Everything with this grow came together faster than expected but nonetheless it all worked out in the end.
Seeds were collected from a bad batch of medical cannabis. I mean bad batch because it produced seeds but originally strain was a favourite from that LP.
Used the wet single sheet of paper towel to germinate. Placed 5 seeds per sheet/ziplock then placed ziplocks in a cool basement in a dark area for 30+ hours.
Didn't get pictures of the popped seeds but all 10 did pop. Using Jiffy Pellets to start seedlings in as this does a good job at not having to worry about adding nutrients for the first week or until they are put into solo cups.
Within a few days after placing in the humidity dome, you could see sprouts on all 10 seedlings. Was adding un Ph tap water to the bottom of the tray every 1 to 2 days.
At weeks end, the majority had to be placed into solo cups as the roots were showing through the bottom of the Jiffy Pellets. This go around started the seedlings in ProMix.
Probably the most exciting stage is seeing green. It's exciting to see life start to happen.
Even though all 10 seeds are the same breed they are different in phenotypes which you can see and will notice the differences in growths.
Cocoa Coir is the preferred medium of choice, this time started in simple ProMix which was nice not having to add nutrients this early in life.
1 new light came in. At this point, using 1 SF1000 and 1 SF2000.
Mid week had to transport seedlings to other grow space for legal reasons. Grow space was smaller and used a CFM light.
By weeks end they were nice and healthy. Feeding was once every few days with just tap water Ph between 6.00 - 6.10
This week was at the other grow space and unfortunately not as up to date in the journal. So not much to display for pics this week.
Was a good week in general. Seedlings were growing nice and healthy under the CFM light.
By weeks end they were ready to transplant to 1 Gal pots.
TRANSPLANT!!! Big fan of transplanting. When you have too big of a pot for the current size of the plant, it can be harder to water correctly leaving more room for error.
Medium is Canna Cocoa bricks mixed with Perlite. Aimed for a 60/40 ratio.
Exciting but challenging week as we were able to move 4 plants back to the main grow space. Clone we were unable to save which timing was worked perfectly for this grow.
Plants #1, #2, $6, and #8 were brought back to the main grow space.
This week was the first introduction to the Remo nutrient lineup. After some calculations first feed was 2ml per 500ml of water Ph between 6.00 and 6.10. Mixing nutrients in any particular order is not necessary with Remo nutrients as all their nutrients are chelated meaning they are absorbed by the plant easier. For peace of mind, mixed nutrients in order but again Remo says this is not required.
Through mid week, noticed some drooping happening in both spaces. Both spaces now had Spider Farmer lights and it took the plants some adjusting from CMH to LED.
Recovery week. Took a few days before they got used to the new lights and the new environment but once they did WOW!
By mid week the leaves were already starting to rise and the new foliage was coming in nice and green. It was only 2-3 days in the new environment and a few nutrient feedings and already could see improvement.
This week was a 1 feed of nutrients and 3 feeds of water. For the nute feed it was 4ml in 1L of water Ph between 6.00-6.10. The water feeds were tap water Ph between 6.00 - 6.10 in Cocoa found that this Ph range works the best.
Near the end of the week early signs of heat stress were setting showing.
**Spider Farmer lights give off a good amount of heat.
This week was major over watered. Nutrient feed this week consisted of full strength 6ml in 1G of water which again was Ph between 6.0 and 6.10 I used this feed throughout the week and made sure to check Ph before feeding. At this point I did not have a ppm pen which I currently have now.
Transplant to 3g -----> LOVE TRANSPLANTING!! Gives you a chance to check the root ball, you don't want to your girls to be root bound. The right size pot for the plant is crucial for a plant to remain healthy its entire life cycle.
Using a tote works great for mixing the Cocoa Coir bricks in.
Transplant went well and root mass looked awesome! You don't want to see your roots wrapped around a million times as that is what is referred to as root bound. I could have transplanted sooner as there was some wrapping of roots.
Hard time getting feeding under control. Each plant started to absorb its own different amount each feeding. Mid to end of the week clear signs of overwatering and again was battling the heat issue caused by the lights.
Deficiencies were starting to show.
This week finally got a solid feeding schedule. Each plant was absorbing a different amount by the end of the week.
At the end of the week the girls got the final transplant into their flower 5G pots. It was exactly 13 days between transplants which should have been stretched longer but needed to get the girls into flower as they were growing fast.
Set up a not so great ScrOG net that in the end would not recommend using one that you can't cut apart when harvesting.
Originally planned to flip to flower in another week but they were getting big so decided it was time and good thing. Flipped Mid week
**Gradually changed the lights every day by a half hour up to flower day.
On most days feeding was twice a day and was finding the girls were happier - 8ml in 4000ml Ph between 6.00 - 6.10 ---->2000ml ea.
