RO water only, chop down on day 57 from start of flower after 72 hours of dark. Will dry for 5-10 days at 50% humidity and a light breeze under the upside down hanging buds in darkness at grow room temp which is 70 F. Plan on curing for at minimum two weeks and will take an oz out and keep curing the rest until and repeat this process until I'm out of herb. I plan on using the waste material by making some dry ice hash. I will put in the harvest information after I do my dry trim so maybe 10 days from now or so. Thanks to the community for helping me get here. First grow has gone really well. I have learned rain water in DWC works just as well as RO. A chiller for DWC isn't required and may only be a tiny help. To keep a plants form in flower, I should be using a tomato cage or some bamboo stakes to keep them up..... silica alone isn't enough. You don't need to have any root zone protection to have a successful grow in DWC, just good genetics and good hygiene practices (washing hands with plant based soap). You don't need flavor enhancers or sweeteners to get top shelf weed. I also learned that I can grow marijuana successfully from seed to chop down!

I used rainwater with ppm of 15-18 and mixed 8 gallons with 18 ml of GHE Bloom, Gro and Micro with 4 ml of CalMag. Both buckets have new PPM of 350-390. Is that too aggressive for day 9? Or can I push more? New to DWC and growing and hoping for some applied knowledge. Thanks

For plant 1 of my DWC, I had 410 PPM two days ago. My resevoir now is at 440. She is slightly yellow and a tad droopy. Is the rising of PPM by 30 an indication of nutrient lock? If its nute lock, does this require peroxide water to flush? How long do people flush? Thx in advance

Hello. you have a very young plant there. They should be a bit bigger before full hydro treatment. Give more plain water then nuts at this point. I water twice then feed then more water. I think you are trying to make it do more than it can. Funny, in about 6 weeks you won't be able to slow it down. Good Luck. Chuck.

My plants are on Day 14 and have started to have some leaves twist and taco a little. I lowered the water level thinking that it was probably because the rockwool was too damp. Does this train of thought sound right? Am I overanalyzing and these look fine or something else? Thx

60% RH is pretty high when you grow in water. Better seeing as you have water under your plant to try to get you RH down around 40% and see if the leaves straighten out. Like using a bubble cloner, you dont need a dome over your girls. Cheers friend

In DWC growing, chillers are really expensive and frozen water bottles you need to replenish kind of frequently. Does anyone currently use any insulation for their 5 gallon buckets? Do you have a rough estimate of how many degrees it cooled your bucket? Doing a temp study. Thanks

Can you use a foliar spray made from organics (fulvic and humid acid, potash, sea kelp, wetting agent) in a DWC? Or is using any organic material more trouble than it's worth? Is week 3 too early for foliar spraying? Hoping to green my thumb a bit. Thanks

The upper part has no relation with the technique below, as far as I researched. So if you wish, and if your climate conditions inside the tent allow it without problems, you may do so! Care with the dosage, it seems to have a great amount of Hum. Acid. on it!

Running an experiment on temperature control on DWC buckets. I am seeing that no temp control in DWC thru 3 weeks has been beneficial. Same strain, environment, training, topping and all. Curious what's going on. Maybe hotter temps for first 3 weeks helps due to evaporation?

@MrBlocc420 The uncontrolled bucket temperatures have ranged from 74-79 depending on time of day so far. It's getting colder here quickly. I imagine that the 79 will be the high temp for the remainder of the grow. Controlled bucket has been between 63-69 the entire time with vast majority of time being between 66-68.

@The8thChevron I should probably clarify a bit. My tent temperatures are the same for both. Only difference in the 2 plants so far has been temperature of the water in my DWC buckets. One I keep at 66-68 and the other is whatever the tent is. Root system is maybe 3x the size.

