Started 6-29-20 - 1lb NLS autoflower soil mixed with Happy Frog in lower 1/3 of 5 gallon pot then filled rest of pot with Happy Frog. 18/6 light at 7000 lux. Soaked seeds approx. 18 hours until they dropped to bottom of cup, one seed cracked open, the other did not. Planted seeds 1/2" deep, root point down and loosely covered with soil.
7-6-20 decreasing RH to 72% and will continue to decrease every few days as we get closer to veg. All other environmental conditions remain the same however light lx will need to be increased when we hit veg.
Both plants are looking good. The Zkittlez plant has had some slight discoloration but so far I have not tried to diagnose or treat it. Going to see if it corrects itself as it matures but I'm keeping a close eye on it.
Both plants are showing pistils so I switching this weeks status from veg to flower. I will be reducing the RH a couple of % each day until I get it below 55% to prevent fungus, mold, etc. during flowering. Will also continue to slowly lower the lights until I get it in the 45k-65k lx range. One plant is still showing signs of a deficiency but not sure what it is. It looks reasonably healthy so I am continuing the waiting game of giving it time to balance itself out. LST seems to be going really well on the larger plant but slow on the smaller one simply because it isn't growing as fast and hasn't need much training yet.
LST is going really well on one plant and I abandoned ship on the other. The smaller plant is still growing slow so I decided to remove the few lst ties that I had and it is growing with no training now.
So far it has been the tale of two plants. They are different strains and the difference may just be genetics but one plant is clearly ahead of the other as far as growth/flowering is concerned. I've had a hard time keeping humidity and temp down to where I would like since it is summer. Temps have been averaging in the 82-84 range and humidity has been in the upper 50s to low 60s. I have a nice dehumidifier but unfortunately that causes the temps to rise even higher since it puts out so much heat when in operation. When buds really start to fatten up I am going to have to figure out a way to get the RH lower than it has been up to this point in order to prevent fungus, mold, etc.
Everything is still going reasonably well. The skittlez plant is losing fan leaves like crazy but the sugar leaves and bud sites look good so I am going to keep letting it ride. It has some brown leaf tips here and there which suggests possible nute burn, however, I am using living soil so I can't exactly decrease the nute level. It also has some hair that are beginning to darken so things are progressing nicely for only being on day 50. The alaskan purple plant has really hit its stride and is now the larger, healthier looking of the plants although it is definitely a week or two behind the other plant so I am sure I will be harvesting it last.
Moving right along, no big issues this past week. Fan leaves continue to drop like crazy from the Skittlez and I am seeing a small amount of yellowing on the lowest fan leaves on the Alaskan Purple. I continue to be as hands off as possible and let nature take its course. I am firmly in the "less is more" camp. K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stoney!
Things are still going good. I continue to be very hands off and let the plants do their thing. For the most part I have not been removing dead fan leaves until they actually fall off. The Zkittlez is probably 2 weeks or less away from harvest and the Alaskan Purple appears to have about a month left.
Sorry I skipped updating the journal for the past week or so. Things have been going well, I have just been lazy on updates. I harvest the Zkittlez plant a week ago and will be making a separate post about that. So, I am down to the Alaskan Purple now. Looks like it probably has about 2 weeks left. Fan leaves are dropping like crazy now and the buds are looks really fat.
I haven't sampled any of it yet so no trip to report. Harvested at day 78 from seed, dried for 5 days until smallest branches snapped when bent. Not curing in glass jars. Total weight was a little on the low side but better than last grow so that is an improvement. Also, this one went fast, from seed to harvest in 78 days. Not sure what is up with that but I assume the short life cycle also contributed to less than ideal yields. All in all it was fun to grow and although I haven't sampled it yet, I would recommend this strain based solely on the growing experience.
Buds continue to mature and fan leaves continue to die. Looks like harvest may be 1-2 weeks away. Still watering about every 4 days with dechlorinated tap water and use molasses occasionally.
8-17-20 watered approx 1.5gal between the two plants. No molasses again but I believe I will use it next time. Also watered with de-chlorinated tap water this time instead of distilled water.
8-13-20 watered approx 1.5gal between the two plants. No molasses again. Fan leaves on the larger plant are continuing to yellow and die but the rest of the plant looks great so just gonna let it ride. The smaller plant just doesn't look that healthy but I've found some other grow journals for the same strain and breeder and they don't look great either so I assume it's just genetics?
8-9-20 watered approx 1.25 gallons until slight runoff from both plants. No molasses this time. I checked the runoff PH and it was 4.5 which is super low but I am not sure my PH meter is accurate at the moment. I guess it could also be low due to using molasses the last 2 waterings as molasses supposedly lowers PH? The plants look healthy except the larger plant that is further along in flowering is starting to have lower fans leaves yellow and die off. It seems like this is a normal part of flowering and the bud sites look really healthy so I'm not worried about it right now.
8-5-20 watered 1 gallon with 1 tbsp molasses between both plants. The slow plant is still slow. It is getting bigger/bushier but still appears to be stuck in pre-flower, very few hairs on it and pretty much zero bud development. The other plant is looking great and has buds growing like crazy.
8-1-20 watered 1 gallon between both plants and used 1 tbsp of unsulphered molasses this time. It left some "sticky" spots on some of the leaves but so far they don't appear to be harming the plants. I am continuing to reduce RH until I get it below 55% which is where it will stay through the rest of the grow. Not sure yet whether or not I will need to use a dehumidifier so stay tuned.
