Germination
09/08/2020 - 13/08/2020:
This grow is one seed of Do-Sweet-Dos by Sweet Seeds and there will also be three other girls in the tent, one of Sweet Zkittlez two of Red Hot Cookies. Dropped the seeds at 10am on the 9th. Transferred them to a cotton pad the next day and waited for the tap roots to grow a little. On the 11th the roots were ~1cm long so I planted all the seeds in the morning in BioBizz Light Mix and put them in a tent. I later realised that the soil was not moist enough which is probably why the girls took 3 days to come up from the soil.
Week 1
Day 1 (14/08/2020):
All four girls in the tent popped out of the soil today and I watered them with 100 ml each of water with BioBizz Root Juice at (4ml/1L). In this grow there will be some upgrades since the last one: we have purchased Air Pots which I will be transplanting the girls into after a week! We will have a humidifier from the beginning, so that it is easier to control the environment when temperatures get too high (we will be using the vapour pressure deficit guideline). We will also be using BioBizz All Mix this time as opposed to the Plagron which should keep the pH balance perfect.
Day 2 (15/08/2020):
All of the seedlings grew so tall just over night! The soil is still moist and not dry at the top. The light is at about 80% intensity and there is a fan blowing the air around as well. I set the humidifier at max during lights on which gets the humidity to around 75-80% with temperature at 30°C. During lights off the temperature drops to 26°C and I turn the humidifier on the lowest setting and the humidity is between 70% and 75%. If they start to grow too leggy I might cover her with a cm more of soil. Although she is quite bendy at the moment, I hope the light will straighten her out soon!
Day 3 (16/08/2020):
The girl was still looking a bit bendy in the morning but straightened out by the evening. But she is growing taller and taller, already at 4cm! I've also realised that because the starter pot is see-through, that might be bad for the roots so I covered the outside of the pot with black carton paper to block the light from getting in.
Day 4 (17/08/2020):
The girl is looking beautiful today 😍 in the morning she was 5cm tall and I decided I cover her up with a cm of soil to make sure she grows strong! At the end of the day she was still roughly 4 cm tall bit the second set of leaves has grown so much since yesterday!
Day 5 (18/08/2020):
This girl is growing beautifully strong and I think has the thickest stem out of all of them so far. I am also already seeing the four new leaves that are about to come out. I sprayed the top of the soil today as it was getting a bit dry but will be doing a proper watering tomorrow.
Day 6 (19/08/2020):
She is looking great today with those beautiful four new leaves growing bigger and bigger, the second set of leaves is almost as big as the first. I gave her 100ml of water with Root Juice today but did not see run off. Although I did notice that there were a few roots sticking out from the tomorrow of the pot that were now bring air pruned, so the roots are definitely strong on this girl and I will be transplanting her in the morning on day 8!
Day 7 (20/08/2020):
The girl is doing great today as well, the news leaves are growing in really fast and they are getting bigger! I did notice that some of the perlite started getting green probably because the soil is quite moist and it's humid. I took those off and the very top bit of the soil to make sure it doesn't spread.
Week 2
Day 8 (21/08/2020):
I decided to replant in the evening after lights off so I carefully took out the girls from their tiny pots and put them into their 15L AirPots with BioBizz All Mix soil inside. I also watered all of them with 1.5L of water with Root Juice (4ml/1L) and this will be their last watering if root juice and I will give them plain water at the next as the soil has a lot of nutrients inside. When taking the girls out of their small pots I might have damaged some roots because the soil didn't come out perfectly, but there were loads of roots which is a good sigh and the girls should recover quickly.
Day 9 (22/08/2020):
Today was the first colder day after the heatwave (22 degrees in the day) which has thankfully decreased the temperature in the tent during lights on and the temperature is around 27°C now, which must be much easier on the plants. This means that the humidity can be decreased as well so I am now trying to keep it at around 65%. I think the girl is also doing quite well after changing pots.
Day 10 (23/08/2020):
Today I noticed that there were new leaves growing all along the stem already! Definitely doing great after the replant and probably loving the new space and nutrients in the soil. She is 6cm tall at the moment, we'll see how tall she'll be by the end of the week!
Day 11 (24/08/2020):
The girl is growing fast and healthy, I just lose how curcled her leaves are, and even the new growing leaves are growing in curly which is really interesting. When I checked the soil today it was dry on the very top but still quite wet inside so will see if she needs a watering tomorrow.
Day 12 (25/08/2020):
Not that many updates today, but I did want to show the difference between all the girls in the tent with a picture of the whole tent. RHC2 (bottom left) is definitely the biggest and has the most fan leaves and tiny leaves along the stem. RHC1 (top left) is close but still a little behind. Do-Sweet-Dos (bottom right) is definitely the most interesting as it has the most curly/rounded leaves and I think it will be the most bushy out of the 4. Sweet Zkittles (top right) is the smallest girl but I don't think that's gonna be a negative factor when they have all grown up. But all of the girls are looking healthy and have strong stems. I also rotate the pots clockwise along the tent every day as it is more windy next to the fan and want to avoid wind burn. I checked the soil and it was still not dry enough to water, which is surprising because what I kept seeing the most about Air Pots is that they need to be watered much more frequently.
Day 13 (26/08/2020):
Today the soil was finally dry enough to water and we are starting them with nutrients. We watered all the girls with 1.5L of water with 1ml of BioGrow each (2/3 of recommended, will increase later if required). The girl is growing strong and healthy and will be ready for training next week. But still haven't decided which training methods to use though 😅 Also since it's been colder and more rainy lately, the temperature in the tent has been around 25C during lights on and 23C at lights off which is perfect, finally!
Day 14 (27/08/2020):
Today is the last day of week 2 and the girl has made amazing progress throughout the week. I did notice little spots on her leaves but luckily I know exactly what the problem is because I've encountered this in the previous grow. The burn spots are because of accidentally leaving water droplets on leaves after watering and because the light is so strong it creates a lens and burns the leaves. I completely forgot about this so didn't take enough care when watering, will definitely keep this in mind for the future. At the end of the week she is 9cm tall.
