added some toothpicks to help it stand up straight. Seems to be working.
Should only be a couple of more days before I transplant to the 4 gal hempy buckets and move them to the new veg tent until they show pre-flower.
WEEK 4
01/21/2018
Day 23
Still in the started pots but I've mover them to the new veg tent with the Sun Systems 4200k 315w CMH fixture on a 20/4 cycle. Looking at the root development of the photos I started at the same time, these should be ready for their hempy buckets by the end of the week. Based on the belief that autos are highly sensitive disturbing the roots, I want to make sure the roots are a solid mass before the re-potting.
The 2 seedlings that had the underground adventure week 1 are healthy and almost caught up to the 3 that started normally.
Fastbuds says these start slowly while developing their root systems, but I'll but amazed if these actually finish in 8 weeks.
Time will tell.
Day 26
Moved all 5 to their final 4 gal hempy buckets and started them on the full strength Jack's 321 regimen
WEEK 5
01/28/2018
Day 29
Re-poting seems to have been successful.
Feeding twice a day now and the plants seem to really like both the nutrients and the light spectrum. Close to a 2” gain since yesterday.
WEEK 6
02/4/2018
Day 38
Last week was probably pre-flower rather than veg, but the change has been dramatic. Fastbuds describes these as slow starters while they establish their root system. They should also mention that they're explosive growers once they do. It looks like there are 3 phenos here
3 plants are about the same and are now budding and 14” tall
1 plant is shorter and bushier
and 1 plant is 20” tall That's 14 inches of growth in a week.
Had to raise the light a bit and they're taking all the nutes I'm giving them even with 2 saturation feedings a day.
WEEK 7
02/11/2018
Day 46
I ended up keeping these under the 4200K CMH a week longer than I had hoped, but it took more time, money, and work to get the new flower tent up and running. Today they finally made the trip from the veg tent to the new auto flower tent.
They're under 16 (800w) of COBs in a 54"x54" tent, They're now getting 850-1000umoles at the canaopy.
Growth has been eye opening. They range in size from 24-29" tall and the bud structure is developing nicely.
Now that I know what to expect, I'll be ready to start LST as soon as they begin to take off vertically on the next grow.
I'll add some more pictures later in the week
WEEK 8
02/18/2018
Day 59
Stretch has stopped and flower development is going nicely. There are at least 2 identifiable phenos. The only curve the plants have thrown me so far is that they started yellowing from the bottom up despite no change on the nutrient regimen. I've tries adding extra N and Ca/Mg but nothing seems to help. No real sign of this prior to this week.
WEEK 9
02/25/2018
Day 63
No real changes from last week. Plant are scavenging themselves but the buds are developing properly. I'll have to see if this is what happens with the next grow or if something went wrong and I missed it. The main stalks and the tops are looking fine so I'll make it to harvest without a problem. Hopefully next week.
I've started diluting the nutrients as this is probably the last week before harvest.
The final strain report will have to wait a week or 2 until I've had a chance to dry and cure the buds. Hopefully this will be very similar to OG Kush in taste and effect. I'm guestimating the weights since I can't post without entering a weight... it's so sticky I don't want to handle it more than necessary. I'll adjust things after it dries.
I've amended the original post now hat I've had a chance to dry and weigh the harvest. I'll modify the smoking impressions, etc as soon as they've had a bit of a cure. What I will say is that I had 2 very distinct phenos in this crop.
Pheno 1 produced large colas with a very tight structure.
Pheno 2 was more of a popcorn bud and not as heavy a yielder.
Both were sticky and stinky so I'm looking forward to good things.
Since it was my first grow of this auto strain, I left the plants pretty much au natural to see how they developed. The only exception was one plant that was nearly a foot taller than the rest ... that on I had to supercrop and tie down the main stem. The quality looks great, but I'm a little disappointed with the yield. I have another 5 pack and with what I've learned in this grow I'm sure I can get to at least 2oz per plant with a bit of LST.
What I can tell you at this point is that the buds are SUPER RESINOUS ... sticky as all get out. I'm definitely going to soak the gloves and scissors in Everclear :)0
@Hawkbo, I know it's been a while but I thought you'd appreciate this update. I grew out the last WCOG seed I had and the results were quite amazing. She was just under 47" tall and yielded a hair over 3.5oz trimmed and dried.
It was the same tent / nutes / light setup that I used for the full grow documented here.
Go figure.
@Hawkbo, Turns out I was a bit optimistic ... final dry yield was 9oz ... less than I expected but for my first experimental auto grow I'll take it. I have some other autos scheduled for the auto tent rotation but expect another WCOG in the near future with the 2+oz target in mind :)
