Got this single seed in a rec store purchase of an eight. All of the research I’ve done says it’s the Triangle Kush x Animal Mints variety, so I’m excited to see how it compares to the other Wedding Cake pheno I have that is supposedly from J-Beezy of Seed Junky. I also have diaries for Alaskan Purple and White Widow from Seedsman.

Here we go! Canna Organix version of Wedding Cake. Funny that his seedling had the same thing as all my others, where the seed casing ripped off part of the leaves. Not too worried though. Sure it will be fine.

Looking good. Excited to see how this grower’s genetics plays out against the other Wedding Cake strain from another grower!

Day 17 First feed... Starting to look stronger and more uniform than the Lifted strain. Day 20 Emergency transplant! Ever heard of biosolids? I hadn’t. F#@k that shit. Too many unanswered questions and lack of information. I’m out. Back in organic soil. Fingers crossed 🤞

Day 21 After yesterday’s emergency bare root transplant out of biosolids, things are looking like there’s a glimmer of hope... They got topped and pruned yesterday. a little earlier than I would have liked, but it made sense. Day 23 Transplanted again down to 2 gallon pots to make room for another round I started. I decided to cut the fan leaves, too. These have been pruned and topped down to nothing but the emerging foilage from the 3rd and 4th nodes. My thinking is that the root system is so compromised that the less foliage they have to feed, the better. Fed some General Organics Bio Root 0-1-1 to promote root growth. Light mnist of pH’d water for foilar feeding. Day 25 I think the Bio Root and the shade is doing them good 🤞Time will tell. If these come back strong, I’ll move them into 15 gallon living soil bags.

Finally on the go! This strain is really coming back strong. They’re just getting regular water with no pH adjustment. Bubbling tap water for 24 hours. Going with the living soil thing. We will see. Looks good so far. Will probably transplant to my 15 gallon bags and my super soil mix this week as roots are starting to show on the bottom holes. Excited to see how these go!

I Transplanted to 15 gallon bags in the middle of the week last week. They’re in the super soil mix I made and have been fermenting for a month now! Added some great white to the soil where transplanted. Been a few days and they love it. Still feeding regular tap water bubbled overnight.

Prime time growing right now. I think the combo of the weather and the roots reaching the super soil has inspired some vigorous growth. Definitely noticed some thrip an/or leaf hopper damage. I’ve spotted 4 thrips and 2 leaf hoppers across all of the plants this week, although the overall damage throughout the greenhouse would suggest that there are more (even still, the damage is not that bad. Limited to a leaf or two on 4 plants. Fed them a bunch of beneficial nematodes and did 2 nights of spinosad followed by three nights of neem, and then one more night of spinosad. Hopefully that gets things back in check. I’ll be feeding a compost tea tomorrow morning. Removed some of the straw top covering since the weather has cooled back down.

I was under watering quite a bit in an attempt to make sure I didn’t flush out the benes and nutrients of the super soil. Ironically, I might have killed all the benes. Lol. Either way, they’re getting about 2.5 gal every other day now. Growing strong. This has been my strongest plant. At the beginning, I wasn’t very stoked on its structure, but I have to say, this is looking like it will be one heavy producer... It’s growing so much Just did another spinosad treatment. This one never really had any damage from thrips, but I haven’t seen any more thrips in the greenhouse since the first treatment 10 or so days ago. Saw a leaf hopper in there though 😡

All plants are responding well to the increase in water. I’m up to 2.5 gallons with this one every 2-3 days, depending on weather. It’s definitely starting to cool off and the days are getting shorter... About half an hour less light each week. Probably about 3 weeks before solid 12/12 This strain of Wedding Cake is starting to flower. It’s starting to form bud sites and s few pistils.

Early in the week I did an AACT tea. I didn’t know what I was doing (still don’t, but I’m learning). I most likely made it too complex and put every amendment I had on hand in the bag. Not sure of whether it had any microbial benefits or effect. I followed that up with another nematode watering and I can definitely say it has had a major effect. Between the nematodes and the yellow sticky traps, there’s hardly a fungus gnat to be seen. I topdressed yesterday with a mix of super soil, powdered oats, high P seabird guano, EWC, azomite, humic acid, alfalfa meal, and kelp meal. This is starting to look a little starved. I also think it may be root bound. The AACT is really just a bacterial and microbial introduction. I won’t make it so complex next time. Just EWC and molasses from here on out. The topdress will probably take a little bit to break down, so I‘ll do a simple nutrient tea with alfalfa or fish hydrolysate in the next couple days. Hopefully that helps out. Other than that, it looks pretty good. I’m interested to see how this one fills out.

