I usually pull the first node and sometimes the second. They never seem to grow as well as others above it

I too always remove the lowest two branches at node one as they never grow that well. A plant can not "focus" energy. All energy is used equally wherever there is growth occurring. All energy is made by the leaves and it can not be stored anywhere or be redirected anywhere. Removing leaves does not mean there is extra energy to "send" somewhere else. Removal of plant parts results in less energy, as less leaves = less energy being made. Removal of plant parts results in only the remaining parts continuing to grow, but there will be no extra energy to "focus" on this growth, just that there are no other options for the energy to be used elsewhere.

Hey Growmie, Removing lower leaves and branches can make the plant focus its energy on the top part, where the bigger buds are being produced. By carefully trimming unnecessary branches and/or leaves we avoid wasting our plant’s energy, this energy can then be redirected to the development of the main buds, resulting in bigger and denser flowers. You should start pruning by removing a couple of leaves a day or for better results every 2 to 3 days, starting when your plant is 3 weeks old up until the pre-flowering stage.

Those 2 smaller leaves will eventually shrivel up and fall off. I would leave this plant alone.
