Week 1
Germinated well. Went into a super soil mix I made as I switch to a living soil process. Excited to see how it goes! come on GCS, do me good here 🙏
They’re just getting regular water with no pH adjustment. Bubbling tap water for 24 hours. Going with the living/super soil thing. Bottom half of 5 gal bag is super soil, top half is the organic soil base. We will see. Looks good so far.
Regular water with no pH adjustment. Bubbling tap water for 24 hours. Going with the living/super soil thing. Bottom half of 5 gal bag is super soil, top half is the organic soil base. We will see. Looks good so far, minus the damage from the bug that snaked on it.
Doing what plants do...
Top layer drying out too quick. Microbiological activity seems to be tapering off. Adding straw to keep soil from drying out too quick.
Prime time growing right now. I think the combo of the weather and the roots reaching the super soil has inspired some vigorous growth.
Definitely noticed some thrip an/or leaf hopper damage. I’ve spotted 4 thrips and 2 leaf hoppers across all of the plants this week, although the overall damage throughout the greenhouse would suggest that there are more (even still, the damage is not that bad. Limited to a leaf or two on 4 plants.
Fed them a bunch of beneficial nematodes and did 2 nights of spinosad followed by three nights of neem, and then one more night of spinosad. Hopefully that gets things back in check.
I’ll be feeding a compost tea tomorrow morning.
Also, removed some of the straw top covering since the weather has cooled back down to low 70s.
I was under watering quite a bit in an attempt to make sure I didn’t flush out the benes and nutrients of the super soil. Ironically, I might have killed all the benes. Lol.
Either way, they’re getting about 1 gal every other day now. Growing strong.
This plant got some of the most thrip damage.
Just did another spinosad treatment. I haven’t seen any more thrips in the greenhouse since the first treatment 10 or so days ago. Saw a leaf hopper in there though 😡
All plants are responding well to the increase in water. I’m up to 1.25 gallon with this one every 2-3 days, depending on weather. It’s definitely starting to cool off and the days are getting shorter... About half an hour less light each week. It’s officially underway. I added some top dressing amendments, high P seabird guano, a little neem meal, azomite, and some EWC
Early in the week I did an AACT tea. I didn’t know what I was doing (still don’t, but I’m learning). I most likely made it too complex and put every amendment I had on hand in the bag. Not sure of whether it had any microbial benefits or effect.
I followed that up with another nematode watering and I can definitely say it has had a major effect. Between the nematodes and the yellow sticky traps, there’s hardly a fungus gnat to be seen.
I topdressed yesterday with a mix of super soil, powdered oats, high P seabird guano, EWC, azomite, humic acid, alfalfa meal, and kelp meal.
This one (and two other autos) is looking like it needs feed. The AACT is really just a bacterial introduction. I won’t make it so complex next time. Just EWC and molasses from here on out. The topdress will probably take a little bit to break down, so I‘ll do a simple nutrient tea with alfalfa or fish hydrolysate in the next couple days. Hopefully that helps out. Other than that, it looks pretty good. Seems slow, but I suspect that is the feed.
I starved this one in particular by accident. It’s definitely turned around since the top dressing and Neptune’s Harvest feeds. Hopefully, these bud sites will fatten up, stack up and connect.
Did a feed with Neptune’s Harvest Fish and Kelp Hydrolysate 2-3-1 at beginning of the week, straight water mid week and ended with a Neptune’s Harvest Fish Hydrolysate 2-4-1. This is on top of the P heavy phosphorus top dressing I added a couple weeks ago that is definitely starting to break down.
Alternating fresh water and 1 Tbs of King Neptune’s Fish Hydrolysate per gallon. Pushing along. Buds are thickening up, but not really stacking up. The only other sativa dominate plant I grew (Blue Dream’Matic) seemed to have a similar structure.
Posting these a bit late. I developed a bit of a fungus gnat issue that I think got a bit out of control and the larva were definitely stunting all the plants, some more than others. I did a nematode release and OG Biowar Foliar Pack the next week. I’ll post results in the next week.
This is the least pungent of all the autos finishing up right now, but it’s still very smelly. Very very sweet.
Lost the top of this one to bud rot. Clipped it one node below the bud rot. There was a solid bud above the bud rot. So I’ve got an early cure going on.
Battling a couple teeny tiny PM outbreaks. Changed the set up to put the dehumidifier and heater closer to the intakes. Defoliate quite a bit, added an oscillating fan and spread things out. Things seem clear the day or two after the change up.
This one feels like it could go a while. Hopefully it stays in the game to finish properly.
Been battling PM. Some days it seems under control and then bam...it’s back. Still just tiny spots and I’m able to knock it out by checking in three times a day, but it’s getting old. Might pull this one soon. Grower’s Choice website says 55-65 days of flower, I’m at 64 since the first pistils appeared.
Lost the top to bud rot, but there’s still a lot of dense nugs.
Funny thing is, the PM is not affecting any of my photoperiod plants, just the autos from Grower’s Choice 🤷♂️
I lost the top to bud rot. But other than that, it was super solid. Excited to smoke it. I’m aiming for a 5-7 day dry with temps between 65-70º and RH between 55-60%. Then, I’ll go with a two week jar cure before I really dig in.