This strain of wedding cake is taller and more stretched out than the other variety I have grown. Interested to see how these flowers stack up. Looking good. Did a wee bit of defoliation and additional LST to spread it out some. Did a feed with Neptune’s Harvest Fish and Kelp Hydrolysate 2-3-1 at beginning of the week, straight water mid week and ended with a Neptune’s Harvest Fish Hydrolysate 2-4-1. This is on top of the P heavy phosphorus top dressing I added a couple weeks ago that is definitely starting to break down.

Posting these a bit late. I developed a bit of a fungus gnat issue that I think got a bit out of control and the larva were definitely stunting all the plants, some more than others. This one was definitely the worst. It was looking/acting like it was underfed and underwater. I thought maybe root aphids, but after scoping the soil I couldn’t find any RA, but did see some FG larva. I did a nematode release and OG Biowar Foliar Pack the next week. I’ll post results in the next week.

This one is hanging in there. The leaves have been yellow and sickly for weeks on end. I think it got ravaged by RA. Under control now, sugar leaves are green, buds seem to be fattening up. Considering it’s only 5 weeks into flower, I think it’s fine. I do have to say, I like the genetics of the other Wedding Cake strain that I’m growin. This one seems to have quite a bit higher leaf to calyx ratio. But the trichome production is on par wiht the other strain...

This one has been weird, but It’s trucking along. Never grown this strain by this particular breeder, so I’m just going with the flow. No idea, but I’d say 14 days or so to go...

Do you plan on giving this plant the 4-way LST treatment? I’m very interested you see the results of this Wedding Cake grown outdoors and LST’ed. WC is my next planned grow (indoors, 3x3 tent), I hope this lady gets you some great smoke!

@jahredi, right on, I’m cheering for you and your lady! Can’t wait to watch your progress. I’m currently in week 3 flowering a Universal Kush plant indoors, 4-way’d and have eight colas. First grow!

@Raptor7, I’m not sure! I ended up with the severe pruning from a sketchy transplant. I just cut them way back so the roots i destroyed wouldn’t have to try and feed so much foliage. I am set up for a 4 way LST though! I have three plants that I pruned like this, including another wedding cake variety from a different grower, which I grew outdoor last year with great success. I’m just going to go with the flow and play it day by day... I have a 10x6x6 hoop house and I’ll need to finish 4 photos in it, so I’ll be doing something!

Looking great! What are we looking at in your “no bueno” pic? I see a vertical line running up a stem, what happened?
jahredi
jahredicommented5 years ago
@Raptor7, I’m not totally sure... But there was a spider posted up there, which made me think that he was snacking on whatever pests made that... If you look at the leaf in the foreground, it’s pretty well munched too. I did another spinosad treatment and haven’t noticed it get any worse. Hopefully it was just something minor and it’s sorted. My biggest worry is that it was some sort of burrowing pest. But I’m probably being irrational lol 🤞

I see you went with the 4-way? Looking good so far, hope you win the war on insects soon! New greenhouse layout looks clean, pleases my OCD lol. Very excited to follow her diary through flowering!

@Raptor7, haha. I rearrange it too much lol. But I like the large photos on one side and cute little autos on the other for now. Will be interesting to see how it all fits after the stretch 🙏 Not sure I’ll top/prune next year. We will see. In general, this wedding cake strain I have produces a ton of bud sites on a very solid and stout structure. The pruning and LST just adds more work that I don’t think adds that much more weight. I kinda feel like the whole topping/pruning approach is heard more towards dealing with limited space 🤔

Thank you for breaking down exactly what your top dressing composition is, helps point me down the Google rabbit hole researching for a few hours ;) Looking great, I think you’ll have great results. If not, you have a great learning event to make you better. Please include a tasting notes update after the dry/cure, I’ll be growing Wedding Cake very soon!
