Howdie y’all. Time to fire up some more as per usual. I still have more Fastbuds fast flowering photo period testers to try out. This is the sixth in the line, a sativa, that flowers in about 50 days. My previous grows (FFT1-5) were plagued with early low temperatures, and then just wasted sea of green failures. I am committed to doing better. I germinated in a peat pod in a small cup of HP Pro Mix. My veg tent is 4’ x 4’ DIY construction. I have a 300 actual watt full spectrum LED and 1/6th of the same light, another 50 watts. This is day 3, lets go.

Day 18 for FFT6. I just saved ‘er, as it appears it was starting to stretch and dislike the super small starter container. I had no room! Now, its been transplanted into 10 parts HP Pro Mix: 5 parts worm castings: 1 part Fox Farms Happy Frog soil.

Day 25 for FFT6, the sixth of the Fastbuds testers. The plant is liking new soil and amendment, and just increased temperatures in general. I trimmed any foliage that was damaged from the early stage. This is now in a new veg. tent which has two 300 actual watt full spectrum LEDs.

Day 32 for FFT6. I cut everything off just prior to pictures, keeping the space clean and the growth completely vertical. I then irrigated with some 24-8-16 All Purpose Miracle Grow and Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag). Looks wilted, could be nitrogen, but it was so soon I think its just the flood of liquid. I will monitor and water if necessary. Next week I will transplant.

Day 39 for FFT6, the sixth Fastbuds tester. Still being disciplined with water, so I haven’t irrigated much since the feeding, but was just water. Not super fast growth, my tent isn’t the warmest and needs some mods, but things look good! Leaves appear healthy.

Day 46 for FFT6. I knew I had to delay all week to transplant because I needed soil. So, I top dressed early in the week with some blood and bone meal, mineralized phosphate, and worm castings, in a mix of HP Pro Mix. As it dried out,as I am trying to be disciplined with watering, it got a little phosphorous burnt. Thats fine, I’m usually deficient here. I got soil and transplanted a couple days ago. The mix was My transplant mix was 30 parts HP Pro Mix: 5 worm castings: 1 ASB Greenworld Sheep Manure Compost: 1 ASB Greenworld Black Earth: 1 ETI Greenhouse Gold Seafood Compost: 1 Green Gaia mineralized phosphate (guano): 1 alfalfa meal compost: 1 pulverized egg shells. BudXs was on my case today, so I sealed the top of my veg. tent a bit, where the mylar meets the rafters, hoping to see a slight increase in temps in the coming days.

Day 53 for FFT6. The colours have shifted quickly. A little on the nutrient excess side, I think it will be fine, its what I expect with how much phosphorous I put in the soil. Also, with the tent sealed it is much warmer and all the nutrients are accessible to the established root system. I’ll continue to water and will flush if I suspect its going toxic. My flower tent had been taken out with mites and so I expect to be waiting. In the meantime, I’m allowing ladybugs to establish themselves in my veg. tent to search for insects. I am planning on getting serious with pest prevention too. I haven’t cut off any of the foliage that was damaged a long time ago, and its getting bushy. More reason to be careful with pests.

Day 60 for FFT6. I think I’m finally seeing good growth. Things are warm, the ladybugs have been active. I have the fan moving air. I got preventative this week and sprayed some Safer’s potassium based Insecticide soap to try to get ahead of things. I think this also acts as a potassium feeding. Things look good in any case.

Day 65 for FFT6. Time to get flowering going. I was hoping my Amazon shipment wasn’t delayed, but it is. So, it will just be Safer’s Insecticide Soap again. The HPS tent is also all cleaned out with the same. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 Getting away from defoliation, lets see if the articles are correct (and SBG). Last photo is the new tent, with the flash on. I have the lights coming on at night now, hoping this is beneficial. Will only be subtle in my basement.

Day 72 for FFT6. One week of flowering complete, six weeks to go. Unlike some other FFT runs I’ve done, I want to see what the actual projected date looks like. Good growth and stretch. I did treat with neem before the buds started. I sprayed a light mixture of neem oil, more potassium insecticide soap, and water, focusing on the under side of the leaves. Immediately after the weekend last week I mixed a compost tea which steeped overnight. I took 2 cups blood and bone meal, 2 cups of alfalfa meal compost, 2 cups worm castings, one cup Myke Flower mycorrhizae, 1 tablespoon of blackstrap molasses, and mixed it all with 20 liters of water. I pulsed it with a concrete mixer/drill periodically all day and left it overnight. The next day I diluted and watered, aiming for 10:1 water to tea. It was meant for my vegging plants and was a bit strong over time but I have since watered so all good, things dry out quick in this tent. I saw a bit lightening up top, and some fans drop underneath. Light is a 600watt Vivosun HPS setup. Following the advice from Hellishjam and BudXs 🇨🇦