***ALL SUGGESTIONS FOR TRAINING, GROWING, ETC ARE VERY WELCOME IN COMMENTS. THANKS! ✌️ ***
Week 3
Day 15 (28/08/2020):
The girl is doing well today, I did notice the burn spots on the leaves got a bit darker but these leaves will be removed soon so it should be okay. I forgot to mention this in last week’s diary but at around day 13-14 she started smelling when I open the tent and when I get close to her. It really is a great smell!
Day 16 (29/08/2020):
So we were planning to do training on all of the girls today but after watching some videos we decided to wait another day or two because if we do it too early they might take longer to recover so it’s better to wait a few days in my opinion. We did decide on the training techniques for all of the girls though. On the first day we will be topping + low stress training + defoliating the lowest two pairs of fan leaves. After they grow a bit bigger into week 4 we will do Screen of Green and will defoliate throughout the grow (but in small batches of 20% of the foliage). I think that should be some good techniques to practice as we have only done LST previously. Can’t wait!
Day 17 (30/08/2020):
I check the soil and in these pots the soil gets quite dry by the edges of the pot but the centre is still very very wet which is a bit confusing to me but I usually wait until the part in the midway between centre and edge is dry 2cm deep. Today it was still not dry enough for me to water. This is what I’m a bit confused about is whether to water it more because it is getting more dry around the edges or is that going to be overwatering them? I will definitely water them tomorrow though.
Day 18 (31/08/2020):
Today is training day and we have done the first parts of training! We topped the girl as she has 5 nodes and I think is strong enough to recover from the stress. Hopefully we didn’t fuck it up but we will see how she reacts in the next few days. We also wanted to low stress train the tops to give light to the bottom bud sites but we decided that it might be too much stress for one day so we will see how all the girls feel tomorrow and if they are doing fine then we will LST them as well! I also watered all the girls in the tent with 1.5L of water and still 1ml of BioGrow and the water does come out of the holes because the soil gets quite dry there and it’s a bit messy.
Day 19 (01/09/2020):
The girl is doing great today and I don’t think the topping stunted the growth at all, it feels like all the girls in the tent didn't even notice 😄 So we decided to LST train them today, we just tied the main stem and will let the bud sites grow and then tie them down in a few days. When they grow bigger we will be putting a net to do ScrOG as well. For this girl the stems are not growing very far apart and are bushing up together so it will be harder to train and separate all the bud sites but she is so unique and beautiful.
Day 20 (02/09/2020):
So today I’ve noticed a very bad thing, there are flies in our tent. At first I saw one or two every few days and thought that they were fruit flies coming in because there was an opening in the tent for air to come in. We tried to kill the ones we saw in the tent but today I noticed that there are more and I have seen them on the soil 😞 This could mean that they are not actually fruit flies but gnats, I tried to look at a dead one but I couldn’t really tell. Well whatever they are, we are going to buy some need oil to spray on the leaves and soils so hopefully it should arrive on the weekend. Really unfortunate but I haven’t seen any effects yet on the plants and hopefully the neem oil can kill them before they can do any damage.
Day 21 (03/09/2020):
Saw some more flies today crawling on the leaves and tried to kill as many as I could. Other than that the girl is doing great, compared to yesterday she got so much bushier! Opening the lower leaves definitely helped in letting them grow bigger and all the leaves are looking very strong and healthy. The progress since the end of last week has been crazy! And it looks like she hasn’t been phased by the topping so I think we can start on defoliation and ScrOG next week! 😄
Week 4
Day 22 (04/09/2020):
Not that many updates today, still waiting on the neem oil, it should be arriving on Saturday but I did see another 2 flies today when I was watering. I gave all the girls a standard watering of 1.5L with 1ml of BioGrow, it seems like they are happy with it and all the leaves look really green and healthy so I will be keeping it at this dosage for a while and maybe even until the end of veg if they don’t start showing signs of nutrient deficiency.
Day 23 (05/09/2020):
The neem oil was supposed to arrive today but it has been delayed until Monday unfortunately for us. Although I think that because of the AirPots and the developed roots the flies shouldn’t do too much damage even with the delay and the additional time it will take for them to die after applying the oil. Hopefully the girls will be fine!
Day 24 (06/09/2020):
Not that many updates today but I did remove the humidifier from the tent as even on the lowest setting it was making the humidity above 70% which is too high for this stage of vegetation. Without the humidifier the tent remains at around 60% which is sufficient considering the temperature is around 24C.
Day 25 (07/09/2020):
We finally got the neem oil today, we purchased organic neem oil from PinkSun and their horticultural gentle liquid soap as the emulsifier. But I did read that the neem oil should not be applied in direct light so I will spray the girls tomorrow just before lights off and turn off the small fan for an hour so the oil has time to absorb.
Day 26 (08/09/2020):
Today just before lights off (at 11:45am) I sprayed the girls all over with the neem oil and emulsifier. I think the water I used was not warm enough because the oil did get a bit stuck inside the bottle but I did try to shake it often. I sprayed the tops and bottoms of leaves, stems, the top of the soil and also into the sides of the AirPot where there are holes. We also watered all the girls today with 1.5 litres of water and I increased the BioGrow to the recommended 1.5ml so I will see if they are happy with that. We also defoliated a little bit of the most bottom leaves. We took off 6 leaves including the very first baby leaves so she can focus her energy on bud sites. But she has been really healthy throughout the grow so I think this shouldn’t phase her. We also did some training adjustments and exposed more of the future bud sites to the light.
Day 27 (09/09/2020):
Today the girl has grown bigger because we readjusted the training yesterday and exposed her to the light more. It doesn’t seem like the defoliating affected her and she is still growing healthy. I think all the girls must have also liked the increase in BioGrow because they are using a lot of energy to grow at the moment so I will keep the increased dosage.
Day 28 (10/09/2020):
I have still seen some flies in the tent but it does say that neem oil is not a contact pesticide which means it might take a few weeks to show results. But as I’ve said before I think the girls will not be affected by this too much since they have such robust root systems because of the AirPots. Really great end of the 4th week and definitely crazy progress since the end of last week.
