First week of germination of my second attempt with Runtz Muffin after decapitated a two week old seedling. Currently moving these between my grow spaces as my flowering chamber has been free'd up. I'll leave these in here for a month before I flower the Shiva clones I've kept in the back.
My plan is to bonsai the stronger of these seeds to pull clones for a perpetual grow. I've got two Tropicanna F1 seedlings that I want to stick in flowering after the Shiva so my next 6 months of grows look solid. This could be a hella long diary so be warned.
Feeding them very watered down Canna nutes right now, ppm held at around 800 but already impressed by these seeds. They are catching up with the Tropicanna even though there was a week between germination. Picked the most colourful seeds so fingers crossed I get some colourful plants. The first pheno looks the stronger so already the early leading candidate for the bonsai which is good as only 2 of my 3 seeds germinated (one came from Barneys with a crack in it and on closer inspection it looked hollowed out 😠). I feel like you can really tell the initial health of the seedling from the seed itself. I wasn't surprised the third seed failed to sprout and unsurprised that Pheno 001 was the strongest as it was clearly the healthiest of the three seeds.
So roughly two weeks in I’ve started feeding these two Runtz full veg nutes but flushing regularly. Pheno 002 got chewed on by an aphid or two but I think I killed the little fuckers before it got out of control, though no knowing at this stage. I moved this pheno out of my grow room for the short term to make sure there’s no cross contamination.
I’ve grown these in custom made plastic pots and kept a dome on them to keep the humidity as high as possible. The soil is a mix of coco, worm castings, coffee grounds, perlite and bat guano but worried that it’s all a bit too much for seeds. Concerned it will cause some stunted growth with nutrient lock out although zero signs of over feeding so far.
Really looking forward to seeing these grow up, I’ve seen some awesome diaries on here with this strain.
Update: the runtz got some serious nute burn I think from feeding full strength veg nutes too early. Beginners unluck. I shoulda managed better considering the worm castings and bat guano. I’m going to kill off the second pheno and focus on pheno 001 which will hopefully recover. A bit concerned to see the brown spots on pheno 001 - not sure if that’s part of the nute burn or a bigger problem. Any advice would be welcome...
Fixed the problem with the plant by repotting it in the fabric bag to let the roots breath properly. I’ll learn for next time to not use homemade plastic pots without proper drainage. She is bouncing back nicely, looking forward to seeing her grow in size over the next few weeks. I’m planning on mainlining this as I’ll be using her as a mother plant until I have space in my flowering chamber.
Runty is around 21 days old at time of writing but will update with more pics towards the end of the week as she starts putting on more weight.
So after bouncing back from the issues with the soil I’ve seemingly run into some other root problems. Concerned it could be fungus gnats as I’ve seen one or two suspicious flies in the grow room, hence why I moved Runty to a sanitised closet. She is very droopy and has lost the rich green she just reacquired.
I’ve also got some strange deficiency on the leaves which look like ph problems. Not sure what else it could be but any advice would be great. My inexperience is very much showing in this plant.
Ok so a slow week for young Runty who like last week seems a little too pale and droopy. I upped the feed with little difference so far so I repotted to see if the roots needed new medium to thrive.
The deficiencies are really slowing the growth, I’d expected this to be at least double the size by now. But I can’t help tinkering and experimenting! As I’m still learning I don’t really mind about making mistakes and this plant will be a mother so Im not in a rush. Hoping for an abundant bounty of beautiful Runtz at the end of this! Not sure if it should be already happening but the plants leaves are already showing signs of some beautiful shades. 🤞🏽
