Starting another fast flowering photo period from Fastbuds. This is the ninth in the line, FFT9. This one is an indica and is to flower in seven weeks.
My previous grows (FFT1-5) were plagued with early low temperatures, and then just wasted sea of green failures. I am committed to doing better.
I germinated in a peat pod in a small cup of HP Pro Mix. My veg tent is 4’ x 4’ DIY construction. I have a 300 actual watt full spectrum LED and 1/6th of the same light, another 50 watts.
This is day 3, what else is there to say? Time to get at ‘er.
Day 11 for the ninth fast flowering photo period tester, FFT9. I am just giving water as it needs. I turned on my output ventilation, but everything seems fine temp wise.
Day 18 for this Fast Buds photoperiod tester, FFT9. Close call, I had no room and it was getting unhappy with the small germination container. I finally cleared space and here we are. I transplanted using 10 parts HP Pro Mix: 5 parts worm castings: 1 Part Fox Farms Happy Frog soil.
Day 25 for FFT9, the ninth FastBuds tester. Things are moving along now. The new container and soil have hit the mark. I have moved things into a new veg tent which has the lights hung higher, but there are two 300 actual watt full spectrum LEDs. I cut off any damaged or old leaves.
Day 32 for FFT9. Just before working the photos I trimmed all the leaves off, lets focus on keeping the space clear and growing straight up. I also fed with 24-8-16 All Purpose Miracle Grow Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag) just before photos. Looks a bit N clawed, but that would be fast, probably just wet and tired of being trimmed. I will watch closely and follow with water irrigation.
Day 39 for FFT9, the ninth of the Fastbuds testers. I’ve spent the week holding off on irrigation and only giving water when completely dry. I still need to mod this tent a bit because I think it gets chilly and this is slowing things down. Nice and green leaves.
Day 46 for FFT9. I wasn’t going to be able to pick up soil until the end of the week so I top dressed in lieu of. I went a little too much and got a bit burnt, but thats okay - used blood and bone meal, mineralized phosphate, worm castings, in a mix of HP Pro Mix. I did eventually get restocked and transplanted using a mix of 30 parts HP Pro Mix: 5 worm castings: 1 ASB Greenworld Sheep Manure Compost: 1 ASB Greenworld Black Earth: 1 ETI Greenhouse Gold Seafood Compost: 1 Green Gaia mineralized phosphate (guano): 1 alfalfa meal compost: 1 pulverized egg shells. After getting nagged by BudXs for my lazy ways, I did try to seal the top of my veg. tent a bit better, hoping to see a slight increase over the coming days as a result.
Day 53 for FFT9. Nutrients are becoming more and more available since I sealed the tent and things have gotten warmer. I’m riding excess and will continue to water and will flush if it comes to it. Since my flowering tent is getting eaten so badly I ordered some ladybugs and some went in here too for some background pest control. I’ll be developing a preventative pest routine from here on. The ladies are around but 24/7 lighting doesn’t help them. I still haven’t chopped any of the old damaged foliage off yet, no rush.
Day 60 for FFT9. Taa daa, things actually look good (no jinx). Warmer temps, plenty of air movement, lady bugs taking out some pests. I wanted to make sure I stay in good shape so I washed the plant down with Safer’s potassium based insecticide soap which I also think gets somewhat absorbed. Regardless, looks clean, looks healthy.
Day 65 for FFT9. The time has come for 12/12, going into flower. I was waiting on an Amazon order which has now been delayed, so I just treated with Safer’s Insecticide Soap again. I also cleaned out the HPS tent. Lights come on at night now which is a switch for me, I expect only a minimal temperature benefit in my basement. Last photo is the group in the new home with my flash on. The experts have spoken: no more defoliation.
Day 72 for FFT9. One week of flowering complete, six weeks remain. Everything looks good! Lots of stretch.
I applied neem oil mixed with potassium soap and water, doing a light spray focusing on the underside of the leaves. Just an extra prevent before the buds appear.
Immediately after the weekend last week I mixed a compost tea which steeped overnight. I took 2 cups blood and bone meal, 2 cups of alfalfa meal compost, 2 cups worm castings, one cup Myke Flower mycorrhizae, 1 tablespoon of blackstrap molasses, and mixed it all with 20 liters of water. I pulsed it with a concrete mixer/drill periodically all day and left it overnight. The next day I diluted and watered, aiming for 10:1 water to tea. Just on the verge of excess as the leaves are a bit thin and yellowed, but not too bad as it has already dried out and I’ve watered. Just growth.
My flowering light is a 600 Watt Vivosun HPS. In good hands with BudXs and Hellishjam supervising my plots.