Day 79 for FFT6. Two weeks of flowering complete, five weeks to go. What a stretch! Things look good. I have since watered and its time for more food. Early in the week it got 0-10-10 Alaska Morbloom with a popsicle stick dip of blackstrap molasses and Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag). So many of this tester generation look identical. Lights were just coming on so the heat was rising as I finished up

Day 86 for FFT6. Three weeks of flowering complete, four weeks to go. Moving along, these are fast flowering after all. At the beginning of the week I fed 0-50-30 Fox Farms Beastie Bloomz, with a popsicle stick dip of blackstrap molasses and Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag). I have since given water, and food will come around shortly. Not convinced I’ve cleared the mites. I’m impressed with their evolution. I sprayed potassium soap with a small amount of neem, trying to saturate everything minus the clear bud developing. I refuse to outright lose this crop! 🐒 Two things with temperature, I got a new thermometer which hasn’t been beat around and is accurate, second, my region has been experiencing a wicked heat wave that is even effecting the basement temps. This does not help the reemergence of pests.

Day 93 for FFT6, the sixth of the FastBuds photoperiod testers. Four weeks of flowering complete, three weeks to go. Progressing, buds are definitely dense under HPS. I’ve been able to just continue feedings in between waterings, 0-50-30 Fox Farms Beastie Bloomz and I add a popsicle stick dip of blackstrap molasses, and Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag). Last irrigation was water.

Day 100 for the sixth FastBuds photoperiod tester, FFT6. Five weeks of flowering complete, two weeks to go. Time is dwindling. I continued with the Fox Farms Beastie Bloomz, last irrigation was water, so I’ll squeeze one last feeding in tonight which will be 0-10-10 Alaska Morbloom with a popsicle stick dip of blackstrap molasses and Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag). Then it will be water, water, water.

Day 107 for FFT6, the sixth fast flower. Six weeks of flowering complete, one week to go. This is it! Almost there. I have put the ones with one week remaining outside to get some frost and heat relief. You can see that the sixth was clearly sativa, and wasn’t a big fan of the HPS conditions. I’m sure this week will be nice for it. Flushing away.

Week 18. Harvest

Happy Harvest Day!

FFT6 is the sixth photoperiod tester from FastBuds. I always like rereading before the harvest report as it acts like a time machine. FFT6 had a slow early life which includes my veg. tent adjustments and getting one of my LEDs fixed, as well as old soil amendment I no longer use like sheep manure. For this batch of testers at least I timed flowering really well when everything was healthy. Flowering was my first non-mite experience with HPS, not without much preventitive efforts. I was totally blown back by the heat of the HPS, and my region was in a perpetual heat wave all summer. This will change with house renovations, but this grow season was over the top hot, so all the plants were constantly stressed. FFT6 in particular showed it doesn’t really want extreme conditions, shown by a lack of swell/density but also in the poor bag appeal and crumbliness of the bud. I fully acknowledging cutting FFT6 early to supply my consumption so I will be fairly gentle in the flavour review. It was the least impressive of those finishing. I can’t expect a plant that was already weaker of its generation to surprise me especially when I harvest days early. The flavour would be light, its sort of herbal, classic, maybe a bit woody. I really have struggled to dry and cure to get to the real flavour. When I sampled GreenHouseLab’s version of FFT6 it was way better, but flavour was not the main highlight there, either. The effects are worth reporting, and this strain is for sure sativa. I really found this was a lovely strain to work with or focus on, really cerebral. Perfect for thinking intensely or doing an in-depth task. I normally don’t seek sativa but I was really appreciative of this one at times recently. It should be noted this was fully in the brain but not causing the severe eye pressure effects, not concussive. I’ll borrow a term from BudXs and label this FFT6 as producing utility weed. Important harvest in generating reliable and effective medicine, but not meant to impress or be top shelf. I’ll give it a 6.5/10, leaning towards 7. I’m trying to recall previous grows that I gave sevens, including some mite ridden plants but that at least had flavour. I’d feel bad steering people wrong with seven if it was just a subpar sativa, and its far from the strongest hitting. I still feel satisfied and feel it played an important role. No hard feelings and an enjoyable, smooth vape.

Harvest came nearing seven weeks of flowering and was on the early side. Did not take pre-harvest photos as it was after the last update. I tried to time with weather and placed FFT6 in my garage over night to avoid air humidity, and then cut very early morning. I wet trimmed and budwashed and then hang to dry. I was for sure dipping into the stock early out of necessity. Budwashing is two steps: 1) mixture of lemon juice, baking soda, and water, dip and swirl. 2) rinse in just water and then hang as usual.
