After 4 days the seedling broke the surface. No shell problems and that is good. This is my first photo period. My plans are to do some cloning, topping and breeding. If this turns out to be a male I will do some creation of my own seeds. Wk 1 is Feb 24-March 2. I was quite frustrated, I got 8 photo seeds and this is the last one and only one to make it. The ones that didn't make it are Lemon Haze x Chemdog (2), G6, Bubba Kush, Pineapple Chunk (2) and I threw out the Chocolate Mint today. I actually soaked the seed for 24 hours and paper towel for 48 hours. Then for 4 days I used a plastic bog to maintain the humidity. Once broke the surface this morning, no more bag. Every day I would spray distilled water and put the plant back into the ziplock. I also used the radio to keep the soaked seed and the paper towel seed area warm. I think that was the secret to the 8th seed's success. The seedling will start 4 feet from the light and work up 6" each day until about 24" from the light. I also plan to transplant as needed. Photos can suffer through transplanting. I'm not even using the compostable planter. Hopefully after the second set of leaves I will do some chopping and or wait and do some cloning. This will be complicated especially as Spring is coming. If possible I can give this plant to my neighbor.
Week 1: Feb 24-March 2. It is growing about 1 inch per weak. Trying to keep the stalk from getting weak. Only the first set of leaves are showing so far. Progressively moved closer to the light and increased the water amount. Now it is at 10ml of compost tea every other day and 10ml of rain water every other day. It is in a 4" X 4" X 4" container for now.
Wk 2: Mar 3-9. Doing LST without even trying. The second set of leaves are present. Now I'm using a fork to brace the plant. The plant has a C shaped stalk, bends out and then bends back in. Planning to replant in about 2 weeks. Also planning to move outside in 2 weeks, depending on the weather. I'm in South East Michigan in the United States.
Week 3 is March 10-March 16. The second set of leaves is still smaller than the first set of leaves. The plant fell over and had propped up with a fork. The third leaflets are only showing on half the second set of leaves.
No grow techniques in week 4. The five node is just now appearing. It is too early to cut that off. Do I wait so I can clone that 1 inch piece about the 5 node? So I'm thinking I won't even know if this is a male or female for at least 5 more weeks.
I actually did my first top ever. It looks fantastic. I've attempted to clone the top as well. There is going to be a 3 day cold spell and then I can possibly use the green house.
This plant has been transplanted from a 4x4 to a 1 gallon. I'm saying that is like going from 0.1 gal to 1.0 gal, a 10x increase. There was a root after 5 weeks starting to come out. I've mounded up the stem making the plant get shorter. The distance to the light has been changing due to growth, repositioning and replanting. This could be planted in the actual dirt outside, around June 1. That decision depends on how it does with a 1 gallon. This is a new experience in planting so I'm not sure how the results are turning out. Hopefully sometime before that I can get 1-3 clones, the more the better. I still don't know if this is a male or a female and because it is a photo I won't know until it is growing in a 12-12 setting. Outside that is October 13 in the fall as we are pretty close to 12-12 now since it is still April. Inside that is anytime after 10 weeks, depending on how big it is. All the leaves so far are 3 pointed. The top where it split is showing the second set of leaves. Probably in 3 more weeks I can top again.
This plant is outside and the second set of leaves are showing on the two branches that formed when it was toped a couple of weeks ago. Tonight it might get cold so not sure the long term plans of planting this one in the ground yet. Some people say in June which is 6 weeks away.
The clones are actually growing. Weather is still cold. Not sure if all this cloning and topping is going to do any good because I'm not sure of the gender of this plant.
Lots and lots of topping going on. I've gotten 4 tops to clone so far. The one pictured on April 30, had the root coming out the bottom, so I gave it away. Hard to believe this is week 10 and as a photo, no flowers. I did 4 more tops yesterday and 2 more today. The garden picture is where I placed those really small tops right into the dirt. Come June 1 I might transplant straight into dirt the whole thing. It is in a 1 gallon pot and doing better then the autos that are in 4 gallon pots. The autos are about 6 weeks younger so there is that.
No topping this week. Bottom leaves seem yellow. Moved plant out to the garden. Not flowering even though it is 3 months old because it needs 12-12. No topping this week. Rained hard and the plant got drenched.
The big news this week, this is my first plant actually in the ground. Strawberry Kush has given me a few viable clones. One is a topping that is in the ground but I doubt that will grow. Another is technically on a third set of leaves, but in a 2 inch small pot. Before I had the chance to move that one to the ground, I decided last night, the roots were showing, the plant was turning yellow, maybe it needed to be in a bigger pot than 1 gallon so I went and took the plunge. I started this plant on Feb 22 so you do the math this is probably 13 weeks old. Yeah that's it I know this is a diary so I feel I've got a right to ramble. I deliberately skipped a week.
I was away for a week. It rained everyday so the person watching the plants didn't water. They don't look much different. I upped the measurement by 3 inches as I don't really know.
I've not done any topping this week. The plant is now growing on every other branch. I'm not sure the technical term for that. I've got 2 good clones one foot and 3 foot tall, also growing that way.
Topped and decided that this non-flowering photo could give me some over the legal limit clones. 6 clones alive and Strawberry Kush still grew 11 inches.
I gave away 6 clones to get myself down to the legal limit of 12 plants. In the front of the original plant in the ground is a clone bigger than one of my autos.
This is the last week of pre-flower. Pictured here is the thick stalk; the oldest of the two remaining clones is next to the Strawberry Kush. The second oldest is in the green house.
Days are getting shorter, that is why she's gone into flower. Roughly sunrise is 6:45 and sunset is 8:30. All three plants, the mother and the two clones are flowering. The mother is growing so much I predict at least an ounce.
Telling the story of Strawberry Kush in pictures. The first picture shows from a distance. Look up close and see that there is really two plants, the mother and the daughter. Get even closer and see the whole plant. Then the last three pictures show the buds.
Cloned very well before flower. Went into flower in the middle of the summer. Had to harvest because of rain making the heavy buds wilt. Cutting this down it fell on the clone and had to harvest 2/3 of that plant as well.
