BucketBrigade Exactly 1 week from initially seeding in rockwool. Bubbling strongand seems to be healthy. I've already added some water to keep the level steady until roots grow past the rockwool cube. Not sure how accurate the temps are as I have yet to purchase anything to take temps nor anything to measure PPM. Also, PPH is based on chemical test kit. Noticed the newest leaves seem to have yellowish veins. Assuming a lack of nitrogen. I leveled up the nutes to 5ml / gallon as I still had them at 1/4 from just getting started. I'll re-evaluate in a few days.

The GH label states that the nutrient solition should be changed weekly. That seems excessive. How can one tell that it's time to change the solution or just add to it?

Hi mate, If you want to do things right and achieve the best results, you should change out your nute mixture every week. Wait a couple weeks after you introduce the plants into the system before you change it out the first time. You should check the pH level every day, that is the most important factor in hydro. It needs to be between 5.2 and 6.3, and shouldn't vary more than 0.5 in 12 hours- you don't want to shock your plants with a quick change. Also, if you don't have a ppm meter your pH can help you determine how much nutes to use (your babies are ready for a low concentration nute mixture when the second node appears). If the pH is rising, your plants are using up nutes and you should add a higher concentration. If the pH is dropping, your plant is using more water than nutes and you should add a lower concentration or just water. So all in all, it’s the plants that will tell you what you need. Although being in hydro, when things go wrong it’s already too late. So take your time and regular checks on your girls. Slow and steady wins the cultivation process. All just advice at the end of the day, free to do as you wish. Just giving you some knowledge from my past experiences. Hope this helps. FlavoursUk 👌

BucketBrigade Day 14: I added Armor Si to the solution thinking that it can help her grow fast and strong. A few leaves seem to be slightly curled. Wondering if I need to worry... Day 13: Even though I thought I destroyed her 2 roots in raising her higher, somehow 4 are in it's place. One day later! Seems to have added an inch in height as well. Day 12: I realized yesterday that I set the growcube at the bottom of the basket and it was way too low. In another day, the plant will be touching the walls of the planter. So I raised it. I pulled the grow cube up, added clay pebbles and water to the nutes. The problem is that I broke some roots that were attached to the basket. I hope she survives... Day 8: The third pair of leaves are growing and the second pair continue to grow in size. I just bumped the nutes ratio to agressive growth quantities. The veins seem a little yellow. Not sure if that's normal for this strain. I hope the added nutes help get the plant green. If anyone has some input, I'd be thrilled to hear back.

BucketBrigade May 5: 2 days have passed and she grew 3 inches. She seems to be speeding up. I added a little acid to lower the ph for the 1st time in a long time. I think it may have gotten hot in the basement yesterday since a few of the leaves curled up. I added a fan to cool things down. I also added about 3 cups of water. In addition, a few leaves have a blade or 2 that look droopy. Wondering if it's time to add some nutrients. Have a look at the photo above and let me know what you think. May 3: Another inch another day. She's my 1st, Do I top her? Do I FIM her? Shall I let her be? She has 4 nodes and growing the 5th. I should just let her grow normally, right? BTW, I'm loving the her scent! May 2: She's growing like a weed! 2 days in a row and an inch each day! I just raised my LED about a foot higher. I'm worried it's getting too close and limiting her height. If tomorrow she grows less than an inch, I'll lower it back to the previous level. April 30: Today I've done nothing but test the PH and leave her alone. grew half an inch since yesterday and the leaves are significantly larger. Yesterday I could smell her for the 1st time. Today it was noticably stronger. Not sure what that means, hopefully a good sign. Week 3. I think she's happy after breaking a few roots while I tried to fix a planting mistake where she was sitting way too low in the basket. I added more expanded clay beneath her as well. I also added Armor Si for strength. It caused a big increase in the PH which require some adjusting to get back right. I also brought the nutes up to aggressive vegitation levels. I had hydroponic Kale growing next to her that got to be very large and started creating a shadow. Solved that by making a good batch of delicious kale chips which means I chopped most of the kale plant and so Mary now has her space. I'm a little worried she is a little too close the the LED light. Her growth segments are starting to look a little crowded. Also, I've decided to not train her at all. It's my 1st attempt and I think it may be worthwhile to just let her grow naturally and learn about Tangerine Dream auto flowers. Finally, I noticed that she has a huge growth spurt early in the day after her time in total darkness that slows a lot as the day wears on. So I've added another hour of darkness to let her sleep. 4 hours of sleep and after only one day, she seems happier and I believe has actually grown even more than usual. 😊