Week 5
Day 29 (11/09/2020):
Not that many updates today. I think that Do-Sweet-Dos is still the most beautiful girl out of the 4. She has more rounded leaves and is a slightly lighter green (not sure if that’s a good or bad thing but just something I’ve noticed). But overall I think all the girls are quite similar in growth and I will include an image of all of them this week as well.
Day 30 (12/09/2020):
Been busy day today and didn't have time to check the girls so unfortunately no pictures. We will also soon be moving to a different flat (in about a month) so we might not be able to do scrog until later. Will have to see how many people are vising the house to view it and then judge from there.
Day 31 (13/09/2020):
Was meant to water the girls yesterday but plans got in the way and leaves started wilting a little. I kinda fucked up 😥 But all the girls were completely fine two hours after being watered (the normal 1.5L with 1.5ml of BioGrow). I will also water more often now because I’ve noticed the soil get dry more quickly because the girls are probably using a lot to grow so fast!
Day 32 (14/09/2020):
Noticed some yellowing leaves at the bottom of the foliage when I was inspecting them so might remove at the next defoliation (will probably be at the end of the week). Also quite a few leaves on all the girls have some damage that I thought initially was from watering them and the light burning them but now I think it might be damage from the flies. When looking on google at leaf damage from gnats it looks similar but not quite the same so I think what we will do is remove the damaged leaves that are all mainly under the foliage anyway and see whether more damage occurs after that since there are definitely less flies now. Also the lights didn’t automatically switch back on for some reason and they were in the dark for 10 hours instead of 6, hopefully they don’t start thinking that it’s veg time 🤔
Day 33 (15/09/2020):
Today I sprayed the neem oil with the emulsifier on the girls again (I did this just before lights out and turned the small fan off just like before to ensure the oil gets absorbed into the leaves). I try to spray really thoroughly over all the leaves, on the underside of leaves especially the fan leaves, on the top of the soil and on the sides where there are holes in the AirPot. It seems that there are less flies than there were a week ago (I see about one a day now) but they are still not gone so will need a few more weekly sprays to get the flies completely out.
Day 34 (16/09/2020):
So we decided to work on the girls today and trained them a little more to tuck down the branches that have grown and give some space. But all the girls grow so quick that it is quite difficult to separate all the branches and give them enough space (which is where scrog would have been good but we will see if we are able to do it because of moving or not). Also did a second small defoliation today, just trying to remove all the leaves that are not getting light underneath anyway. I tried to remove the ones that are covered even after opening it up with training and the leaves with damage so I can assess if the flies are still doing damage after. Also watered the girls today as the top of the soil was pretty much dry, just did the usual watering.
Day 35 (17/09/2020):
Not that many updates today, girls are all recovering well after the defoliation and have readjusted themselves after the training. It’s already getting hard to separate them to even take pictures because of how much they are growing so idk how big we are gonna grow them before flower 😅 probably another week or two but we will see at the end of week 6. Definitely great progress this week! Also included a picture of all the girls in the tent, they are all pretty much the same size now (top left is Red Hot Cookies #1, top right is Red Hot Cookies #2, bottom right is Do-Sweet-Dos, and bottom left is Sweet Zkittles).
Week 6
Day 36 (18/09/2020):
I never have updates at the beginning of the week, she is doing well today although some of the leaves at the bottom are getting yellow and fall off by themselves. I guess it is because of them not being exposed to light but it might be something else as well so will have to keep an eye.
Day 37 (19/09/2020):
The girls all look really sad and wilting today but I am not late on the watering and the soil was still wet yesterday. I watered them with the normal BioGrow but I am starting to feel that something might be wrong. The temperature and humidity are fine but it seems that they wilt really easily and the leaves droop down quite a bit. I will need to research this more and investigate what is happening.
Day 38 (20/09/2020):
So it is definitely something to do with the watering of the girls that the leaves start to droop towards the time when they need to be watered. The girls are doing great today, and they definitely look happier than yesterday and the leaves are much perkier after being watered which is a good thing. I’m not sure what the problem is though, or if I am not watering enough. I think I am because I always get some run off and the soil does not take 2 days to get dry again so I don’t want to be overwatering either. Will see how it goes because maybe the girls do need more water because of how big they are getting.
Day 39 (21/09/2020):
The girls are doing good today although not that many updates. There are some issues with the leaves and they are getting more brown in some spots and yellowing as well, even on the bigger fan leaves as well which could be a problem and I am just unable to tell what it is.
Day 40 (22/09/2020):
Today I first sprayed the girls with the Neem oil again just before lights off and turned the small fan off for an hour. The neem oil has definitely helped as I haven’t seen any flies for a while so it definitely is doing its job. I also watered the girls today and I got a comment on my last week’s diary from FreshCoastBudz who suggested that the damage on the leaves is not from the bugs or environmental factors but likely because of a calcium deficiency and the yellowing is likely because of nitrogen deficiency. So today when I watered I slightly decreased the BioGrow to 2ml for 1.5L and have given 1ml of BioBizz Calmag for 1.5L of water. I am really hoping this will help because I am still new and it is still hard to identify the problems on leaves.
Day 41 (23/09/2020):
FreshCoastBudz was really right, I think that they were not getting enough nutrients and nitrogen specifically because all the girls’ leaves are pointing up and I have never seen them this happy so the problem all this time was not to do with the water but to do with the feed (I feel a bit stupid trying to figure it out this whole week lol). Thank you FreshCoastBudz, I am really grateful for your suggestion and it makes complete sense!
Day 42 (24/09/2020):
I was saying earlier in the week that I haven’t seen flies recently but I did see one today so they are not completely gone so I will keep spraying the girls with neem oil for the next couple of weeks for sure. Some yellow leaves did fall off today as well and there seems to be more damage on the leaves as well (the brown spots). Because even if only one fly stays alive it can lay eggs for many more. But other than that, I think it was a great week and I am so happy I finally figured out the problem with why the girls’ leaves were wilting and yellowing at the bottom. I will see how they are before the feeding tomorrow and if they are looking sad again I will increase the dose because it seems that they might not have enough nutrients to last until the next feed.
