Long road from April 9th germination to today, July 9th, 2020. Flipped to flower on July 4th after some defoliation. Grown indoors in a 3x3 tent under an HLG 550 V2 RSpec, added a G8 LED 90w Red Bloom Booster light. Smaller plant was a rescue that almost died as a seedling, transplanted late in veg into a 3-gallon fabric pot. Originally 5 seeds (non-feminized) and she was one of two female plants. Mostly Fox Farm nutes w/ mycorrhizae, strict pH range (6.0-6.5, usually adjusted to 6.25).

I plan to do a final defoliation at the start of week 3 flowering. Lots of side shoots growing from the branches, should I snip those off during this final defoliation or will they produce decent buds? 4-way LST, 2 1/2’ diameter canopy

Hey Growmie, I normally remove them when I do a final defoliation, they always end up making popcorn buds, and once you remove them the plant focus it's energy on my making the main colas bigger. Hopefully, this was helpful and remember ..."Happy Growing" and "Free your mind one puff at a time"

This beast of a lady is stretching to the max. I gifted the smaller plant sharing space in my 3’x3’ tent because she was being heavily encroached upon. Canopy of this final Universal Kush plant spreads 3’ with plenty of bud sites up top. This week I broke out the dehumidifier to stabilize RH at around 60%. Next week I will drop RH to 55%. Still feeding every other day @ 1/2 what Fox Farm feeding schedule outlines. Gave the plant some LST treatment today and ended up splitting the stalk in half. No issues, duct taped it together and gave her a feeding with a bit of silica added to the mix. I’ll keep a closer eye on the plant over the next few days for any negative impacts from the split. Decided to keep the side shoots on this grow to see what the yield ends up looking like. Larfy buds will turn into butter/tincture.

Looks like she’s wrapping up her growth spurt in stretch, bud sites are popping up and developing nicely. Adjusted RH from 55% to 50%, will hold this RH until week 5 of flower and drop to 45% RH. Temps are a struggle right now as we are in the middle of a heatwave with 93 degree F days and 80%+ humidity levels. Grow is in a 3x3 tent w/ 4” exhaust fan. Not keeping the temps down below 85 degrees inside the tent. I have a portable AC unit outside the tent with a passive intake. Next grow I’ll add a 6” exhaust fan and move the 4” fan to the intake port. Feed 1/2 FF nutes every other day in a gallon of water, pH balanced. The days between feedings I water her with a 1/2 gallon of straight water (this Universal Kush plant is thirsty in flower).

Hello growers! I’m struggling with keeping temps down while my tent is closed and lights are on. 3x3 tent, HLG 550 RSpec light (biggest source of tent heat), 4” exhaust, passive intake. Running AC in room, unit is too large to put in tent. Any heat mitigation tips?

If you do have an extraction fan and your still hot in there the if you have a portable ac and can Mcgyver a way to hook the blowout on the ac to your intake on your tent. If all else fails open your door and blow cool air in. Cheers bro

I’m using an HLG 550 V2 RSpec in a 3x3 tent over one Universal Kush plant. Anyone have experience growing with this light in a similar setup? What’s the best height from plant and intensity level should I set the light to? Don’t want to stress her, just want ideal light levels.

Fairly uneventful week, buds are beginning to fill in. Weird (pretty nasty) smell coming from the buds right now, no mold or mildew, but the buds are putting off an odor that smells like fresh skunk spray and bad cheese. Flushed today, Saturday July 25th. Minor defoliation just to uncover bud sites and intrusive fan leaves inside the canopy. Inside tent temps are hotter than I want it to be, so I’m feeding her a bit more kelp and silica & she seems happy.

Again, no issues thus far in week 5 of flowering. Bud development seems to have slowed a bit after some explosive bud growth in weeks 3 and 4. Could be slowed because of a heavy defoliation a week ago, or the heat spikes during the day. Still looks healthy, no real pest issues and no PWM/mold. Humidity is higher than I want (average 65% rh), but the dehumidifier I was running was creating too much heat. Next grow I’ll purchase a smaller dehumidifier for the grow tent and route my Room A/C straight into the tent to mitigate heat and humidity during these Southern summer grows.

Branches are starting to need support. No issues yet this week or changes to note. Hoping to get at least 6 ounces dry from this plant, that would be a huge win.

Lifted the branches with some yo-yos, flushed her on Sunday. Leaves are turning purple, looks like the buds have pretty much reached peak size, but she’s still swelling very slowly. Trichomes are starting to turn cloudy, I intend to harvest once I start to see the first few turn amber. I got a bit paranoid about my lamp height (HLG 550 V2 R-Spec on full blast about 10” from the top of the tallest colas), so I dimmed it to about 75% and raised it up a few inches. No obvious leaf burn or foxtailing, but I’m concerned about burning off THC. Any feedback/tips, especially regarding optimal light height would be fantastic. Thanks for following along!
