The Ducks & Widows are doing ok. Just some minor light burn issues that I need to watch.
Finally installed the automatic watering system (Blumat). It’s a simple gravity fed system with a pressure sensing dispersion unit, which means it’s regulating automatically, and hence is compatible with hand watering (in case I feel like wanting to add some extra nutrients). The water is piped from a 25l AutoPot Flexitank that I put on top of the grow tent.
Once this is tuned in, I should be able to leave them alone for one or two weeks without having to worry too much with that setup. That’s btw. also one reason I chose the BioTabs nutrients line, as you can run a full grow without having to worry too much about nutrients. You’ll probably be fine by just adding water.
We‘re roughly half through this grow, and it was an interesting week. Both of the widows showed rapid growth. The ducks are significantly slower, while one of them stayed significantly smaller. Interestingly, the smaller duck looks quite a bit more dense and overall healthier than the taller one.
Regarding the Blumat drip system: I added a second dripper to each of the pots for a more even water distribution, and will do this right from the start next time.
Had to dim the lights back to 80% in order to avoid more light burn. Although I didn’t initially plan to defoliate, I took off quite a few leaves in order to improve light and air flow to avoid problems down the road with this constrained space.
We‘re approaching the last couple of weeks until harvest, which will be mostly about buds fattening and ripening, I guess.
One can really smell the widows’ CBD Sweet and Sour Widow parent coming through quite strongly, as the first association and main flavor is onion chutney.
What’s interesting is that the plants in the front of the tent grew notably larger than the ones in the back. Given that there’s no difference in light distribution, and I can’t think of any other significant differences, I guess it must be a microclimate issue, maybe related to airflow and ventilation. Btw., while the in-line fan is running all the time, the recirculating fan does not, and I’m using the timer switch’s random program for it. What do you folks think about this? Have you had experiences similar to this?
Things have been slowing down, and now its just about leaving them alone and waiting for the buds to ripen a bit more.
I’ve meanwhile turned off the drip watering system, and gave them one last round of manual watering. Now I’ll let them dry out so I can harvest next weekend.
@HighZenBerg, cheers, I'm excited to follow your grow as well :) Well, and this one is also my first indoor grow and the 2nd time I'm growing it. And yes, it's an awesome strain that has been a perfect ornamentation for my city balcony last summer :)
However, as I tend to prefer strains that have a roughly similar amount of CBD and THC when it comes to the effects, I decided to do a little breeding experiment crossing it with CBD Auto White Widow. My hope is that with those two strains being stepsisters there won't be too many generations of inbreeding required to get to a somewhat stable "CBD Auto Duck"…
Hello! Such interesting strain your auto duck, their leaves so peculiar and they are looking fine, but I doubt they will be ready next weekend, they are still pushing pistils and they just started to bulk up, you are going to have bigger buds in 2/3 weeks...
I also have tendency to harvest to soon, really our buds should looks like there is seeds in them, all swollen...
