While the Star Dawg is curing. I have started the next project. I want to give Barney's a second try, especially for being so generous to me with seeds. This time a femenized cannabis strain! It has been so long! The seed popped in 2 DAYS! And she is looking healthy and strong! Very nice start!
I have about 120CM of grow space height, so I am going to do my first topping, and flip around 30CM, so if she tripples in heigh, that will leave 30CM left to play with from the lights.
Grew very fast and long, so I pulled the dirt up, and lowered the light...I found her on the floor one morning because the top was too heavy for her skinny body. I am using that twisty tie as a support to keep her up, she rebounded same day, and is now thicker stalk! I can take the tie off but will keep it just in case it gets top heavy.
I do plan to use TOPPING. It is my first time so wish me luck. I am waiting for when she has about 5 nodes, then I will top.
NEW stuff: Transplanted into the final destination. I am using a soil of home collected worm castings, banana peels, and biobizz light mix. I have liquids on hand incase.

In personal news: I can feel a difference between growing an auto and a femenized, a kind of way the seedling looks and "feels". It is interesting to get back to a femenized strain after practicing on nothing but autos on the last 3 grows.
TOPPING TIME!
I cut the 5th node. She bounced back immediatly and growth still pushing up and. That said, Yeah, I am so used to Auto's now, I am not used to her being so short and in small time vegitave state still...But it is ok, I am not rushing.
About mid week after topping and seeing her bounce back so fast, but she had a day of a delay yesterday, I fed her with nutes this morning to give any boost in nutrients to get those two new main colas energy boost. So far so good.
Oh yeah! And even at this small, her leaves smell of that dank cannabis smell.... I miss that! She will probably be a stinker :p
Not much to report on. Shes growing after being topped...slow n easy.
I tied down the two new main colas, and the third mutant one is free flapping in the wind. XD Shes bent back and all her branches are pouring out over to the empty side of the pot. EXACTLY how I wanted, now all I want is the two new colas to wrap around the pot, hit 30CM, then I am flipping to flower. I guess 2 weeks min.

Watching her grow solid. She's at 20cm. I will flip at 30cm.... See how it goes.
End of the week, she has pushed out horizontally, and allowing me to pull her into the form I desire. SO I am VERY happy with her genetic at the moment. Grows steady, strong, and very trainable. This is probably the most controlled and "how I imagined" grow I have done to day!
I think I will always top from here on out!
Flip week. I will be hooking up the led and putting her to bed early tonight. Flower time.
I have abotu 120 CM of free space. She is 22CM ish with LST...I wanted 30 CM veg plant becuase if she doubled in height, I'd be ok, I also topped to get this , but so far she grows more horizotal than verticial and 8 weeks veg already it is taking long. to count on pushing up, but her bud sites are all over, so if I flip low, I think she will produce a lot and keep a low profile so I am all in for flipping tonight!
She grew very round and bushy. Responding great to LST. A little slow on the vertical growth (I am not at all worried, saves me head space,). I wanted to flip at 30CM, becaause I can manage triple the head space...but she is growing out more than up, and it has been over 8 weeks veg, this is insane veg time for me, so I flipped when she was in 25 CM range.
She is growing vertical now after about 3 days in flip to flower.
I removed a lot of unecessary under growth and some fan leaves blocking from the top.
Had a heat wave, but we made it through fine. Everything looks great to me. I pick at least 2 leaves abuot every other day to expose more sites. I enjoy seeing the buddlings, the flowering has started! I am still very shocked at how short she is due to topping
Going great. I SEE BABY TRICHOMES WEEK 2 FLOWER! And she looks like week 6! I manually check lights in and off so I know she wasn't getting less light. You can see the three last veg days those are veg stages still. I noticed Barney LSD I grew had a VERY FAST flowering stage, but it was an auto. And it was short. This is the second Barney I have that is short and very fast flower so perhaps it's related to the genetics they use.
I also notice I got thripes. I hate them. I had them once before, and mistook it for mold. They always appear when the plant hits about 25cm. We had a heat wave so I know why they are here. I am using a daily soap and wash and dry when it gets bad. Lost big leaves already ...
I cured my Thripe problem with garlic and water in a spray bottle. I was literally picking larvae off my leaves! but after 4 days of garlic water the leaf damage stopped and I see no more bugs.
So far so good, she does not look like a week 4 flower!!! 😋
Well...not a good week... I had a air filter fall on the plant, and break 4 branches. 2 were small so I jsut put up to dry and puff on.