Week 7
Day 43 (25/09/2020):
I watered all the girls today and increased their nutrients again. So now they are getting 2.5ml of BioGrow and I have kept the CalMag the same at 1ml (for 1.5L). I will see whether it will need to be increased if the damage on the leaves starts to get worse.
Day 44 (26/09/2020):
The girls look happy again today after the nutrients but it looks like more leaves are getting this brown/silverish damage on their leaves and from what I understand it is from a calcium deficiency (based on pictures I tried to compare to online). So I will keep increasing the CalMag in their feed until it looks like the defiency is slowing down.
Day 45 (27/09/2020):
The girls look really bad today 😟 I really want to water them so they can get more nutrients but the soil is still moist so I don't want to overwater them at the same time. The silver/brown leaves are getting worse and they are spreading to leaves that are higher up which is definitely not good. I will be doubling the CalMag so it can at least slow down and I can judge from there how much more they need. Hopefully this doesn't fuck them up too much 😔
Day 46 (28/09/2020):
Today I watered the girls and increased the nutrients once again. I gave them 3ml of BioGrow (2x the recommended) and 2ml of CalMag. The brown/silver damage on the leaves is definitely becoming worse so I am hoping that it will slow down after increase of CalMag and hopefully it's not something else.
Day 47 (29/09/2020):
Today I sprayed the girls with the weekly neem oil in the morning before lights out. All the girls in the tent still looked a bit sad when I sprayed them but after the lights came back on they looked really happy again. So they are definitely not getting enough nutrients but I still need to be careful and I will keep adding a little bit more of BioGrow and stop when I see that they can go from one feeding to the next without "wilting" or looking sad. I think they are just quite big and starting to need more nutrients to feed the whole plant. I will also keep increasing the CalMag and keep an eye on the spread of the leaf damage from the deficiency.
Day 48 (30/09/2020):
Not that many updates today, just more yellowing of some lower leaves and also the brown spots are definitely not slowing down and the ends of leaves are even getting crispy which I have no idea why. Will have to increase the CalMag at next feeding for sure.
Day 49 (01/10/2020):
I wanted to water the girls today but their soil was still moist for some reason which is a bit weird but I would rather water them tomorrow than overwater, although the leaves do look like they need it. Hopefully they can hold out fine until tomorrow and I will increase their nutrients a bit as well.
Week 8
Day 50 (02/10/2020) 💧:
I watered all of the girls today and increased their nutrients a little bit again. I now gave the girl 3.5ml of BioGrow and increased the CalMag to 2.5ml to see if that helps slow down the deficiency.
Day 51 (03/10/2020):
Definitely looking happier again after the watering, although there are loads of leaves still falling off which really concerns me. However, I am hoping that if I keep slowly increasing the nutrients I will be able to find a good balance that will keep them happy.
Day 52 (04/10/2020):
The problems and browning on the leaves is still not stopping so I will definitely still need to increase the nitrogen and CalMag when I water them tomorrow because that is definitely not normal. I also still tracking the progess of specific leaves and that's how I compare to previous days to be able to assess whether they require more CalMag and Nitrogen.
Day 53 (05/10/2020) 💧:
I watered the girls today because they looked quite thirsty. Again some more yellow and dry leaves came off and it looks like the leaves are turning yellow quite quickly so I have increased the BioGrow to 4ml now (for 1.5L of water) which is almost triple the recommended but I think they really need it! And I have also increased the CalMag to 3ml and I will keep it at this level for the next watering as well. It seems that the leaves are not turning brown anymore so this increase should do the trick from preventing more leaves from turning crispy and brown.
Day 54 (06/10/2020):
Girls still looking quite sad this morning but I am still seeing one or two flies in the tent when I start moving the girls or watering them so I am still going to keep spraying the neem oil for a few more weeks. So today I sprayed the normal amount just before lights off and let it absorb without the lights on. After the lights came back on the girls looked good and perky again :D
Day 55 (07/10/2020):
So I have noticed when comparing the brown spots on leaves from a few days ago that they are definitely slowing down but the leaves that have brown spots are yellowing quite rapidly. I still don't understand why because they are getting almost triple the recommended BioGrow and it shouldn't be happening. I read online that it could be because of pH. I have an electronic pH meter but I have run out of distilled water since I checked last so I have ordered some as pH needs to be checked anyway so will be waiting for that to come sometime soon, hopefully next week.
Day 56 (08/10/2020) 💧:
I watered the girls today and I still decided to increase the nutrients until I figure out if it is a pH issue. So I have increased the BioGrow again and it is now at triple the recommended at 4.5ml/1.5L, and keeping the CalMag the same at 3ml and will see if they need more later on or if this is enough for now. They are all growing massively though and becoming proper bushes so I can see how they might be needing loads of nutrients but after reading about it more, it could definitely be that they are not absorbing enough nutrients because there is an issue with the pH. There were also loads of leaves that were brown and crisp (and maybe even a bit moudly) so I did quite a big defoliation which also helps me track the issues on leaves easier in the next week.
Week 9
Day 57 (09/10/2020):
I wanted to mention why we are keeping them in veg for so long: we are going to be moving houses in about 2 weeks we thought it would be better to transport them while they are still in veg and then switch them almost immediately after we have moved them. We would prefer that they not stay in veg for so long because they are growing so big that there won't be any space in the tent width or height-wise xD but unfortunately this is what we have to deal with so it's better long-term. Therefore, we will likely be switching them to flower at the start of week 11.
Day 58 (10/10/2020):
Not that many updates today actually, just took note of some leaves to keep track of in the upcoming days to check if the nutrients need to be increased. I think the deficiency is more at bay now but we will see how they will react when I give them the same nutrients as last watering (instead of the small increases I have been doing recently). And it should be really easy to track because she's been defoliated a few days ago.
Day 59 (11/10/2020)💧:
Watered the girls today with the same amount of nutrients as last time (BioGrow 4.5ml/1.5L and 3ml of CalMag) and I want to see whether the leaves get more yellow or damaged with this amount or if they will be fine and I can keep it. If they do end up getting yellow or brown quickly then I will need to increase the BioGrow and/or CalMag at the next watering because they are so big and using so many nutrients. I am a bit cautious of using so much BioGrow though but I don't think this is any other issue. When they go in flower and I will start giving them BioBloom then I will reduce the BioGrow down again.
