Germination and first veg week
First grow, I've found a very interesting strain that I want to grow, but seeds got stuck in international mail limbo.
In the meantime, I've started growing from seeds I found in buds:
- I had 20g of the PineappleX and 1 flower was packed with seeds....
- 2-3 seeds from a wonderful Blue Dream
- My guy gave me some seeds
So I started up with 9-10 seeds, reduced to 7
I've transferred the selected plants to bigger containers.
I've noticed that I'm staring them all day and a friend has an unused old GoPro that he was willing to let me have for this grow....
So now the GoPro takes an image every minute.
I've started working on a python to script to let me create a time-lapse video, FUN!
The LST really opened up the girls and helped them to increase volume.
During the week PE finally got some more training, it feels like she opened up nicely.
It is not very comfortable to grow 2 plants in a 60*60cm tent.
No more training, switched the lights to 120W+660nm+UV+IR.
I had to increase the distance since the new QB is much hotter.
The weather was very humid - AC working all the time, still 26.2C at night, usually 25C during daytime, 45% RH during day, 52% RH at nighttime .
Still fighting the heat, added a stronger bottom vent, managed to stabilize the temp to 25C.
Relative Humidity is still a bit high, specially when opening the tent in the morning and at nighttime.
AC working strong.
Started taking PH measurements, though not very accurately (chem test).
Apparently my mix of 2:1 Brita/tap water was good, the water in the tap is very alkaline (>8), the filter reduces the PH nicely.
I read that Brita also filters out CalMag, so I've added a little boost.
I'll stop using the greengro nutrient next week, I think it's Nitrogen level is too high.
I received Johnny Green's Greengro in a grow deal, the other nutrients (except CalMag) are from the same line.
"What you get for a bag seed" week
- I've stopped using the Nitrogen reach nutrient. Bloomax is 1.7:14:14.5 NPK, by the leaves it seems like they have a slight nutrient burn, so it feels right to reduce nutrients.
- I've done some really low stress training on PE, just opened a light space for lower buds
And...............
- 'I think I saw a pollen sac', indeed suddenly something green appeared on the top part one of BD's biggest colas.... I've decided to use tweezers and get it out
- Now I imagine hermis everywhere, I've read about them a bit, mainly looking for images.... Something about PE doesn't feel right.
Just spoke to friend and he also thinks PE has many pollen sacs. I'm going to try to save it - problem is I can only see the bastards when I take a picture with extra zoom... at least she's not huge.
I guess BD is pollenated by now.... will update.....
EDIT: I've transferred PE outside, week 6 of flowering starts today, so I think I'll harvest her in 10 days. She originated in a bag seed, so I'm taking it easy, learning a lot!!!!
My first grow is kind of a rehearsal - the feminized seeds arrived couple of weeks ago and I hope to start a new diary soon :)
Hold off until one or 2 opens. Just remove it from your other girls. If it opens a sac instead of pistols, then take it down. It wont hurt to let it pop if you take it down right after. Cheers
Week 8 flowering
BD: I've stopped the growing nutrient too soon (week 6 flowering), so she went yellowish too soon, she got 2 more doses (weeks 7,8 flowering) and recovered as much as she could.
PE: the sunshine is good, but the insect struggle is real, she's gonna get some "Saccharopolyspora spinosa" (Spinosad) based pesticides
[https://www.growweedeasy.com/cannabis-plant-problems/thrips]
I was wrong about PE - she's not an hermie (written after harvest), but most def both of them needed more space, and I was lucky it was still sunny
Recap: In week 6 of flowering I've moved the plant outdoors since I thought it was an hermie, but apparently she was perfectly good.
At first the sun was good, though there were many insects issues (thrips and white flies).
I've moved it back indoors for it's last 10 days since it was stormy outside and the tent was available.
The flowers looked impressive, but they were not dense.
I wish I could have supplied better environment for the plant, I'm glad she made it after all :)
