Any negatives to mulching?

Hi Green peepz,
Just a quick one from my side. Are there any reasons not to mulch? It clearly helps to keep the soil from drying out but what are the negatives?

Insects can make home in there, un need that you pots don’t dry out? U can check only like a week?
If not is useless, better leave the soil traspirate, no house for insects, and no overwatering problems

Did some digging and it seems MangoDudu is right, I will remove any mulching I currently have. The risk of my babies being Insect food is to high.

18 weeks, but I'm not sure she's ready.The plant is 18wks old. Leaves are getting yellow, some buds are so fat the branches bend under the weight.
I'm worried some pistons are still white and I can still see some clear trichoms, but she's 3 weeks after the recommended date of harvesting.
