Fast Buds has been very kind in extending me the opportunity to try our their new strain C.A. There's not a lot of information out there about this strain yet, other than it is supposed to be indica dominant. No solid leads on the name that I have found. I'd going with a guess of Cali Airlines for now (though I suspect this may be a CBD strain).
Put the seed straight into the soil in the final container (3 gal grow bag) on March 3rd. I'll spray the top of the soil once a day until I see the sprout appear. Then I'll let the tap root do its thing and find the water below in the soil. The soil was watered heavily 2 days before planting the seed, then left in the tent to get the soil to temperature.
My Perpetual Harvest strategy…. Originally my plan was to start 2 seeds each month, but had some seeds from one breeder that did not germinate early in my rotation. Ultimately, this caused single seeds to pop and messed up my 2 at a time plans. But, that seemed to work out OK, because now I think starting one seed every 3 weeks is a better strategy. This should provide me with 4-5 plants at a time, instead of 6. However… Since Fast Buds has been kind enough to allow me to preview their new CC and CA strains I am now going to be starting a new seed every 2 weeks. This should allow me to get all of the plants I want to grow this season in the perpetual harvest rotation. I need to shut down over the summer because my tent is currently in the attic.
Plants get fed once weekly on weekends. Seedlings get water only. Plants in vegetation get water and Recharge. Flowering plants get water, Recharge or Big Bloom (Fox Farm). Feeding is done using 2 gallon watering can. Any additional waterings during the week are given on an as needed basis per plant. I lift the plants to help determine which plants are more dry (lighter) and provide water as needed.
I give each pot a quarter turn every day in an effort to make sure the plants get equal lighting from all sides. I rotate the plant in place by turning the pot 90 degrees (I am not rearranging the layout of the plants in the tent on a daily basis).
The soil is an ‘organic super soil’ I mixed myself using organic top soil, organic potting soil, organic compost, organic peat moss, organic perlite, organic vermiculite, lime, epsom salt, expanded clay pellets and Jobe’s organic fast start. I am also recycling my soil and water with Recharge when using recycled soil.
For plant training I have tried a variety of things, but my plans now are to do LST bending only, no HST anymore. I may decide to go back to HST again in the future, but I’m curious to compare LST training only to see how that goes. Around 3 week I'll do a FIM cut/pinch once there are 4-5 nodes established. And some defoliation around the 3rd week of flowering. I have been doing HST bending and having good results, but think the HST may be causing the plants to take longer to harvest. I hope LST only will help increase harvests while getting me to harvest sooner.
Setup:
1- Grow Tent 24”x48”x72”
2- Viparspectra 300W LED’s (1-V300 & 1-R300)
1- Hanging 100w CFL (26w actual)
1- Carbon Filter w/ 190cfm Fan & 4” ducts
1- 6” clip-on fan
1- 700w electric heater - oil filled radiator (in front of air intake behind tent)
C.A. coming along strong. She sprouted in 5 days. Been keeping her directly under the CFL to try to reduce stretching. Anyone have any idea what C.A. stands for yet?
I still don't have a clue what CA stands for, but she's coming along nicely so far. I think I'm going to try more of a manifold LST with her once she gets a little bigger.
Fast Buds CA is growing nicely, she put out an impressive amount of new growth this week. Fed her with a little Recharge and Big Bloom this week. Still don't have a clue what CA stands for.... Hopefully soon 🙏
CA is growing nicely. Entering her flowing stretch now. Bud sites are tighter to the main stem on this girl than branched out so far, but that could change as the stretch continues. Still patiently waiting for Fast Buds to let us know what CA stands for. 😉
Fast Buds new strain CA (still no idea what CA stands for yet). Growing strong and starting to show bud sites now, but the leaves look a little more yellowish than I'd like. I was not checking PH previously and started checking the PH this week. My well water comes out of the tap around 7.3-7.4, which is a bit higher than most recommend. This week I PH'ed down to 6.3 and fed her Recharge only. Hope to see some more green coming back over the next few days.
Fast Buds CA (still don't have a clue what CA stands for). Looking better. I gave her an overdose of Recharge and I think it helped bring some green back to the leaves. I'll probably OD her again. Nice little bud sites developing! 😃
Fast Buds CA is growing nicely. Starting to see some green come back to the leaves. She seems to be liking the overdose of Recharge. She's a little on the small side, but the bud sites look great! 👍
Still unnamed C.A.... Maybe "Callit Anything"? 😜
Anyway, her buds are looking nice and tasty. Who cares what the name is, I'm gonna be smoking this in a few weeks! 👍
CA is officially in flush. Going to harvest next weekend. She smells wonderful. Can't wait to give her a taste. I'm still curious what CA stands for, anyone know yet?
I chopped down my CA this week. She's hang drying now. I have before and after trim shots posted. She's not going to be a heavy yielder, but she's looking and smelling good. I'll post the harvest report after she's dried out and I've had a taste. 👍
First of all, I really blame myself for any issues here with this girl. She turned out fine, tastes good and all. But a very small yield of only 10 grams. She seemed to suffer some issues during the grow that I could never overcome. I think the issues overall are due to using recycled soil from previous harvests and not amending with any fresh soil. I won't do that again.
But on to the smoke report... She is pretty tasty, but in more of an earthy way. She is not really fruity flavored or anything like that. Also, she tastes nothing like my Mexican Airlines so I don't think this new CA strain was crossed with Mexican Airlines as I guessed previously. And the high is pretty powerful. After smoking her I was just standing there for at least 15 minutes doing nothing at all. So she's not a CBD variety either (which was another guess I had). I'm definitely going to grow CA again with fresh soil and expect a much larger yield that way.
Overall, I'm happy. 😃
It was an honor to be asked to give CA a try before the official release by FastBuds. I cannot thank FastBuds enough for this opportunity!
GrowDiaries rules! Definitely my favorite social media type of site and also my favorite growing site! The GrowDiaries community of users are awesome! Very helpful bunch of growers here, I'm glad to be a part of it! 👍
It's so awesome for me to see someone doing a perpetual auto grow similar to mine. Have you found anyone else doing the same? If you have an can share the names I'd be most grateful!
@2x4grow420, I wish I had ALL of the kinks worked out, but knowledge is never-ending. The GD community has been a great help and inspiration. I'm happy to share what I know. Let me know if you have any questions.
I just started this 10 months ago. Hopefully you have all the kinks worked out and I can learn from you. :)
I'm looking forward to seeing your grows. @DudeGrowsWeed,
Going to subscribe to your youtube channel. Gotta support the community everyway possible. You should add videos more often people love to see other peoples hard work growing.
@Nomad, I’m a little cautious about YouTube these days. A lot of channels have been shut down and they gave me a warning. I’d like to do more but going to wait for things to calm down first.
