Sowed both seeds in the evening on 10/22 in 4" pots filled with coco coir substrate. Pots were put in a seedling tray with clear plastic cover in a south facing window sill. No bottom heat was provided, room temps were in the high 60°F to low 70°F.
Both seeds breaking the substrate surface by mid-day on 10/25. I put the 4" pots in the grow tent on 10/25 with the Maxisun PB 1500 light at about 28" on an 18/6 light cycle.
Both seedlings popped up by mid-day 10/25. I plan to keep the seedlings in these 4" pots until the end of week 2, at which point I'll transplant into 3 gal fabric pots.
I lost a few weeks of growth during veg in the last grow due to using a poor soil mix (pH and ec way too high from the compost used). I'm looking forward to better growth in the veg stage from these plants.
Water (each pot):
10/27: 50ml
10/29: 65ml
10/31: 75ml
Fertilizer:
1/6 tsp Dr. Earth 2-2-2 dry amendment at the time of sowing seeds
1/6 tsp Dr. Earth 4-4-4 top dressing on day 7
Just watering with pH'd tap water this week. I expect to transplant at the end of the week, depending on root growth.
The Afghani #1 seems to be growing more quickly than the Gigabud. It'll be interesting to see if that continues.
Transplanted into 3 gal fabric pots a on 11/7 into coco coir plus perlite with 2 Tbsp/gal Dr. Earth 4-4-4. I also watered with a fert tea using Dr. Earth 4-4-4 and liquid seaweed on 11/7.
Both plants are looking a little light, and the Gigabud looks like the lowest leaves are yellowing. Last grow I had some yellowing starting to show around this time, but I thought it was due to the poor soil mix. I may just need to use a higher strength mix of the Dr. Earth dry amendments from the start. *Plants have stopped yellowing and new growth looks very healthy. I do think that the problem is light fertility in the seed starting mix. A higher dry amendment rate or fertilizer tea starting earlier in the grow would probably help.
Each plant was watered daily with dechlorinated tap water pH'd to 6.1-6.8. The plants are up to 750ml a day with no runoff.
I topped the Gigabud plant on 11/15. The Afghani #1 was topped on 11/19.
Fed both plants with fertilizer tea made with 1 cup/gal Dr. Earth 4-4-4 dry amendment, 2 Tbsp/gal molasses, and 1/4 strength Liquid Seaweed on 11/16. Both plants are doing really well and I'm seeing how much of a difference not screwing up the soil mix makes. This grow is well ahead of the last grow in veg.
Started some LST this week. It's really noticeable how much further along these plants are at five weeks than the plants from the last grow. It'll be interesting to see how big they are at the end of veg in a few weeks.
Life got a little busy, so I didn't keep up with the daily pics. The plants are really filling in. Some yellowing of the older leaves on the Gigabud plant became apparent a few days after the last top dressing. I'm thinking this was just a nutrient deficiency from not feeding full strength when I switched to 3 gal pots. No signs of deficiency on the Afghani #1 plant.
I was planning to run an 18/6 light cycle through this week, but the plants have filled in more than I expected. With how big they've gotten already I decided to flip to 12/12 on 12/14. I did a little bit of trimming to clear out some of the fan leaves that were blocking growth tips.
