Excited to start another grow! Popping 1 feminized Freak Show bean from Humboldt Seed Co and 3 regular Man O War beans from Ocean Grown Seeds. Hoping to get one female MOW so I can focus on just 2 plants but the more the merrier. Soaking the beans in some water right now and once I see their tails gonna throw them in some coco coir amended with Mr. B's Green Tree's 5-5-5. Wish me luck!
So.... Unfortunately with all of your best wishes for good luck... My bad luck took over and none of the seeds fully germinated. The tap roots pop in the water, so I felt like they were ready for the coco. In the middle of the week I just didn't see any growth in any of the seeds. So I dug around and the tap roots was all shriveled up brown and dead😩. I've never had a difficult time germinating before but this time I decided to implement the use of a heating pad. This is the first time trying a heat pad for germinating, I don't think I used it incorrectly. I put it under the tray the cups sat in. Maybe the climate/ heat pad may have been too hot for them? I don't know. Well gonna try and not stress too much about this and move forward
So, not completely bad luck this time but still not so great news. On Thanksgiving day not only was I excited for the holiday but was excited to see that all four seeds have popped out of the soil!!! Felt like my luck had turned around for the good.... But unfortunately it the next couple days I find that only 2 out of the 4 seed have survived. 2 of 3 ManOWars made it and the 1 Freak Show was all shriveled up just like the last one. I have no idea what is going on and it's a little disheartening. But even though my luck hasn't been the greatest so far, I will put my time and focus on these 2 MOW. Let's hope that one of these are female....
And thanks MrJones for the advise with with germinating straight in soil. Will continue use this method for my next grows.
So technically this would be week 2 and so far things going well. They look alive which is exciting. They are slowly stretching up and just being happy healthy seedlings! Right now they're just growing, taking they're time probably imaging how big and beautiful they will become...... Unless they are males....😬

So alot more growth this past week. They are stretching up and out. They are nice and bright green. The growing conditions have been steady and regular, not much fluctuations. MoW #1 has grown nice and symmetrical. MoW #2 not as uniform. One of the top nodes hasn't caught up with the other so it will be interesting how it turns out. For now we will keep them happy and keep an eye on MoW #2's funky growth. On to the next week!
Week "4" went well. Since seed are regular want to get them tested to see if male or female. Let's hope one is female to keep this grow going. The company I'm using for the DNA testing is Farmer Freeman. Used this company the past couple grows and they are easy to use and accurate. A few days after taking a sample they seem to grow about an inch taller. Its always an awesome feeling to see them grow so quickly! Hoping to get results in soon so I can transplant them into a bigger pot. Thanks again for checking on my progress and on to the next week!
Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! Got the results in from Farmer Freeman and MoA #1 Female MoA #2 Male. So getting ready to repot #1 into a 1 gallon and say goodbye to #2. Kinda glad to just have the one to put my focus on to keep maintenance low for myself. She's looking happy and healthy. Onward to next week!
