First pics here are exactly one week from seed. This is a (hopefully) 4 plant grow with 4 different strains. Keeping a separate diary for each. I made some small changes from the last grow. Most notable is I’m using 3/4 RO water as my TDS is coming out of the tap at 300. Seeds are all from herbies outside of the grape ape f2 from bat country farms. Was given those seeds so thought I would give a plant a spin.
It’s been challenging keeping temps and humidity up. The inline fan is pulling in a lot of cool basement air. I put a timer on that inline so the fan is on for 50 minutes and off for 10. That 10 minutes gets the temp/humidity up and by the time they are coming back down the fan turns off again. Hopefully that solves it.
PH meter needed recalibration this week. Leaves on plants in both reservoirs started twisting and sure enough the meter was off and running ph values of about 5. Other than that she looks fine. I’ll do a res change this week as I haven’t done one yet and it’s due. Probably going to flip the lights in 2-3 weeks.
Day 24 leaves running a little dark and even a couple burnt tips. Seems to be a little too hot at 0.82 Ec which is surprising, but 2 different strains seem to have the same attitude about that level. I’m going to ease it off slightly.
Day 28 looking good. Will top shortly.
Starting the week by topping. I’m usually a little paranoid and wait until they are well established. This is sharing a res with a passion fruit strain and both are doing great. Lux is now up to 28k at the top of the canopy and will likely let it go to the low 30’s. Planning to flip the lights at 6 weeks. Changed the prefilter for my carbon filter and it’s pulling more air through which has lowered temps and humidity.
Did some slight defoliation because she is so short and dense. Also raised the lights slightly to appease my wife who is seemingly jealous of girls who are short and dense, but not of girls who are tall and lanky. Seems backwards. Things a pig lately for both water and nutes, the plant that is not my wife.
Flipped the lights 2 days into the week but we are going to call this a veg week anyway. Plant looks healthy, and I’ve started defoliating a little more heavily. The scrog is up and ready. The evil plan is finally coming together.
This is sharing a res with a passion fruit strain in another diary. This is the bigger of the 2. Pictures don’t show it well, but she takes up a good amount of space. Kind of wide and short like a female Danny Devito.
Snapped a branch today @#*&#! F*** hope the thing heals like wolverine.
Snapped branch healing fine. Truly cannabis is the cockroach of the plant kingdom.
Getting to do some bending with my scrog
Lux is at 35k at the canopy. Plan to get that up to about 50k, but easing it in.
Getting a pretty nice flat looking canopy. I’ve been bending doing a lot of branch bending which is actually a lot more effective than the scrog. She has tons of bud sites, and I’m optimistic that it’s going to be a haul if I don’t hose it up. Highest lux on the canopy is now about 50k.
Pretty happy with how even the canopy is turning out here, and we should be almost through stretch.
Progressing decently this week with some of the flowers starting to grow together to form full fledged buds. Stretch has pretty much stopped and we are working on cleaning up some of the undergrowth of leaves. I’m not thrilled about defoliating this late but the plant is so dense with leaves that as the leaves themselves grow we need to pluck them to keep some air flow. Light height is dialed in. Lux isn’t uniform but seeing a range of about 40k to 55k across the canopy which works.
- Not much to say. We are kind of on autopilot seeing how big the buds are going to get.
3/10 a little disappointed in bud progression at the moment, but this stuff is super sticky and frosty.
I’m a little disappointed with how leafy this strain is. The sugar leaves have been choking off my buds leading me to defoliate sugar leaves to give the little girls some room to grow.
Been a little disappointed with the bud progress. I suspect too much nitrogen may be part of the problem here. That would explain the leafiness, darker leaves and slow growth. It may not be as bad as I think as the buds are really dense. I’m just not sure if anything decent is under all those sugar leaves. They’ve been drinking a lot and eating less so I’ll be backing off on EC. Also changing my gh trio mix and getting rid of the grow altogether for the rest of the way.
Spoiler I chopped after 8 weeks. This one just progressed way faster than I anticipated with very brown pistils. A couple of trichomes pics and some of the drying weed will comprise our pictures. The bud was super leafy but fortunately there was a decent amount of bud underneath all that. I’ll be back in a week or two for a report on weight and the smoke. I’m optimistic that the final weight will be respectable.
I have mixed feelings about this strain.
The good:
Potent - the high is excellent and strong
Sticky - trichomes and resin were pretty solid
Yield - 4 ounces is quite respectable
The bad:
Flavor - It doesn’t taste terrible, but it’s not great either. Kind of so so really.
Leafy - Dear God leaves everywhere. This thing took forever to trim.
Overall this was a decent strain. I don’t regret growing it, but don’t think I would do another.
