Re-using old soil?

Can you re-use Coast of Maine Stonington blend? I've read that if you leave the root ball in and give it three months, and add some plant food as well, that the soil will use the former roots as a carbohydrate source and the soil can be re-used eventually. Is this true?

Rubbish! Total BS. Apart from having to add bulk fertilizer to replenish the nutrients, the main problem with reusing old soil is that there is a much higher risk of disease or plant pest building up to dangerous (for your plant) levels. Just buy new soil, it generally is the cheapest part of the entire grow anyhow. Besides, the amount of nutrients you need to add to make it suitable for a whole new grow and flowering cycle will cost more than buying fresh, nutrient rich soil. Hope this helps,......... Hi all, Thank you for the feedback! My plan was to take the soil I'm using now, add in some kelp meal, alfafa meal, worm castings, and some of their organic raised bed mix and just let it sit for about 2-3 months (mixing weekly of course). I know that it's feasible, and that there are some risks involved, but as I'm growing indoors in a relatively closed environment, I'm not entirely too worried about pests. As for disease, that's a risk that I think is worth the trouble, especially given the price of a new bag of super soil. I'll do both, just to see the feasibility moving forward, and if I lose a plant, I can live with that. I couldn't really find any good articles on the subject (or even message boards), but I found plenty of YouTube videos, and if there is one thing I know in this world, it is that everyone on YouTube is a certified expert (stop laughing!). Thanks for chiming in, and as always I appreciate the feedback! Also, how is there not a red-eyed emoji!?!?!?

Go with organoman. It's not ideal to re use as he said. You will run into more issues then it's worth. If you want to re use a media look into coco as u can get a few grows out of that, but that can be a pain to prepare again after a grow. Or look into hydroponics using just clay balls as they are fairly easy to use again.

Yes it is true you can re-use but definitely wait that period. I have never done it myself because I dont want to run the risk of an issue. But I'm a bit of a perfectionist 🤷‍♂️😂 Hope this helps 🙂