Day 60 (12/10/2020):
It is insane how big the girls are getting, they are like massive bushes now! They are looking refreshed after absorbing the nutrients. It's quite interesting that they still usually look a bit wilted in the morning but after the lights have been off and they have had time to absorb the nutrients through the roots then they look much better like day and night. I did notice though that there are still spots on leaves that are getting more brown and browning, which doesn't seem to be stopping which means I'll be increasing the CalMag and BioGrow at the next watering.
Day 61 (13/10/2020):
I sprayed all the girls with Neem oil today just before lights out as usual because still keep seeing a fly or two every now and then when checking them. What's interesting is that they looked a bit wilted before lights out when I was spraying them but perked up again after lights out which means the roots are still absorbing the nutrients. I also noticed that the leaves are drying and getting brown much faster again which means that the deficiency is not under control and I will be increasing the CalMag tomorrow again.
Day 62 (14/10/2020)💧:
So I finally received distilled water to check the pH today and found that the pH has actually been below 6.0, it is currently around 5.8 for all the girls which completely explains why I am giving them so many nutrients and they are just not able to absorb it because of the low pH. I have also ordered the BioBizz pH+ that increases pH which you use it in the feed and it should arrive some time next week. In the mean time, I did water them all today and I gave 5ml of BioGrow and 4ml CalMag
Day 63 (15/10/2020):
Some more leaves have fallen off today that were more yellow. I usually just lightly push on the base of the stem of the leaf and if it falls off easily then I take it off, because otherwise these leaves dry up inside the bush that these girls are and end up rotting/drying. I really hope that the pH+ arrives soon so I can start fixing these problems before they go into flower in about a week or so.
Week 10
Day 64 (16/10/2020):
Not that many updates for the start of the week, just that we lifted the lamp a little bit higher so the distance is now 60cm from the top of the plants.
Day 65 (17/10/2020) 💧:
I am going to keep the nutrients the same as last water since I want to decrease them when I get the pH+. So I have given them 5ml of Grow and 4ml of CalMag today. Also noticed about 3 flies as well which is not a good sign so I will make sure to spray the neem oil super thoroughly on Tuesday.
Day 66 (18/10/2020):
The girls are looking better after the lights are back on but there were loads of leaves that were "weak" and pretty much fell off of the girls so I ended up giving them a bit of a defoliation. But they regrow these leaves so quickly that there is literally no difference even when I take quite a few leaves off haha.
Day 67 (19/10/2020):
The green leaves on the girl are still looking good and perky today but there are still quite a few that are getting both yellow and brown spotted, this will hopefully be fixed after increasing the pH.
Day 68 (20/10/2020) 💧:
Today I watered the girl with the same nutrients as last time because I want to start decreasing them when I get the pH+. So today I gave her 5ml of BioGrow and 4ml of CalMag same as last time but there are still definitely more yellowing leaves and browning spots. I also sprayed all the girls with neem oil because I am still seeing a few flies every now and then, and I made sure to spray really properly on the leaves, stems, on the top bit of the soil and into the holes of the pot. If the flies still continue I will add the neem oil into the soil as well next week.
Day 69 (21/10/2020):
Finally received the pH+ today so will be using it at the next watering and hopefully it should fix some of the nutrient issues. I will need to measure the pH again to determine how many points to raise it by so will do that on the day of the next watering.
Day 70 (22/10/2020):
Really good progress in terms of growth and height this week, and they will finally be going to flowering stage from tomorrow! Super excited to see how they develop in flower and hopefully the deficiencies will reduce once I correct their pH and they will be able to grow the flower sites beautifully.
Week 11
Day 71 (23/10/2020):
Today is a BIG DAY, we are finally switching to 12/12 for flowering!!! We will be moving the girls to our new house on Sunday 25th which is why we are starting the switch from today. They will now be on a 12/12 schedule, with lights on at 2PM and lights off at 2AM starting today. Can't wait to see the flowering!
Was also meant to water all the girls today but really had no time because I also need to measure their pH to see how many points to increase it by because it might have changed since I measured last. Will measure everything and water tomorrow and hopefully increasing the pH should result in some better nutrient uptake.
Day 72 (24/10/2020)💧:
So today I finally got to measure the pH of all the girls and it has actually decreased even more since I last checked and it was at 5.07. This is extremely low so no wonder she is having nutrient issues. I will be aiming to increase the pH to 6.2 (so by roughly 1 point and a bit) and will check tomorrow what the pH is t0 see if it has worked. I watered the girl at 2pm after the lights came on and gave her 1.5ml of pH+ (for 1.5L of water to increase by 1 point), 4.5ml of BioGrow and 3.5 of CalMag (I will start decreasing it over time as I see fit). I will also start giving them BioBloom at the next watering but wanted to give it some time to adjust to the increased pH levels. Hopefully this will stabilise the soil again and will allow all the girls to actually absorb the nutrients.
Day 73 (25/10/2020):
Today was a big day because we moved all the girls to a new apartment! Unfortunatelly because they are SO BIG AND TALL, they didn't fit in the car very well and we had to squash them down a little bit, so their leaves and tops got crumpled and Dos-Sweet-Dos was the only girl that got injured in the move (this is exactly why we kept them in veg for so long)! On of the branches snapped completely, we duct taped it as we have read that the sticky bit of the tape can actually help the branch heal. So we will see if the branch survives but even if it doesn't, the girl looks so massive and bushy that I don't think it will matter in the end. Because all the leaves were fucked up, I just took a picture of all the girls together since they need to recover for a day or two and straighten out after the move, and snapped a quick pic of the break.
Day 74 (26/10/2020):
No pictures or comments today because the girls are currently in a different flat where we are moving to and we will not be visiting it today, however I will go tomorrow to measure the pH and water them all as well.