Day 79 for FFT9. Two weeks of flowering complete, five weeks to go. As the rest, stretch, and looking good. Hard to distinguish many of the testers. Loving the health this time around. I have watered and will give more food soon, last feeding mid week was 0-10-10 Alaska Morbloom with a popsicle stick dip of blackstrap molasses and Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag). Lights were just coming on as I worked, and damn it got hot haha
Day 86 for FFT9. Three weeks of flowering complete. Four weeks of flowering to go. Ding ding ding, this is the winner FFT6 through FFT11 me thinks. Biggest bud of the group. Early in the week I fed 0-50-30 Fox Farms Beastie Bloomz with a popsicle stick dip of blackstrap molasses and Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag). I have given water, now will be back to food in the next day or two.
I can’t get over the total pest elimination hump with this batch. I treated the group yet again because of other plants and because I don’t want to lose this one, not because of a local infestation. The typical spray with potassium based soap and neem oil.
My temperature reporting is much different now that I replaced my beat up thermometer, plus I’m getting a bad heat wave that is even warming my basement. Its been bad
Day 93 for FFT9, the ninth of the FastBuds photoperiod testers. Four weeks of flowering complete, three weeks to go. Still my favourite based on instant swell and density, though others have quickly caught FFT9. Things dry out pretty quickly so I’m able to force feed and alternate with just water. Food continues to be 0-50-30 Fox Farms Beastie Bloomz, and I add a popsicle stick dip of blackstrap molasses. Last irrigation was water. Looking forward to closing this one out.
Day 100 for the ninth of the FastBuds, FFT9. Five weeks of flowering complete, two weeks of flowering remain. I’ve continued the Fox Farms Beastie Bloomz alternating with water until now, I’ll be able to get one last feeding in tonight. FFT9 will get one serving of 0-10-10 Alaska Morbloom with a popsicle stick dip of blackstrap molasses and Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag). This has been my lead dog in the FFT6 through FFT11 group. That crown is lovely. However, a new dark horse has emerged on the last corner...
Day 107 for FFT9, the ninth fast flower. Six weeks of flowering complete, only one week of flowering remains. What a beauty. Just pleasantly plump. I have placed the FastBuds testers with one week left outside to get some frost before the end. Just being out of a 35 degree Celsius HPS tent is a relief, let alone night time lows. Harvest approaches as I flush away.
Day 113 for FFT9. Seven weeks of flowering complete. This is the projected harvest! What a gem. I have been really flushing, and this is the advantage of being the last two (of their bunch). I’m imagining a rendition of the Styx song “Come Sail Away,” only every lyric about sailing away is replaced with “fade away.” Cutting this one down tomorrow morning after a projected chilly night. Look for an update soon! 😉
A Beans review for FFT9: the ninth of the FastBuds fast flowering photoperiod testers. Great experience overall and a strain that I will hang onto the last seed, if thats indication of quality and/or potential.
The grow predates my most latest normal, so I can see evidence of my previous amendment strategies, and I was still fine tuning my current veg. tent. The FastBuds testers were also the first batch that was run through HPS flowering (that did not have mites). All testers suffered with extreme heat, as I make adjustments including renovations.
The testers were grown as one main stalk to medium height, and with no training whatsoever.
What I like about FFT9 is that it did well in my environment(s), immediately upon flowering it was leading the pack with stacking buds. Density was quick to follow and before any other plant I had golf ball nugs spotted up to a massive main crown. To borrow a classic from user ButtersStotch, and others, it produced a donkey.
I would say only some benefits to moving the plant outdoors to finish up (in a cold and dry northern climate). It did frost up and improve in that last week, but not as much progress as others. Trichomes were not necessarily popping. I will note as I build my bud stock that I cut at seven weeks, the exact projection from FastBuds. More gains likely could have been made.
The effects are good indica, makes you relaxed and sleepy, you feel it stronger and stronger with bowls (and I vape alot of bowls 🐒). Because of the indica quality I do find my mind stays fairly clear though, I’m in a good mood and can focus, but that constant indica weight is there. The flavours are complex and interesting - a nutty overtone with some fuel mixed in, but ultimately herb. I have yet to encounter a peanut flavoured weed and this most certainly is the aroma that the button suggests. I am surprised how it blends with the fuel and the aftertaste. I definitely like the smells and flavours, they are intriguing, but they aren’t in league of the over the top berry or pungent strains.
I will speak highly of this strain, it was a pleasure to grow. As I update other diaries FFT9 is a nice signal for the end of summer ☀️ I will grow FFT9 again and have preserved the last seed. It is a strong entry and I would label as a 8.5/10. It only slightly bows out on flavour, and I was surprised by how little progress was made when I significantly reduced temperatures outside. I also chose not to clone and I can’t give any strain a 10/10 unless it is easy to clone and makes it into regular rotation.
Just a typical harvest for FFT9. Tried to time it with cold, dry weather but that can only be controlled so much. Cut during dark period. My harvest process is the same everytime including budwash. First wet trim.
First container: I briefly agitate and swirl the trimmed bud in a container of lemon juice concentrate, baking soda, and water.
Second container: rinse the bud with water, then hang to dry.
