The seeds and Rapid Rooters were soaked ~18 hours in RO water in the dark. I started my first grow with bagseeds about a month ago and they're doing 'okay'. Hoping that these stronger genetics will perform a bit better. I've learned some tough lessons with my bagseed experiments so far, but that being said, I have yet to complete a full-grow/harvest, so plenty more mistakes inbound.
DAY ONE: Today, March 7, 2021, at 4:20pm EST, I placed the Rapid Rooter plugs in the humidity dome, put the seeds in, and turned on the warming mat beneath. I only turned the light on for the picture. They will receive weak, indirect light from the Vegging station below. I plan to keep my Germ/Clone station light off until both seedlings have popped, and their true leaves begin to appear.
DAY THREE: Yesterday I checked on the seedlings to find that the roots were poking out instead of the seedling. They had germinated upside down in the Rapid Rooter plugs. I needed to rip open those rapid rooters and adjust the seedlings like a Cesarean Section. I was worried that the process put too much stress on the roots, but Day 3 is here and they look healthy, and their true leaves are beginning to poke out.
DAY SEVEN: Today, I've completely done away with the humidity dome top, after intermittently putting it on/cracking it open/taking it off. I am surprised how leggy the Lucky Charms seedling is, as well as how quickly its developing. The White Widow seedling is looking healthy after turning it upright. Hoping that these two babes will out-grow my other plants within a few weeks.
Growth this week has been much faster than I expected. My first two bagseed plants must really have sub-par genetics in comparison--either that or the Rapid Rooter plugs really are THAT good.
Either way, I'm about to pop these babes into some 4in pots.
Its just been straight RO water up until now. Will begin a light nutrient regimen once they're in soil.
DAY 15: When I pulled the plugs out of the tray I couldn't believe how long the roots were. They had crawled so far through the hole in the bottom of the plug tray, that I had to take a step away from it with the plant in my hand to fully get it all out. Like twice the length of a spaghetti noodle. Perhaps a sign that they've been ready to be transplanted for some time. We'll see how they like their new homes.
DAY 19: Growth has slowed-down noticeably after transplanting. But they seem to be adjusting fine-- no signs of any deficiencies. Having gotten used to how quickly my other plants consume water, it took me by surprise to see the dirt still wet when I went to water them. Like having to remember how to handle a baby once your first kid becomes a toddler. (I have no kids btw). I'm about to transplant my experiment plants into 5-gallon pots, so I can totally fuck that up, learn from the mistakes, and allow these little babies a fighting chance against my not-so-green-thumb lol
DAY 21: Whelp this is getting a bit repetitive-- Things are going well. I am going to start only updating once a week, or mid-week if something interesting happens. But for now; steady as she goes.
DAY 23: Over the weekend I left for 2 days. Basically a non-factor, but its the first time I ever left my plants like that. The smart outlet worked perfectly as I controlled my light cycles remotely. To be cautious, I gave them a little extra water before leaving, but also turned the heat up slightly to compensate. When I came back there was obvious growth and they were both just as happy as when I'd left. On another note, my suspicions of the Lucky Charms plant being a male have only gotten stronger. Its almost twice as big and tall as its White Widow compadre. I gave a quick google search to try and find out why the Lucky Charms is such a limey green, but every explanation I could find was tied to growth issues. Either way I like its color. To me it screams vitality. Just hoping its a feminine vitality lol.
DAY 24: I noticed the Lucky Charms was a few hours into growing a 6th node, and seeing how tall it already was I decided to go in and top it. Typically I like to follow the rule-of-thumb of not Topping before the 30-day mark, but she's so far along I figured she could handle some tough love a few days early haha
DAY 30: Lucky Charms has been slow to recover from the topping on 6 days ago. Most likely botched that one. I topped the White Widow yesterday and it seems and hasn't skipped a beat. The Lucky Charm's roots have penetrated the Pete Pot, which it whats apparently supposed to happen, though this is the first time its actually worked. Lucky Charms is obviously longing for a bigger pot, but I still don't know if it's a male or not, so I'm hesitant to invest the pot/soil, just yet. White Widow having been a feminized seed, I'd put it in a bigger pot the moment it asked for it, but she's a slow grower.