One was twisted around on its end of stem, I gently taped it back up and is propped up by a can. I also have a good nug on a good branch come half way off, so tapped and tied it back up. ughhh so sad, but all in all the rest is going fine and the odors are amazing.
As you can see there are orange hairs now too
Mid week update: doing good. I was seeing thripe larvae so I quite the garlic treatment for argoflash black soap and olive oil spray. I just spray a napkin and wash down leaves with damp napkin. Avoiding flower as much as possible.
End Week: Well. The garlic didnt work that much, so I got ARGOFLASH SAVOIN NOIR (blackk soap and vegitable oil). It had immediate results. I saw no bugs next day, and just 1 all week, (i wont reapply until I see more). The buds seem to be doing just fine. Smell is strong. They nearly 50% orange. I seemed to have been weeks ahead at first, but now she seems to be slowing down, and no doubt because of that filter breaking her and leaves coming off from bugs, so shes taking a stress break and will be back growing strong next week I hope :)
After one day of Argoflash Savoin noire, I never have seen a return of the bugs. I took off some leaves that were dead and dried (usually small leafs under belly), and some top leaves that had been bit and infected or spots or a finger drooping for who knows why (possibly bugs). I did throw a lady bug in the tent, but never saw her again. Seems to be growing fine. Just slowly turning orange and putting on trichomes and putting on some weight. I am just hopping for a 3-4 week tops finish.
** End of week update*** This week was very normal. I don't see too much difference from week start to end, yes, a tad more fat and juicy, and a more trichome production and more stink ehehe (she smells GREAT)! This is week 6, going into 7, I really hope I can harvest ni 3-4 weeks. I would like to cure and dry through october and november for Christmas treat ehehhe.
So far I see no signs of the bugs returning. Everything going great. She seems to be putting on more weight and focusing on trichomes.
**Fun time story: I was picking up some dead leaf material, and saw this bright gean material on the soil. I got it and heard SNAP between the fingers. I look and its a root with a small two leaves popping out...and a micro tiny mini leaf coming out.... I don't know if its weed. If it is...I have no idea how a baby started ... I think its maybe just a grass grain in the soil... I don't know...I repotted it, and hope it lives to grow. So far it survived Two days...***
I didn't upload last weeks end photos, but honestly, not much has changed.
The bugs are gone. Some scraggler leaves dead. Buds are doing nothing but fattening, stinking, and packing trichs, so I am happy. She does have wierd decay on some leaves, Hard to tell if it is a new deficiency or if the old bug bites finally let infection in. It seems to noly effect the most beat up leaves, the rest are OK.
I noticed the clawing, I think it is due to wind burn, I can't help it, I need the full blast fans she is on because it discourages bugs, and my grow space is super packed, so ...it is not extreme, so I can handle it, and doesn't seem to be stressing her too much, besides, at this point, if anything goes wrong, I can harvest early and still have something after cure.
Cut and hanging to dry. Me pre review before final smoke report which we might not see until end of October.
+ Easy grow. Very strong root system and she was responsive to LST and had no diseases or problems other than bugs that come out only during high temperatures (mites) and we had several weeks of heat waves.
+ smells great! I can smell and taste on the fresh buds I vaped, the strawberry hints. It lives up to the name so far.
+ Very strong genetics. I had a filter fall on the plant, and break 2 branches and one was just hanging on by a thread...that thread continued to feed the branch and made a nice looking nug! So she is VERY resistant to abuse.
- Negatives: She did not adapt to topping. After topping, she grew not two, but a third main head...was really wierd (not a bad thing), but she also refused to grow vertical. Three weeks post topping and she did not move taller than 30CM. Ic ould possibly have stayed in veg longer but I did not want to wait for the end of the year to harvest, so I was forced to flip at 30 CM. Her stretch was short (only 5CM) total of 35cm. Which means:
- LOW YIELD. This is odd, because this strain got a reward for highest yield. I have seen other pictures and she can be topped and grown very large. So perhaps that means she didnt like my LEDs perhaps or she is picky on the soil type.
This is my first time topping and I am amazed at how low and bushy she stayed, it helps calm stress since I am in a stealth grow, and over grown plants are hard to handle. Large plants hard to water. This turned out nice. I enjoyed the bud structure and after two.5 weeks cure, she is very nice smoke. The taste and effects is as close as to what I search for. So of all my grows, I would definatly regrow this one.
