not a criticism of the meme, as it's kinda true, but to be fair to GD, gotm is not subjective. They just have to look for cheats, and it's finalized. Contests for diaries, pictures, vidoes etc all require subjective judgement by a person or a group of people and that takes more time by comparison. Also, have to do due diligence to weed out cheats and bad actors for those contests too, which also takes more time by comparison. It's not just comparing cpuid or IP addresses, which can be a simple SQL query that you save and repeatedly use with "1-click" each month... Got any input from sponsors to consider, too, which may or may not be punctual. the differences are mostly mechanical... the clockwork is different. One is a mostly automated process with minimal effort to maintain.
