I altered the ph of some tap-water down to 6 and soaked the seeds for 24 hours in the water. The seeds were in seperate shot glasses on my heat-mat. The Gorilla Cookies (GC) had a nice long tap root after a day and the White OG (W-OG) had just popped its tip so I transferred them into some jiffy peat pods and popped them into a little humidity container and added a bit more of the same water placing them back on the heat-mat. 24 hours later the GC had popped out of the soil and I moved the humidity container and heat-mat into my tent under a small 70w ufo light, 24 hours further on and W-OG has just made its way up out of the dirt.
Once the seedlings roots started to appear from the bottom of the jiffy pod I transferred them into netcups (yoghurt tubs I cut) with clay pebbles surrounding them and popped them into a small hydro setup I made from an icecream container. Im using a small air pump and one air stone with 2 litres of water. I used ph down to maintain a ph of between 5.8 and 6.2, this took about a drop per litre (not very precise as your dropper may make bigger or smaller drops than mine :P).
I popped a humidifier in the tent that I keep running on low, Im aiming for around 60 humidity give or take. I have an exhaust fan up top and small usb fan running over the light that turn on and off with the lights. The fan down the bottom is always on it helps with intake from the vent but also creates some airflow for the plants.
Overall I'm fairly satisfied with the progress, the reservoir is quite small and because of that I need to monitor the ph more often than I'm used to. Got my light upgrade and the plants have seemed to progressed nicely and responded well to it. The roots are now getting large enough that I can move the girls to a bigger reservoir that I'm going to source and fit in the next couple of days.
Kept them on the same strength nutes, still trying to keep on top of PH but happy with how things are progressing. Changed into a 35L reservoir with about 17L of water + nutes, bigger pump but it somehow only half works now so the supplier is either sending a replacement or parts... for now its on a lower setting with only 2 out of the 4 outlets working, still better than the small pump and stone but I'm disappointed that I can't pump as much air in as possible. Might top in the next few days then start some training.
Last week of Veg, changing the feed today 8/06 and will be flipping in about a week. just trying to bend and tuck the leaves to get as much light as possible to the new growths.
This week I flipped to flower, changed the light height and added a trellis net :). Showed some pistils day 4 of this week, growth is starting to accelerate.
This week has flown by, but I feel like I've been refilling the feed every two days. Have had a little bit of an issue maintaining PH levels as seems to vary more than I anticipated.
Really starting to flower now! Love this period, might be stretching so I'll have keep on top of that but apart from that I'm gonna keep feeding, checking ph and let them do their thing.
Fan died last week, still have an exhaust and passive intake but have a few fans on the way in the mail.
New fan got here, so that's a relief, still waiting on my oscillating fan but am happy to have one at least.
Still very gradually defoliating, in a couple of weeks Ill do a major assessment of the canopy and heavily defol if needed.
They're thirsty girls! Topping up reservoir daily, trying to keep on top of ph still, I really should've designed the reservoir with a drain tap, as I haven't been able to completely empty the reservoir since flipping. fingers crossed for the next month.
Just riding it out now, changing the nutes down next week, less and less from here on out. Cant wait for harvest :P look even frostier when the flash is on.
Lowering the nutes now, per the feed schedule Im using, gonna be interesting to see the response. I think some of the top fan leaves are suffering from wind/light burn, but Im not all that worried as my canopy height caries so much, just gonna ride it out.
Just riding it out, had a check of the trichomes even tho I know itll still be a few weeks, white OG was all clear but the Gorilla Cookies is starting to cloud up.
Found a pocket of spider mites last night, fought some off a few weeks earlier and had been checking regularily until the end of last week, saw no more sign until last night :( Got rid of a lot of leaves to increase airflow was probs gonna harvest after this week anyway but if they come back strong the next few days I might just cut them early.
if u defoliate too much there will be no leaf matter left to support the bud development....................and i would look for a better light..............it would take you a mile further..........................and cut a nuts a bit.....at this stage they just need less and less...........................looks really good
@bonemealheavenly, Hey, thanks! I tried soil and then coco when I first started but wasn't doing too well, at the time I knew a lot less about feeding plants and ph monitoring so that didnt help but I found it easier to correct my mistakes with hydro. I think if I was to go back to soil now I'd do much better with what I know now. I can't wait to try a full organic no till grow but I find the growth rate of hydro to be super fast. Thanks for commenting :)
