They in fact ALL have taproots! After the taproots showed 1/2-3/4”, I put them in Rapid Rooter plugs. Lost three to damping off.....I think. I must stop trying something new on a mass scale. But no success without failure! I have started 10 GGC seeds in case I don’t fill all 32 vacant rockwool cubes.
Growth not as much, but healthy and strong over all, as I would have liked to see. Possible the low humidity is to blame, but with two humidifiers going, it’s the best I can do without buying a commercial humidifier. Perhaps next year. All other basic parameters are on point.
This week I increased the flood to 3 times per daylight. The plants responded well with decent growth. One or two more weeks then flowering. All but 4 are topped. Unfortunately it pains me to say, but one lady has passed on due to my over coddling. Never break your own rules like I did: if it’s healthy, leave it be.
The remaining girls are strong and healthy. Growth was WAY better! Note to self and others, quick drain rockwool will require 3 floods per day. One more week til flower.
What a difference a week can make. Installed SCROG nets upon realizing that LST was going to be difficult with this set up. Also hurried into switching to flower and broke on of my HPS bulbs. Ordered immediately, but until then, it’s 12/12 with half HPS and half MH!
Busy week bending and sorting through the nets but it all pays off and it was as though the plants didn’t even notice.
I’m running hotter nuits then even the manufacturer’s chart. Vigorous growth. Finally got the HPS lamp in near the end of this week.
Lollipoping/defoliation completed at the very beginning of the week. Some will argue that’s too late. But I find I get better yields if I wait till the last minute. They will be left alone for the rest of the grow.
Started mid week bumping up to 1250ppm as the stretch has stopped.
That caused a little nuit burn, so dialled back to 1150ppm.
Very happy at the start of the week.
Noticed mid week that nuit burn continued even after returning ppm to 1150...so dialed back further to 1000ppm. Noticed ppm increase after a flood. So clearly right after the stretch, I needed to drop back the nuits until buds start to pack on. Not considering a flush, but it’s not out of my mind either.
Discovered a meter battery was weak and not showing the true strength of the nuits. I was feeding a booming 2400ppm!
By the end of the week, nuits were back under control. I’ll hold steady 1050-1100 ppm or 2.2EC according to my meter with fresh batteries.
Starting the week healthy after a week of recovering from nuit burn.
Strong growth continues and added a 3000W LED in the middle.
Lights as far up as possible and raised the reflective curtain to capture the escaping light.
The tallest tops do not appreciate the speed two of the fans. Lowered to speed one and added an oscillating fan to move air below the canopy.
Continue to remove large fan leaves not receiving light.
Noticed a possible calcium deficiency. My water supply is not RO but does come in at 50ppm, so I will allow more pH drift 6.0-6.4.
3 days into the week and that was a calcium and magnesium deficiency. And it went further than it should have. My bad. Increased the MagnifiCal to match the other nuits. Symptoms stopped in a couple days but the past 7 days have seen slow/stalled growth because of it. I plan on learning this strain inside and out. So I will adjust feeding next time to avoid this.
Mid week: Well fuck! I just checked my reservoir and temperature was 9C!!! Immediately installed water heater to heat to 18C.
I feel like I’ve tripped over the past couple weeks and the girls have grown more in spite of me than because of me. Testament to the genetics for sure. Last three weeks of flower and looking for some fattening. Every parameter is dialled in.
Experiencing light burn as expected in the areas centred under each light. I knew after the stretch this would happen. But that’s ok, the rest of the grow is doing well
Switched to straight pH’d H2O.....and then looked at trichome and switched right back to nuits. Only one flood with H2O. 90% still clear at the beginning of the week.
Trichome monitoring for all cloudy and about 10-20% amber.
Looked ready to flush at +6 days....changed to straight H20.
The start of the week with straight H2O and managing the runoff to aim for <0.4 EC. Expecting to harvest by the end of the week.
Struggling just to keep <0.5 EC without full reservoir changes every day.
Getting <0.3 EC by draining the reservoir 80% and adding fresh everyday.
With some amber trichomes showing, they are ready to harvest.
Will post back after curing 2 weeks after drying 7-10 days with the final numbers
You can tell the genetics are strong. There were no 1oz tops but that was my bad for crowding. The trichome production and the potency were both amazing. Smoke at first was a little harsh but nicely mellowed out after about 12 days into curing.
Lots of trim from these plants to use for hash and canna butter. Update coming when that is done.
You learn from every grow. I will do another Wedding Cake grow, but in soil and less plants per sq ft and per watt. These had explosive growth as it entered the stretch. I over fed believing an unknown to me uncalibrated meter, causing a calcium lockout (confirmed on harvest from hollow stems).
Stay tuned for the next one and see if I can’t get this strain to produce 80oz from 12 plants in soil.