I'm in week 3 and she's starting to smell. Today I walked in and the smell was unmistakable and ramping up from just a few days ago. What does this mean? Does it indicate some kind of change in the plant I need to be aware of? Do I need to take care of anything differently?

Hi, As its an auto they flip to flower by themselves, so in the very early stages depending on the strain you can sometimes get a mild cannabis smell, but you know its the plants getting ready to produce some pre flowers then to be nice big buds. Looking at your stats everything looks healthy and on the right track so it couldn't be anything else. If you're worried about the smell have a look into getting a carbon filter. There are also odour gels you can get to control the smell from your local hydroponics shop, or online. Hope this helps

BucketBrigade It's been 10 days since I last posted due to travel. I was stunned to see how much she grew! Just slightly under 3 feet tall! She was 13" just before I left! Her trunk is 1/2 inch thich for at least 2 of those feet! I think she has a little bit of light burn as she grew within 6 inches of the LED. So I just raised the COB LED. SInce this was my 1st grow, I decided to let her grow natural as she pleases. I now wish I would have FIM's her at 4 or 5 nodes. I certainly will next time. She is starting to flower as the white threads appear all over the plant. Some discussion points: 1. I was thinking some minor defoilation are in order, but I'm not sure it's safe at this stage with her starting flowering...news flash, I took 4 fan leaves pictured above and it let alot of light back into the plant. So I'm taking it slowly to see the impact.😃 2. Is this height and size normal for tangerine dream auto? Most others I find onlline seem very small. 3. Should I wait a little longer with the change to flowering nutes? Any thoughts and recommendations greatly apprecaited.

BucketBrigade So today starts 6 weeks and the appearance of fine white hairs I believve signifies we have started flowering. I have changed the nutes and I'm using them in the GH recommended flowering ratio. I'm a little worried that I might have been sent the wrong seeds and this might not be Tangerine Dream since this plant has grown so large. But hopefully she is just a very healthy plant. I'm also wondering if it's too late to trim the top most main trunk to eliminate what would become the highest cola. I've also decided to try and not raise the LED lighting for a while and see if the topmost stops growing and the rest of the plant will catch up and the rest of the plant seems to be adjusting itself to gain access to light and catch up overall. Please comment with any thoughts and suggestions. I'm not too early with the flowering nutes, correct?

BucketBrigade Start of Week 7 status update (May 27): She seems to really like 1/2 strength nutes. She keeps growing and I won't be able to raise the lighting much higher. I may be forced to train her while flowering soon if she doesn't stop. I keep kicking myself for cutting those 4 fan leaves as she seems to really take care of herself. If I end up with a smaller strain next time, I like the no-training method as I believe she is pretty prolific on her own. Size: I had concerns that I might have gotten the wrong seeds as I see no one with Tangerine Dream this tall and large (50" tall and 40" wide and still growing). The vendor assures me this is normal for a thriving plant. I hope so. May 28, she seems to have stopped growing today! Scent: The scent intensity has dropped and changed. It's no longer as pungent as it once was. Cigar but nicer is the best way to describe it. Is that ok? Clones: I know it's crazy to clone at this stage, but I trimmed a few branches that were not getting any light or growing so I figured I might as well. This is my 1st plant and a major learning experience, right? Curing: I know I have quite some time to harvest, but I have been researching drying and curing. I'm considering attempting 3 methods. Traditional slow and dehydration and then into the mason jar and finally water curing. I want to try all three and compare the differences. If I do, I plan on reporting back to the community. Advice: If you have any, please comment. I'm looking for all the help I can get! 😊