Did some minor LST to move some bud sites under light. Should never use bread ties as they can do some damage.
Even though they are all the same strain, each phenotype will be different. This is why it might be a good idea to get 2 lights equaling the same coverage of a large light. This allows you to raise the lights accordingly. Sometime a 5G bucket comes in handy as well.
This week you could see the bud sites starting to really show :)
Did some heavy defoliation but again you can't tell by the pictures
Pheno #1 and #2 were growing so tall and were stretching every day it was hard to get the lights any higher. Soon they won't be able to go any higher.
Feeding schedule stayed constant for most of the grow. See previous weeks
Started and ended the week with defoliating. Needed to get better airflow to the lower, inner bud sites.
Bud sites were really starting to show white hairs.
Still stretching and by weeks end was out of room to raise the light and broke off a top cola :(
This was a rough week fighting the massive growth stretches, especially pheno #2.
Bud sites were stacking nicely :) It's a jungle of colas
Started a one feed a day (Ph between 6.00 - 6.10)
Pheno #1 - 8ml in 3500ml
Pheno #2 - 8ml in 3500ml
Pheno #6 - 8ml in 2000ml
Pheno #8 - 8ml in 3000ml
Besides the top coals getting heat stress it was a good week :)
Raised the nutrients levels this week to 10ml each except for MagnifiCal. Midway through flower they don't require these nutrients thus you'll begin to see the colour changes in the leaves.
Was completely out of room to raise the lights which resulted in doing some emergency supercropping. A bit late in flowering to be performing this technique but their was no other option
Some light defoliation throughout the week. Don't want bud site to be covered
At this stage and after dealing with such tall plants in such a small area it was getting more and more difficult to get around each plant. Thus making it very hard to spot any deficiencies such as mold and rot. The colas that were up close to the light were starting to show signs that they were going to get some light/heat damage as the leaves were getting fried.
With all the supercropping, made some make shift crutches to help support each bend. Duct tape was also used to support each bend.
The colas were starting to frosty up this week and it was very exciting to see
Good week with the only issues being the plants being too close to the light. Nothing could be done at this point just hope for the best.
This was the last week for nutrients and then the flush begins.
This week was the start of the flush. After some research and debating on the subject, decided to flush all plants but #8. Wanted to get our own conclusions as to whether or not flushing is necessary. Excited to see the results.
Plant #1 - 3500ml water Ph between 6.00 - 6.10
Plant #2 - 3500ml water Ph between 6.00 - 6.10
Plant #6 - 2000ml water Ph between 6.00 - 6.10
Plant #8 - 8ml in 3000ml water Ph between 6.00 - 6.10
Busted out the professional macro camera to check the trichomes. Thanks to a family member for helping out, but I am unable to post any pictures taken sorry all
Exciting week seeing all trichomes everywhere!! At weeks end was still showing all clear trichomes. Got an early sample :)
Nothing much happened this week. Flushed once a day except for #8, she was still getting 8ml feeds once per day.
This week lots of milky trichomes but no amber yet.
it was easy to tell #8 was still being fed as it was more green than the others. #6, the mutant, was looking nice but the nugs were more airy which was probably due to it being further away from the light than the rest.
The fall colours were really starting to show this week. Would have thought it would be harvest time soon but a 1 more week to go. At this point there was not much for a smell? Not sure why the smell went away
WOW 11 weeks into flowering and they still could go more. No amber yet but it was decided that it was time to harvest by weeks end.
#8 was fed all the way up to harvest and you could definitely tell. Very curious though as to how it smokes.
Was a very long but fun and exciting grow 😃 😎 👌
Like always learned a ton and how to do things differently to improve the next grow.
For a bag seed grow it turned out great! The only issue was the massive growth stretch that seemed to be happening into late flower stage. After doing some research, found that the LP discontinued this strain because it was growing too tall and unpredictably. It makes it hard to get in and around your plants inside the tent.
Definitely a good choice going with 2 lights of equal coverage rather than 1 large light. Plants will be different heights and with 2 lights it was easier to get the light coverage needed. The lights do give off an exceptional amount of heat if you decide to make a purchase.
Grow Diaries makes it easy to document your progress through each week and will be using this for more future grows.
So close! and looking great!
You could try bending the tallest colas down a bit to avoid the heat/light stress on the top buds assuming you can't raise your lights any further. On my last grow I experienced something similar and most of the top buds had their trichomes crisped. Good luck for the big harvest 👍
@HazeyBobby, Thanks!!
Tried a few different techniques ended up super-cropping which helped but the stretch almost seemed endless. This grow was actually harvested back in March 👍👌
...strange thing...I wrote the same thing today in one of my diaries..seeing life emerging is the most exciting part of the grow...good luck my friend🤞✌️🌱
