Soil mix: 3 parts topsoil, 3 parts sphagnum moss 2 parts perlite 1 part worm castings. This is also the mix I'll be using for my Autos (might bump up the castings for the autos though). These plants will start their veg in this mix, but will be transplanted to a more nutrient rich mix when they're ready to veg out. Unfortunately I didn't have much luck sourcing Perlite and Sphagnum that weren't Miracle Grow products. I tried to mitigate the added fertilizer by using non-MG top soil and castings. My cheap soil pH/fertility meter didn't quite hit the "Ideal" range and was just in the not enough area, I'm hoping that means I'll have headroom to add nutrients in the future. I suppose I won't know for sure until veg starts fully and the seedlings are using nutrients from the soil. For their veg transplant I plan on using 2-3 tbls of molasses in the water for the initial water. I'll check pH before I water though, and adjust with Cal-Mag as needed.
Started germ Friday (1/8), both had popped by Saturday (1/9) morning. Put them in starter pots Saturday night, 1/4 inch taproot on Rainbow jones, 1/8th tap on Jawa Glue.
1/11/20. Finally popped out of the soil, Jones is growing quick, Jawa is still being a bit more sedate. Moved the light closer to help prevent reaching. Watered both with 4 squirts from a plastic pipette style eyedropper. Will switch to misting in future. Keeping tent at relatively constant 75 degrees F, and as close to 50% humidity as I can. Exhaust fan has been turned on without exhaust vent attached to provide some airflow. 24/0 Light schedule.
18/6 lighting started 1/13/20. Also adding molasses to the water. Jawa seems to be a short plant, but appears to be maturing quicker. Rainbow is reaching for the sky still, but is starting to fill out more.
1/15/20 to me it looks like the first node is forming, so we're doing well this week. They've also been named, because everything needs a name. Jawa Glue will now be referred to as Margaret, and rainbow Jones has earned the moniker Anastasia. Hopefully it's not adamstasia lol 🤞
Added half a teaspoon bone meal to both with their water (added to the soil before watering) the mix they're in is fairly low on nutes, so I wanted to add some slow release to help with their early life. I'll provide them a more nutritional mix when I transplant them next week probably. So far the plan is to transplant next week and top them the week after, hopefully that'll not stunt them too much. Training (lst) would start the following week.
1/25/21: Transplanted them the 23rd, thought I'd lose rainbow after a rather poor transplanting job, but they're still growing well. Grow mix is 4 parts worm castings, 3 parts manure/compost, 1 part top soil, 2 parts sphagnum moss, 1 part perlite. I also added 1 cup bone meal and half a cup blood meal. Plants are doing well, watered with molasses water today.
I'm not going to lst these, they won't get the veg time I originally wanted, and I can't be as long term with them as I wanted. I'll have to flower these two much sooner than I wanted in hopes that they'll be done before a sudden and unplanned move. Since I won't get as much yeild I'll be a lot more on top of their quality control.