BucketBrigade Started the third week of flowering. Somehow, she is still growing. About to hit 60"...5 feet tall! I have not added or changed the nutes since siphoning off half the liquid and adding water. And I've been adding water ever since. I am refusing to raise the light, and she keeps getting closer. Somehow, she seems to be able to absorb much more light than ever before. Her scent is also still cigar like but pleasant. Nothing pungent. I hope that's ok. I only worries are if those colas will fill in and if I need to add any nutes. Based on the previous over feeding, I am fearful of adding any. Finally, should I prune those very low but flowering branches? Will eliminating those encourage more flowing above?

in trying to wrap my head around all the data in gathering on my dwc bucket. Do you take measurements each day? and when you do, do you measure, ph top off water, fill, bubble, re measure? I'm not sure if it is because I only run 1.5 gal in my reservoir or what but I've yet to have to top it off, however I am running a 7 day reservoir cycle.
BucketBrigade
BucketBrigade commented8y ago
@@MichaelMo, I measure the PH each day. However, your plants are still at the seedling stage and won't require much right now. If I would have not adjusted my plant's height, I have not had to adjust the PH or add water at all. My plant is just getting to the point where it will become important to check daily. Also, A large bucket does provide more stable nutrient solution since the liquid or nutrient levels don't change so rapidly. I grow Kale in a 2 gal bucket. Once it gets about this size, I'm adding water every 2 days and then as it gets larger, up to 2 cups per day! I add the water 1st, and then check the PH after letting the plant sit for 10 mins or so before measuring the PH to make sure the new water has mixed well with the existing and the PH level has stabilized. I leave the bubbles on 24 hours a day. In addition to splashing and adding oxygen, it helps mix the liquids rapidly. If you need to add water, add it 1st and then measure PH. Also, my tap water is very basic, so I have another 5 gal bucket that I have tap water added where I let it sit for a few days to eliminate the chlorine and I also pre-adjust to eliminate the high base. This makes sure I have de-clorinated water that doesn't raise the PH always ready and available and at the same temp since it's in the same room.

your plant is looking healthy! how is armor si working for you? I haven't try it but I use hydroguard by botanicare. really good. it helped me get rid of pythium after I got infected with root rot.
BucketBrigade
BucketBrigade commented8y ago
@Lou_Grows, Thank you!. I've been using the armor si for a little over a week now. I honestly can't tell. However, I'm also growing Basil, Cilantro and Kale to which I've added the Armor SI to as well. I saw a video where someone added it to their basil and it made a big difference in how the plant carried itself and grew. One plant had it and the other didn't. The difference was very substantial in how it held itself up. So hopefully the same for the girl. I wish I was growing a second without it so I could see the difference. The one downside is it's a strong base. It took much more acid to get the water into the proper PH level.

looking good! cant wait to see how it goes for ya. i started my autos out at about that level of hydroton as well, and when they grew, i added more, it definitely has helped them be more stable. i like how you have put the airline down through the bucket lid inside....please let me know how that plays out through the grow and if any roots begin to grow and end up crimping the line at all, that would be my only concern. since i abused my autos, your plant on week 3 is actually about the size my cash crop was on week 5.
BucketBrigade
BucketBrigade commented8y ago
@iDontEvenGrow, Thanks so much for the encouraging words! So far, I have (what I think are a lot of roots) and so far no air tube crimping. I figured I either needed to drill a hole for the air tube or simply place it under the lid which made it sit unevenly, but this seemed like the most practical path forward.

Hey @BucketBrigade. here checking your diary. looking good. how big is your reservoir?
BucketBrigade
BucketBrigade commented8y ago
@Lou_Grows, It's a 5 gal black bucket. I'm actually considering how to make it 10 gals as I travel alot and I worry if I'm out for a week, how can I keep the liquid within PH while I'm away and the water level in the right range. Actually considering joining 2 5 gal buckets to make sure it has plenty of reserve or moving to a 10 gal tote with a single growpot on the lid.