Day 75 (27/10/2020):
Unfortunatelly didn't have time to go to the new flat today where the girls are now at. So I can't water them today and will have to do it tomorrow. I know they will probably look really wilted tomorrow but I am hoping that since I will be adding BioBloom along with BioGrow they will all be able to recover quickly.
Day 76 (28/10/2020)💧:
Thankfully we were able to come to the new flat today to water the girls and also checked their pH levels, but they all did look pretty bad. The pH is definitely better and I will check again in a few more waterings. The girl had a pH of 5.72 which is definitely an improvement but I added more pH+ in this watering. So today for their 1.5L of water I gave them 3ml of BioGrow (reducing because there is nitrogen already in BioBloom), 1.5ml of BioBloom (recommended for Week 1 of flower), 0.8ml of ph+, 3ml of CalMag, and also 2.5ml of Neem oil to get rid of the flies as there are still some in the soil. Quite the concoction!
Day 77 (29/10/2020):
The girls are definitely looking better after all the nutrients and water and look very happy. I also actually noticed today that some of the lower leaves are kind of curling down. Based on what I have seen online I think this is actually nitrogen burn because it is happening on the stems that are the lowest to the soil. I will definitely decrease the BioGrow to 1.5ml/1.5L and increase the BioBloom as recommended for 2nd week of flower, hopefully they will then be getting the correct levels of nutrients. But definitely really good progress this week and the girls are already showing some beautiful pistils! And best of all, the stem that had been damaged during the move seems to be all fine (will still be keeping the tape on for a bit).
Week 12
Day 78 (30/10/2020):
The pistils are getting bigger and there are definitely more now, can't wait for more to grow! Not that many updates otherwise, all of the girls in the tent are definitely looking better and healthier.
Day 79 (31/10/2020):
Watered all the girls today and decreased the BioGrow and increase BioBloom to get the girls going! I watered them with 3ml/1.5L of BioBloom and 1.5ml/1.5L of BioGrow, and 3ml of CalMag. I think I will decrease the CalMag by half for this girl from the next watering because the only problem I am seeing still not resolved is the yellowing leaves but the browning spots have pretty much slowed down.
Day 80 (01/11/2020):
Been busy with the new house today so didn't have time to check the girls and take pictures today unfortunately.
Day 81 (02/11/2020):
The girls are making great progress and the increase in pH definitely shows because they are not droopy the day before the next watering anymore. I noticed that some leaves are still getting more yellow especially those at the bottom of the canopy but definitely not as fast as before. I will check the pH at the next watering to check whether more pH+ is needed or if it's all good now.
Day 82 (03/11/2020) 💧:
Measured the pH of all the girls today before watering so I know whether to add more pH+. DSD was 5.17 so I think it is a good time to increase it to 6.2, so I gave her 1.5ml for 1.5L of pH+ which should increase it by 1 pH point. In addition to this I also gave her 1.5 of BioGrow, 3ml of BioBloom, and 1.5ml CalMag. I also topped up the pot with a bit more soil because it has been trampled over time and now when watering the water just comes out of the top holes of the AirPot which is annoying.
Day 83 (04/11/2020):
The buds are growing so fast 😍 DSD is the smallest girl and the bushiest out of the 4 but the colas look so neat and lovely. I think she will need a good defoliation soon to give light to some of the lower branches but looks good for now.
Day 84 (05/11/2020):
The girls are absolutely beautiful and some trichomes are already showing up! They are definitely growing incredibly fast with some noticeable differences compared to the end of last week. So excited to see the buds grow bigger!
Week 13
Day 85 (06/11/2020):
The girls were supposed to get a watering today but when I checked the soil it was actually still pretty wet which is a bit weird but perhaps it is because I added the new soil and it is now able to keep more moisture. Not sure but definitely didn’t want to overwater them to leaving that for tomorrow.
Day 86 (07/11/2020)💧:
It still surprises me how resilient DSD is compared to the other girls in the tent because the others looked quite wilted today but this girl is always looking fresh. I watered with 3ml of BioBloom, 1.5ml of BioGrow, and 1.5ml of CalMag.
Day 87 (08/11/2020):
Not that many updates today, the girls are looking strong. Also noticed that there are quite a few bud sites at the very bottom where the light doesn’t reach that are quite light green yellow. I wonder if they are worth exposing to the light and growing of if it is better to focus the top colas...
Day 88 (09/11/2020):
We’ve been thinking that the girls might need to be opened up a little bit because there are so many little stems that are just not growing because they are not getting enough light. I don’t know whether we will put a net or tie the main colas to the metal rods in the tent, but will decide and do it tomorrow.
Day 89 (10/11/2020)💧:
Today I decided to add BioBizz Top Max to the mix so their buds grow big and sweet, and watered with 3ml BioBloom, 1.5ml BioGrow, 1.5ml CalMag and 1.5ml TopMax. After watering I also decided to separate the colas with a net to expose the smaller colas below the canopy and see how they go. They are basically divided on the net into 4x4 squares for each girl and I tried to separate the stems as much as possible to utilise the space of the tent a bit better as well. I also had to defoliate quite a lot to get rid of the big fan leaves that were in the way.
Day 90 (11/11/2020):
I can’t believe how much all the girls grow over the day. The bit in the centre that I’ve exposed to the light have also grow a bit so I can’t wait to see if this actually pays off. It is a bit more difficult to take pictures of the girls individually now but this is definitely a good choice long term.
Day 91 (12/11/2020):
The girls look absolutely gorgeous at the end of this week. The buds are definitely growing bigger and fattening up, and the trichomes are getting more dense as well. I’ve also kept forgetting to mention but DSD smells amazing, a bit earthy. DSD has the smallest buds out of all the girls but I think they will be extra potent 😍
Week 14
Day 92 (13/11/2020)💧:
Great start to the week with watering today and because all the girls are entering their 4th week of flower, I will again be increasing the BioBloom as per the commendations on the watering chart, but since the pH has been increased they are definitely looking great and have enough nutrients between the watering days. So today I gave the girls 4.5 ml of BioBloom, 1.5ml of BioGrow, 1.5ml of CalMag, and 1.5ml of TopMax for 1.5L of water. I think I will be giving the same nutrients for the rest of the week as well.
