Each individual can claim this to be an effective method or not, it all depends on how well you perform the training method, it can either help you or hurt you.
Lollipoping can make your tops bigger and fatter, however you lose the bottom buds that would give the popcorns.
Overall i think its worth it if you are growing a tall strain, because while the tops mature much faster the popcorn buds are usually a bit late and end up being less mature than your tops wich is how you monitor your plant's maturity, you can do a phased harvest taking the top first and the popcorns later but... idk, its up to you, you're already in flower tho, so its not the best time to perform this. But in a future grow, sure, go for it, you will end up with bigger and denser tops.
The stretch that the popcorns force the plant to do with the bottom branches also take up a lot of energy, so cutting them off before the plant starts to stretch, can help redirect this energy into the main buds.
