uselesslemma The first week was tough, but it paid off. There was an abundance of worry, hard work, uncertainty, and inexperience. Crises seemingly arose every day.
-- The clay pebbles, rockwool starters, nutrients, grow lights, TDS and pH meters, and various other hydroponic supplies didn't arrive until the very last moment, when the germinated seedlings were in desperate need of transplanting. One seedling even lost a cotyledon inside the damp paper towel, seeming to be on its last legs when it was moved into rockwool and planted.
-- While attempting to wrangle air hoses and cables together I nearly killed plant B. Trying to pull the hoses away from the delicate seedlings, my arm got caught and ripped plant B straight out of the rockwool and flung it across the room. It landed on the ground behind me, so I nearly crushed it trying to step back and regain balance. Thank goodness I was able to replant it successfully.

uselesslemma Learned a lot this week.
-- Added Ca & Mg supplements to correct the deficiencies I noticed last week, and now the ladies are thriving! EC made a quantum leap upward after adding adding CALiMAGic.
-- Noticed explosive growth after diffusing carbon dioxide into the grow space via sodium bicarbonate + citric acid + water reaction. Even without the space being 100% airtight, carbon dioxide levels are likely significantly higher than the yeast fermentation reaction from week 1 (need meter to measure).
-- pH of the DWC reservoir steadied significantly this week, so there's little need to check pH daily like I did the first week.

uselesslemma The CALiMAGic sure did the trick this week. The reservoir temperature was concerning last week, although this week it hovered around ~70 degrees. pH and EC seem fine; I'm checking the vitals pretty irregularly, as I haven't run into many issues. Planning to flush the reservoir soon, possibly in a week or so.

uselesslemma On 09/26 I decided to test mainlining. Last week the plants were doing a bit too well; huge fan leaves growing out into crevices, endless new growth tips and additional branching, etc.
uselesslemma This week was a nightmare, due to....ROOT ROT. :(
Seeing some symptoms of possible nutrient deficiencies the previous week, I initially focused on expanding the feeding regimen to include secondary/tertiary supplements from GH.
Main-lining tutorials suggest removing new growth tips from the manifold (red, orange, blue) to avoid wasting energy; does this apply to the main colas (white) after the final topping? Should I remove or keep growth tips that emerge from nodes at each level?
Hello uselesslemma,
Keep the growth tips that emerge from nodes at each level. I see in your diary that you have a great progress going on!
Good luck with your project, I wish you all the best! 👽
Hello, First of all Welcome to grow diaries :) Your plants are looking great. I would not of advised mainlining your first grow though it is impressive. I find it better to get a couple of grows under your belt doing straight runs and topping if you are growing for yield you will have much better production and fill the space alot quicker. I myself try and limit training to only if its needed. with hydroponic especially DWC support is the biggest issue you are going to run into. Plants with no medium in the late flowers of growth are simply too heavy to stand alone. They will lean or fall over in drastic cases. Elastic netting has your back here. If you are carrying on to mainling in hope of scrogging the plant then sometimes only simple high stress training is needed really by topping once or twice you seem to get the same effect as mainlining as long as you keep on top of defoliation. though im not sure what your growing for weather that be max yield or quality over quantity ? There is no reason why you cant have both :) Anyways not knocking you in anyway I started in hydroponics and infact have only ever done one soil run in my 5 years growing lol too many factors to go wrong for my liking. I love the control of DWC. EC your water then Ph your water and then all you need is time :)