DAY 32: So the Lucky Charms' new growth was coming up deformed from my poorly-executed topping last week. Producing leaves that reminded me of Scary Movie 2. "Take mah strong hand!" So I topped it again (this time correctly), to reset it into growing the way nature intended. Still waiting for the plant to prove me wrong about it being a male. White Widow is my slow and steady tortoise, but she's showing tight inter-nodal spacing, so I'm expecting a good bushy plant structure out of her.
DAY 34: The Lucky Charms was starting to get root-bound with roots that permeated through the Pete Pots binding too, so I potted it up. I still believe the Lucky Charms to be a male, so sexing pots seemed like a good idea. Even though the White Widow is a feminized seed, I figured I'd repot her while I was at it. I guess I didn't get a perfect topping on the White Widow as one of the four shoots is tiny and deformed. Lucky Charm's deformed growth was largely removed earlier this week, with just two deformed leaves remaining to support the new top split. It's kind of fascinating to watch this thing pump leaves out by any means necessary. While it is a product of a mistake, at this point in my growing career, every result is novelty, good or bad. Just happy to be here.
DAY 38: Whelp, mark down another critical error for this grow! I gave too much wind to my White Widow plant. Gahhhhhhhhddammit lol. Lower leaves are flopping, new growth showing brown. Most of the damage is localized to one side. She was only near the fan for about 2 hours, but that was enough to completely destroy her. Deep sigh. Any-who, I'm praying I can prune this lady up and get her going again. I always post on Sundays, but literally waited until now (Monday night), to post in hopes of giving the White Widow more time to heal. But if anything, it seems to have gotten a touch worse. So I figured I'd come face the music; post my failures. I mean, it is a diary. Gotta stick to the facts.
DAY 39: So I cut out all the brown and wilted growth from the White Widow and she is looking stupid af haha. Praying that I can still manage a somewhat decent plant out of her. If she survives, she'll definitely look unique lol. Lucky Charms is cruising right along.
DAY 42: Lucky Charms is killing it. I really hope its a girl; such a perfect plant. White Widow on the other hand... its hard to tell if she's even recovering or not. I think she is. There seems to be new growth starting, but in some places it is coming out wilted. The next week or so should be interesting. Im wondering what sort of LST I should do for such a lop-sided plant.
DAY 43: Sooo we got Good News and Bad News haha.
** Bad News: I am now 95% sure that the Luck Charms plant is a male. You guys are probably like "Duhhh" after seeing that size comparison haha. I'm going to let it rock a bit longer just to make sure.
** Good News: Looks like the White Widow is pulling through! A blast of new growth has turned what I thought was a lost cause, into an LST-able little plant. Starting small, but will get a little more stressful later in the week to try and even her out.
** All-in-all: This run is a shitshow central marathon, even though the White Widow will likely make for a solid plant in the coming weeks. But with the weight[wait] of this lack luster run, I am readying root plugs for my next diary. Might even do a diary per plant. Helps the info be a little more accurate for others. Overkill? Who knows.
DAY 45: I'm really holding out for this Lucky Charms to suck those baby balls back in and spit out some pistils haha. So happy that White Widow seems to be coming back with a vengeance! With a little LST, I've managed to get this globular canopy going, like a very small tree. Out of the 3 bagseed plants I've ever had, this Lucky Charms will be my 2nd male. Poor luck :/ I just ordered some more gear to really prepare my setup for the next run. So in a way I'm looking forward to just ditching the Lucky Charms, focusing on the White Widow.
DAY 53: A lot has changed, yet not much has happened. I wanted to make 1000000% sure that the Lucky Charms is a male, so I took it out of the tent, and have been giving it 12/12 of sunlight to get those pre-flowers popping. If it turns out to be a female, then I will revert it back to veg nad put it back in the tent. Meanwhile, the White Widow is still the steady yet slow-growing son of a bitch its always been.