Day 93 (14/11/2020):
Not that many updates today actually. The girl is looking amazing as always
Day 94 (15/11/2020):
I wanted to check the trichomes on the girl today with a loupe to see how she is developing up closer but I have no idea where my loupe is :( Really wanted to look closer at the flowers but will have to find it first to take some close up pictures as well
Day 95 (16/11/2020)💧:
We watered the girl today and gave her the same nutrients as before. They were watered with 4.5ml of BioBloom, 1.5ml of BioGrow, 1.5ml of CalMag and 1.5ml of TopMax. I think the TopMax is definitely making the buds fatten up.
Day 96 (17/11/2020):
The girl is super healthy and looking great, I took a picture from below because it’s quite hard to show how she is growing now. She is definitely the smallest girl and has the smallest buds even now after giving TopMax but from the bottom is looks like quite a lot of flowers.
Day 97 (18/11/2020):
Not that many updates today, just gonna mention that the girl does not smell as strong as the others in the tent. The others smell so strong that it is getting through the closed tent. DSD smells quite nice but the smell is not strong at all. It is very earthy, maybe a bit of pine, so quite a nice smell just not enough of it! I wonder how it will be after the flowers dry...
Day 98 (19/11/2020)💧:
I keep wanting to measure the pH to make sure that it is still above 6.0 but I haven’t had enough time because it takes a while, but I will make sure to measure the pH before the next watering. So still watering with the same nutrients as at the beginning of the week with BioBloom, 1.5ml of BioGrow, 1.5ml of CalMag and 1.5ml of TopMax. Although I think this will be the last time I will be adding CalMag because the girl looks like she does not have that deficiency any more. Also it looks like she stopped stretching length-wise and started focusing on growing the buds because the height is the same as last week. But really amazing progress this week, I’ve included a video of all the girls in the tent as well so it’s easier to see how different they are!
Week 15
Day 99 (20/11/2020):
Unfortunately did not have time today to take pictures or check them because have been quite busy.
Day 100 (21/11/2020):
Woow day 100 today, which seems a bit crazy but I think the girls just need another month and they will be ready for harvest. It has been a great grow so far and although 100 days seems like a lot, the girls have definitely come really far. DSD is definitely one of the slower girls and her buds are not as big as the other girls, but maybe that will pay off by being the most hard-hitting.
Day 101 (22/11/2020)💧:
Measured the pH of the girl today before watering and it was at 5.75 which means it needs to be increased slightly. I wonder why it keeps dropping because apparently the BioBizz soil is supposed to maintain the pH pretty well but I guess she is quite big and must be taking in more nutrients. I also decided to stop giving her CalMag since she has not been showing the deficiency on the leaves for a week or two now. So I watered with the usual 1.5ml of BioGrow, 4.5ml of BioBloom, 1.5ml of TopMax. And on top of that I gave 0.75ml of pH+ to increase the pH by 0.5 points. The buds are not fattening up as much as I thought they would but the trichomes are definitely getting more and more dense on the flower which is a great sign.
Day 102 (23/11/2020):
DSD has definitely been the most resistant to stress/nutrients/watering problems. She always looks happy and except for the calcium deficiency at the end of veg, she has definitely been the strongest girl of the 4 in the tent. So happy with how she has been growing, definitely reflects the indica that she is
Day 103 (24/11/2020):
Not that many updates today, just doing as amazing as always.
Day 104 (25/11/2020)💧:
Today I watered the girl with 1.5ml of BioGrow, 4.5ml of BioBloom, and 1.5 of Topmax. She is looking really healthy and beautiful as always
Day 105 (26/11/2020):
Managed to take some lovely pictures and a video of a close up of those beautiful snowy trichomes. This girl will definitely be a hard hitter – all the trichomes are so densely packed. Amazing progress from last week and the flowers are definitely fattening up.
Week 16
Day 106 (27/11/2020):
Didn’t have much time but the girl looked good, the leaves are always pointing up which is a great sign.
Day 107 (28/11/2020)💧:
I watered the girl today with 1.5ml of BioGrow, 4.5ml of BioBloom, and 1.5ml of TopMax. Although I think that I might do a defoliation tomorrow because even with the net there are still quite a few bud sites at the bottom that are not exposed to the light but have potential of growing bigger. Will see tomorrow!
Day 108 (29/11/2020):
Today I wanted to take the girls out of the net and clean them up a bit because they were looking a bit bushy and there were some crunchy leaves stuck. Initially, I was just going to defoliate a little bit but then realised that there were loads of bud sites at the very bottom that were not growing at all and probably wasting the plant’s energy. I lollipopped them but I realise now that I should have done this a lot earlier (week 1 or 2 of flower). I know that the girls are at quite a late stage to do it effectively but that’s a lesson for the next grow. I took off the smallest branches from the bottom and quite a few leaves, which will be the last time defoliating until harvest. I know that this might stunt them for a little bit but I think this should be better for the yield long-term. But besides that, the buds look absolutely incredible 🌸
Day 109 (30/11/2020):
The girl is doing well today, considering how much I have cut off yesterday. But still left quite a few leaves because I am scared of fucking up the buds this close to harvest. But spreading the colas out has definitely helped with letting the smaller buds grow and they will actually be a decent size!
Day 110 (01/12/2020)💧:
I completely forgot at the beginning of the week that it is already the 6th week of flower which means nutrient increase! According to the chart I now need to give them 4ml/L of BioBloom and 4ml/L of TopMax to promote fat buds. It is definitely a lot of nutrients but I think the girls will definitely benefit from it because today the lower leaves were actually wilting, which would be because of the defoliation I did the day before yesterday. So today I gave them 1.5ml of BioGrow, 6ml of BioBloom, and 6ml of TopMax.
Day 111 (02/12/2020):
Didn’t have much time today so just quickly snapped a pic of all the girls in the tent. I think they are doing great! 😄
Day 112 (03/12/2020):
The buds on this girl are such a dream 😍 They are so compact, so pungent, so green, so sticky, so beautiful. I cannot wait to see how she will grind. It looks like this will be an amazing smooth, hard-hitting smoke!