I don’t know where your temp in buckets are but optimal temps in my room in my medium is anywhere from 65-74 degrees on hot days or heat waves I’ll drop temps to 65 to keep plants comfortable. Up to 80 degrees is fine. Any higher your plants will stop taking up nutrients . I will love to see how high your temps get and how your plants react I am curious

In a mostly indica strain, for a 2x4 tent and a 240W LED. Does it pay off to top 2x? I have 5 nodes of new growth after topping and not sure what my next steps should be. I am training the entire thing but feeling like I should do something additional. Thx for any suggestions

@MrBlocc420, Thanks man, what I lack in experience I hope to make up for in being a helicopter parent. I had a few hiccups in overfeeding but smooth outside of a few days. She got sugary really quickly and starting to really be stinky. I have been watching your grow and she looks perfectly symmetrical. I'm pumped to see how yours turn out.

I have done this experiment myself personally.. And I had the same results... The Water chiller did ZERO difference.. In fact I saw better grown in the Reservoir without the Water Chiller then with it... Was a what the fuck moment for me... I have spent about 400 dollars on water chilling up to this point... And now the two water chilling units I have.. Are sitting on the shelf collecting dust. Maybe yours too?

@DeadwebsiteBoringcommunity, This is my first grow that I put effort into. Reading online what it takes to grow a plant. Makes me think I need a PHD in botany before I can start or 5000$ dollars to pay for everything to be automated. I can never figure out what are the real requirements for a healthy plant.

Looks great bro. I don't know about Co2 indoors without having a sealed setup, but it's already starting to get cool enough that I have my windows open to get some fresh air in. I'm in Mass. When it get's cooler I try to run an intake that brings fresh air into my room... outside air has something like 3-400 ppms of Co2.

You are doing well mate. It happens to everyone that you know sometimes the nature of the seeds or whatever. Cannabis can explode in veg stage as well day by day not only when flowering starts... Your plants are dope and you will get nice results I am sure. @WhyNotA2 Keep up your hard work man :)

how do the roots look on plant 2? my plants look like that if I have some root issues. I had some algae early veg from light leaks for the longest time.
motaman311
motaman311
@WhyNotA2, it took me almost a year to figure out my root issues. I had some successful grows because some plants can battle through better than others, but I almost switched to coco because it was so frustrating. It is possible the water bottle could bring bacteria in, but I doubt it. I would be more worried with the frozen water bottle causing root damage if it touches the roots. I was never able to save any plant with h2o2, but many people use it very successfully. There are only so many things that can cause root root, so eliminate them and you are golden. For example, I was using hydroguard, great white, I brewed a compost tea for bennies.. all these things help combat root rot, but I still had issues because I still had a light leak, so no matter how much stuff I put in the res, I couldn't get rid of the root rot. Make sure all your stuff is clean, take the plant out and rinse the roots off with water. Maybe top feed of some water/h2o2 mix through the hydroton. Wash and clean everything.. air stones, air lines too. Here is a good forum post with a lot of info.. other people commenting on how they fixed their issues too: https://www.rollitup.org/t/guide-to-getting-rid-of-root-rot.347697/
WhyNotA2
WhyNotA2
@@motaman311, for this bucket I believe it has to have been light leaks. Is it possible that I brought in the bacteria for root rot from the ice bottles I was using to cool the water? Also, if I wanted to try and save this one..... where would you start? The internet is misleading when you search for troubleshooting like this
motaman311
motaman311
@WhyNotA2, depends what you want to do. Root rot doesn't mean your plant will die. I would pop another seed or two, but try and save this 1 if you have the time and space. It is a great learning experience. Sometimes it is hard to get rid of, but you can definitely save the plant. Also, you got root rot because your environment wasn't right. You had high water temps, light leaks, or something to cause the rot, so it will happen again unless you figure out the cause of the root rot. My guess is a light leak in the reservoir.

@grzesiekkuzniak, crazy how much junk there is on the internet. I have read a few times pH should be 5.9 or 6.1 and some say anything from 5.5-6.5. I used 1/4 the amount of nutrients the labels recommended for seedlings so strange it's too high