I just put my first plant ever (bagseed, no diary) into Flower a few days ago so I had to adjust the setup of my tent a bit- putting up a divider to split the tent into veg and flower. This space was also a bit crammed for Lucky Charms. So I just bit the bullet and tossed it in the Flowering section.
DAY 59: The Lucky Charms has been very stubborn in revealing its sex. I think I have a confirmed pollen sack posted above, but will wait another day or two to make sure. Its giving me low-level anxiety worrying about it pollinating my flowering female in the same room.
The White Widow is itching for some training and a larger pot. I've been using LST to try and open her up, but by the next day, a bushy node has filled the void. Unfortunately, the veg area of my tent is a bit tight, and it will be another 6 weeks or so before the flowering room is available for late-veg. I also just started 2 clones and 3 seedlings so its about to get packed in there lol. A work around for this would be to switch the WW to a 5-gal soon, keep it in the flowering room for the 12 hours of light [lights in the flowering room are on during nighttime hours (KEEPS ELECTRIC BILL DOWN)], then pull it out in the morning for an extra 6 hrs of sunshine. This would free up room for the incoming babies, as well as liberate the WW from the tight space. Because I have a feeling this White Widow is going to be a monster of a plant pretty soon.
DAY 65: Whelp, 8 weeks of shaming, abuse, experimentation, more shaming, and neglect-- the Lucky Charms plant is a f***ing female! Absolutely in-shock. I was so happy to learn she's a girl, but at the same moment was filled with so much regret, for how much better I could have treated this plant/how much larger I could have grown it. Just wow. So I took a clone cutting. It was a little small, but hopefully she takes because this plant is more resilient than a cockroach!!
The White Widow plant is steady bushin' in the veg area with the little ones. I really love how short and stocky I've managed to get this plant through all the LST. Its starting to feel. like a bonsai tree. It has certainly earned its adulthood after the catastrophe it endured in Week-5.
DAY 68: The re-potting of the Lucky Charms stunted its growth as expected, but its got a long way to stretch, so it should be able to utilize most of the new space. Itching to repot the White Widow. She's ready. Im just short on medium and space at the moment :/
DAY 73: The Lucky Charms is just starting to come out of the stunting from potting her up, and should be ready to double in size with the new room and the stretch in early flower. Very excited to see how she transforms. The clone cut I took off the LC has still yet to root, but looks very good, so I'm hoping to get another go at this strain, with more TLC.
Since my flowering room is currently full, I'm still waiting on potting the White Widow up. Since the White Widow is still in veg I've just been LST'ing the hell out of her. And she's been handling it super well. She's a Bondage Queen lol.
DAY 80: The Lucky Charms is growing fast and looks sooo healthy, especially in comparison to my bagseed plant next to it lol. The clone cutting has still yet to root, but looks like its its going to make it. Very excited to see the flower from this beautiful plant. The White Widow remains in veg, and will be potted up any day now I promise! She had one mainline that was outpacing the rest of her branches so I topped it, as well as removed a upper canopy leaf that was blocking some baby nodes, so that line should bush out and slow down finally.
DAY 87: So I finally repotted the White Widow, though, still not into a 5-gallon. I have a second tent on the way that I'll use strictly for vegging and will allow me to the room to veg out in larger pots with more freedom. I also gave the White Widow some much needed defoliation, and now I can finally see the structure of the plant. I also topped two of her tallest colas to let the rest of the canopy catch up.
The Lucky Charms is moving right along. She has a very lemony smell to her. Maybe even closer to a Skittles smell. Also happy to say that the Lucky Charms clone has rooted, and this plant's legacy and beast genetics will continue.
DAY 97: Lucky Charms smells fantastic. And she's just starting to plump up now. I am super excited to smoke this one as the quality is going to be amazing.