Week 17
Day 113 (04/12/2020)💧:
Nice start to the week with a watering. Just as last week, I will be giving her the increased nutrients until the flush. So today I gave her 1.5ml of BioGrow, 6ml of BioBloom, and 6ml of TopMax.
Day 114 (05/12/2020):
The trichomes were looking beautiful today! You can see in the pictures that some are getting more amber now which is a great sign as I thought this girl was going to develop them later than the others in the tent. But it looks like she will ripen right on schedule, at the same time as the others.
Day 115 (06/12/2020):
Took a quick pic of the tent but didn’t have much time to check the girls properly. I’m sure they are great as always 👌
Day 116 (07/12/2020)💧:
I watered the girl today with the same nutrients: 1.5ml of BioGrow, 6ml of BioBloom, and 6ml of TopMax. The buds on this girl are looking super dense! I hope that this 6ml of TopMax will fatten them up even more in the next few weeks before harvest 😄
Day 117 (08/12/2020):
Didn’t have time to take pictures today actually
Day 118 (09/12/2020):
At first this girl was smelling the least out of all the others but now it is actually getting a much stronger earthy smell which I am loving! This one is definitely a couch-lock girl 🛀
Day 119 (10/12/2020)💧:
Watered the girl today with the same nutrients as last time giving her 1.5ml of BioGrow, 6ml of BioBloom, and 6ml of TopMax. I took some videos and close-up pictures and she looks incredible! Also looking from the trichomes, I noticed some more amber ones so I am thinking to even start the 2 weeks flush from next watering onwards and prepare for harvest! Will assess the trichomes in a few days and decide.
Week 18
Day 120 (11/12/2020):
I checked the girl’s trichomes and they are looking great! They are still mainly cloudy with only a handful of amber ones, but the other girls in the tent are definitely more ready. We will have to take them out at the same time so they can dry in the tent for good air circulation and a controlled environment. The pistils on the DSD are also the least developed compared to the other girls. So I will need to start the flush at the next watering. This one would definitely benefit from a bit more time but I I think since the trichomes are already cloudy she would be ready in 2 weeks anyway 💪
Day 121 (12/12/2020):
The girl is looking good today but actually noticed that some leaves are starting to go yellow. Although I think during this time it is actually good news and I will be happy for her to take up all the nutrients left into the buds to make them extra tasty!🤤
Day 122 (13/12/2020)💧:
Sooo this week is the start of the flush, just 1.5L of water. They are definitely ready for the flush and the buds are looking gorgeous! So gorgeous, in fact, that we cannot wait for the girls to be ready. So I cut some stems off to dry 🙊 We basically realised that they will not be ready and dry by Christmas (plus we would want to still cure them for min 2 weeks) and so I cut some of the smaller stems off to get some buds ready for Christmas celebrations 🎄 I only cut off 2 stems (one from each girl) of the buds that were at the bottom. I’ve put them into a box with holes in a room thathas good airflow. I’ll also make sure to weigh them and add it to the final dry weight. They do look super amazing though and definitely quite purple
Day 123 (14/12/2020):
Didn’t have time today to take pics of the girls but I’m sure they are fine 😉
Day 124 (15/12/2020):
I swear the buds look fatter and fatter every single day that I check her. Looking great, smelling great, and will definitely taste great!
Day 125 (16/12/2020)💧:
Second flush of the week, great stuff. Just gave her 1.5L of water and ripped off some dry leaves. There are some stems at the bottom that are still quite weak and cannot hold their weight. At this point it is too late to cut them off but I have definitely learned to lollipop for the future!
Day 126 (17/12/2020):
What a great end to the week and just 1 more week to go! Buds are looking astonishing at this point. And I swear they are still getting bigger and bigger. My only concern is that the buds still have some white pistils which also determines maturity. I hope they ripen up a bit more over the last week! And next week I will be watering twice and probably harvest after the whole week is finished, so on Christmas day! What a great present 🎁
Week 19
Day 127 (18/12/2020):
Here we go last week of Flower and the grow :D It is so exciting that we will be harvesting our girls on Christmas day. What a beautiful present 😍. I didn’t have much time to look at them today or take pictures but at least this is the last push and they are almost there 💪
Day 128 (19/12/2020)💧:
Watered the girl today which will be the second to last watering before harvest. She has definitely developed quite nicely and fattened up quite a bit since a week ago.
Day 129 (20/12/2020):
The girl yellowing quite rapidly as this stage, which is a good sign I guess. However I will not touch any of the leaves or wilting buds at the bottom to make sure not to disturb the her in the last push of flowering. I want her to fully focus on those buds in the last few days 😄
Day 130 (21/12/2020):
She looks amazing as always 😍 This is the smallest girl so I think she will weight the least in the end but the buds look incredibly dense and I think it will pay off!
Day 131 (22/12/2020)💧:
Last watering today and all the girls in the tent should be dry enough on the 25th to harvest! I’m actually surprised how close they are in development and all 3 strains can be harvested together. Saves a lot of trouble!
Day 132 (23/12/2020):
Didn’t have time to look at them and take pictures today but just one day left of the last push!
Day 133 (24/12/2020):
Aaaand it has come to an end, the last day of the beauty! She has been really easy to grow and I’ve definitely learned a lot during this growing experience that I can improve on next time. This was the smallest and bushiest girl from the beginning and she 15cm smaller than the other girls but I think she has the most sophisticated and earthy smell, definitely representative of an indica! This girl was also by far the most resistant even when I’ve left them unwatered for an extra day. She only had tiny issues with nitrogen and calcium deficiency which she completely recovered from. Overall a great strain, can’t wait to try how potent she is!
Didn’t manage to get a lot of pictures in this week but I’ll be taking loads of pictures and videos of the end product for the final harvest diary!
The buds on this girl were quite small but they came out veeery dense. The smell wasn't anything special as she was growing but now that she's cured, it smells like a really nice strong indica with hints of citrus. But she was incredibly easy to grow and so quick to recover! Couldn't be happier with the final outcome and really happy about growing this strain!