Story time: My 12 month lease got terminated 6 months early, last week. The owner of the house is selling it and, as of today, we have 50 days to get out and somewhere else. So I can't flower the White Widow as soon as I'd hoped. I can't flower anything until we get into the new spot and my veg area is getting CROWDED. I have a new place lined up but I'm stressing about moving all this shit 2 hours, and twice as worried that I may have to find a motel or something for a day or two while our new house is ready for move-in. At that point, I literally have no idea what Im going to do with any of the plants. Life is crazy. But since I wont even be flowering the White Widow until this move is complete, I'll keep ya updated on how it all goes. 🙏
The White Widow wants nothing more than to be in the Flowering room. Even if the lease thing wasn't happening, I still need to work on my timing. I've been popping beans a little too soon and now I have 3.5 waves of plants in a major traffic jam lol.
Okay guys, so I know I left off the last one with a bit of a story so here's the update:
Just bought a house and now hoping that we can get a closing date within the allotted time to vacate by our landlord. That said, once I do get in there, my setup will get a lot better with time as well.
Anyways, back to the weed...
DAY 104: Lucky Charms is loving having the flowering room to herself. And she's starting to get realllll chunky. Pretty excited to smoke this one as the terpenes on her are insane. The White Widow is struggling. She's far too big for the lights, and area that she's in. But currently there's not much I can do about it. She has nowhere to go as I can't push any more plants into flower with so few days left until I move to the new house.
DAY 109: The Lucky Charms aka Lucky Chunk, is looking thicc lately. She smells amazing, perfectly healthy, all colas. The White Widow has offically out grown the veg room, since she was basically smothering everything else in there, so I'm using the flower room for 12 hrs, then supplementing with another 6 hours of sunlight. So it's become a lot of moving around. Also, you can see at the base of the White Widow pot, her roots are just dumping out of the bottom. By the time I am able to let her flower (probably not for another 4 weeks, the way this move is looking -__- ) she will be an absolute monster of a plant and dominate the entire flower room, adding further delays to my other plants. Its just crazy over here. Once I get into the new place, I promise to have much cleaner, timely diaries lol
DAY 118: So the Lucky Charms is beginning to get some amber trichomes on the rims of her sugar leaves, so I'll probably be putting her into 3 days of darkness mid-next week, to prep her for chopping. Her nose is the EXACT scent of a lemon skittle. She's got pleasantly chunky colas and I can't wait to harvest her.
The White Widow has been getting window treatment ever since she out grew my veg area. You can see she's stretching as its been pretty overcast the past couple of days. She will be an absolute monster once I get these long shoots under the Scrog and open her up for Flowering. That likely won't happen until I've moved into my new place, at the end of this month.
But once I can get the Lucky Charms into the finishing/drying tent, I can get the entire tent back into veg mode, take down the divider wall, put the White Widow back in under the LED, as well as my other veg babies who've been feeling claustrophobic and neglected in that small veg area of the tent. I was going to make diaries for those. Still might, but the past month or so has been so crazy, I just haven't had the time.
DAY 125: I've been waiting for this day for awhile! Finally got enough amber trichs on the Lucky Charms to take it out of the grow tent and into the dry tent. She will get 48 hours of darkness, and the get the chop. She's smelling exactly like a lemon skittle, its uncanny.
Moving the Lucky Charms out of the grow tent has freed up the space for vegging, which was much needed. Aside from the White Widow, I also have 3 other plants that needed the space as well.
The White Widow, really stretched in the days I had it growing in window sunlight, so after a good repotting into the fabric 5 gal, I topped the shoots to even out the canopy. She'll need some defoliating underneath pretty soon, but figured the change-up of light schedule, the repotting and the topping was enough stress for today 😂
By the time I get into my new house next month, and get all my tents set up, the White Widow is going to be an absolute monster. And hopefully with all my tents set up, I will never have to deal with this silly space issue again.
I honestly feel like this is some of the best bud I've ever had. Maybe its the TLC that dispensaries can't provide en mass, coupled with top-tier genetics, and having it fresh--- but gee f***ing wizz. I've been toking it for a week now, and I went from 10 bowl packs/day to 2/day max. It is so strong, it makes me dizzy. Tastes and smells identical to a Lemon Italian Ice/Lemon Skittle. Its a very sweet lemon.
I don't have single complaint. I love this strain and will absolutely be growing more in the future! Great bud structure, never a yellow leaf, just overall badass plant. Very happy I took a clone lol.
